A new service enhancing support for urban delivery riders has been launched. On April 17, designated as "City Rider Day" by Taobao Quick Purchase, the Jing'an Temple commercial district in Shanghai, in collaboration with Taobao Quick Purchase, announced the official launch of the "CP Jing'an Relay Delivery - All-Area Friendly Project." This initiative is a multi-party effort to smooth out the "most challenging 100 meters" for food delivery and jointly build a rider-friendly community. The Jing'an Temple commercial district station is Shanghai's first 24-hour outdoor worker station within a commercial area, fully equipped with amenities such as water dispensers, microwaves, charging ports, and emergency supplies, providing a one-stop service for delivery riders and other outdoor laborers to rest, hydrate, heat meals, and charge their phones. With the activation of the "Delivery Relay Station" at this site, the work and life support for city riders has been further enhanced. The new "Delivery Relay" model is a service pioneered by Taobao Quick Purchase for locations like shopping malls, hospital complexes, and large residential areas where picking up and delivering orders is particularly difficult. This model utilizes segmented cooperation and dedicated personnel for pickup and delivery. Through product upgrades, standardized management, and technology-driven processes, it addresses issues such as peak-time queues, elevator congestion, parking difficulties, and property management pressure at challenging locations, making order fulfillment more time-efficient and less labor-intensive for riders while providing a faster and better experience for users. The Jing'an Temple area is dense with restaurants, has a high volume of orders, and experiences heavy foot traffic. During peak hours, riders, merchants, and the mall itself face significant pressure. The "Relay Station," located in the core area of the district, transforms the traditional "one-rider-handles-all" approach into an assembly-line operation. The "most challenging 100 meters" are now handled in segments: after a user places an order, a dedicated "first-leg rider" within the mall picks up the order directly from the merchant and brings it to the relay station. At the station, dedicated staff manage centralized storage, organized categorization, and orderly handover. Subsequently, a "second-leg rider" takes over the relay, delivering the order to office buildings or residential users. The relay station is equipped with standardized pickup racks, organized by floor, category (such as coffee/tea, full meals, supermarket retail), etc. "Before, we faced pressure from tight schedules and difficult parking. Now, arriving at the station means immediate pickup, with no more worries about running up and down or waiting in congestion for orders," said Li Jiale, a Taobao Quick Purchase rider working in the Jing'an Temple area. It is understood that during the pilot phase of the CP Jing'an delivery relay, rider efficiency improved by an average of 10 minutes per order. The daily number of orders handled during pilot hours also increased from 150 to 650. The effective improvement in delivery service efficiency and traffic flow has been widely welcomed by riders, merchants, property managers, and users. For merchants, the increase in delivery efficiency leads to smoother coordination between meal preparation and order pickup, more stable table turnover and order fulfillment rhythms, and a significant enhancement in order handling capacity for some catering establishments, creating a virtuous cycle of "efficiency gains leading to order growth leading to improved operations." For the shopping mall, the new model results in smoother management, an optimized environment, and a better consumer experience: not only is the operational pressure on elevators during peak hours effectively alleviated, but conflicts between delivery riders and merchants arising from order催促 or incorrect orders are also reduced, achieving a balance between efficiency and order. At the launch event, the Party Working Committee of Jing'an Temple Sub-district and the Party Committee of Taobao Quick Purchase held a signing ceremony for party-building cooperation. Both parties stated they would further solidify the foundation for building a new employment group-friendly commercial district through resource complementarity and two-way interaction. "From rider stations, to delivery relays, and now to joint service and coordination, we hope that through multi-party collaboration, every delivery can be more efficient, safer, and more secure, making the rider experience warmer and the environment more orderly, achieving a mutual positive dynamic between riders and the city," said Sun Liya, Vice Chairwoman of the Taobao Quick Purchase Labor Union and Vice President. On the same day, Taobao Quick Purchase also announced this year's "517 City Rider Festival" caravan tour plan. Starting from the Jing'an Temple commercial district, the caravan will begin its national tour from Shanghai. Simultaneously, the delivery relay model will be replicated and promoted to more difficult pickup and delivery points.
