The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council has called on the Taiwanese public and visionary figures from all sectors to resolutely oppose the Lai Ching-te administration's actions of pandering to the US at the expense of Taiwan's interests.
In response to a journalist's question regarding recent remarks by the US Commerce Secretary, the spokesperson noted that during US-Taiwan tariff negotiations, the US is seeking over $300 billion in Taiwanese investments and assistance in training semiconductor workers, with the ultimate goal of relocating Taiwan's entire semiconductor supply chain to the US. Online critics in Taiwan have condemned the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities as "hopeless," while public opinion highlights that, combined with Lai Ching-te's pledged $40 billion in arms purchases, Taiwan's accumulated wealth over three generations is being squandered.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, stated that the Lai Ching-te administration, in its pursuit of "relying on external forces for independence," has shown no bottom line in its concessions to the US. In tariff negotiations, it has "surrendered before even negotiating" and "offered more than demanded," repeatedly deceiving the public. In the industrial sector, it has allowed the US to take whatever it wants, willingly handing over Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) and letting it drain Taiwan's competitive industries.
Previously, TSM was forced to announce an additional $100 billion investment in the US, sparking panic among local industries and public outrage. If the proposed $300 billion investment materializes, it will inevitably deal a severe blow to Taiwan's economy, further weakening its growth momentum and autonomy. The Taiwan Affairs Office expressed grave concern over these developments and urged the Taiwanese public and forward-thinking individuals to unite and take action to oppose the Lai Ching-te administration's pro-US actions and safeguard their own interests.
