Trump Announces Two-Year Zero Tariffs On Imported Generics From Aug. 1, 2026; Then 100% And 200% Hikes

MT Newswires Live07:22

President Trump said all generic drugs imported into the United States will have zero tariffs for two years from Aug. 1, 2026. Thereafter tariffs will be raised to 100% for one year and then to 200% thereafter; the move is aimed at repatriating generic drug production and penalizing firms that fail to establish domestic production facilities and equipment within the required timeframe. Existing tariff and trade policies for patented, brand and innovative drugs will remain unchanged.

U.S. construction of pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity is proceeding at an unprecedented scale nationwide, he said.
