Eli Lilly has released positive Phase 1b clinical data for its investigational gene-editing therapy, VERVE-102. The treatment utilizes a one-time base editing approach, resulting in a reduction of up to 62% in patients' low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels and an 88% decrease in PCSK9 protein levels. The therapeutic effects remained stable throughout the follow-up period. Most significantly, no treatment-related serious adverse events were observed. Eli Lilly stated that it plans to initiate Phase 2 clinical trials within this year. If subsequent studies are successful, this therapy could offer a novel "one-shot, long-lasting" option for patients with conditions such as familial hypercholesterolemia.
