Pentagon Endorses Palantir's Maven System; Wedbush Reiterates Bullish Outlook with 43% Upside Potential

Investment bank Wedbush noted that Palantir Technologies Inc.'s Maven artificial intelligence super system has received designation as a "formal program of record" from the U.S. Department of Defense, further solidifying the company's position as a key supplier to the U.S. military. Wedbush reaffirmed its "outperform" rating on Palantir and set a price target of $230, representing nearly 43% upside from Monday's closing price of $160.84.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg stated in a letter to Pentagon leadership that Palantir's Maven AI system will become a formal program of record, a move that ensures the long-term use of Palantir's targeting technology across the U.S. military. In the letter dated March 9 and addressed to senior Pentagon leaders and U.S. military commanders, Feinberg indicated that embedding Palantir's Maven system will provide warfighters with "the latest tools required to detect, deter, and counter adversaries across all domains." The decision is expected to take effect before the end of the current fiscal year, which concludes in September.

Maven is a command-and-control software platform designed to analyze battlefield data and identify targets. The system rapidly processes vast amounts of information from satellites, drones, radar, sensors, and intelligence reports, utilizing artificial intelligence to automatically detect potential threats or targets such as enemy military vehicles, structures, and weapon depots. It is already a primary AI operating system for the U.S. military.

Feinberg emphasized that designating Maven as a formal program of record will streamline its adoption across military branches and provide stable, long-term funding. This represents a significant victory for Palantir, which has secured an increasing number of contracts with the U.S. government, including a deal announced last summer with the U.S. Army valued at up to $10 billion. These contracts have contributed to a doubling of the company's stock price over the past year, bringing its market capitalization to nearly $360 billion.

Wedbush analysts, led by Dan Ives, stated in an investor report, "This comes less than a year after Palantir won the Maven contract in May 2025, a $1.3 billion award aimed at assisting the Department of Defense with data fusion and target identification—a capability growing increasingly critical given the current geopolitical landscape."

Ives added, "The formal program of record status for Palantir's Maven system will simplify collaboration with various military services while securing long-term funding for the company. Within the next 30 days, oversight responsibilities for Maven will transition to the Pentagon's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office, with subsequent contracts managed by the U.S. Army."

He further noted, "We maintain our view that Palantir is positioned to secure additional contracts at the federal level. Its software value proposition aligns perfectly with the U.S. government's needs to navigate complex geopolitical environments. Through deep involvement in high-priority Defense Department projects and contracts, the company is well-positioned to capture a larger share of the Pentagon's IT budget."
