Following the acquisition of the documentary "Melania," Amazon is currently exploring the revival of the reality television program "The Apprentice." The show originally featured Donald Trump, the current President of the United States, as its star, which significantly boosted his national profile.
According to informed sources, Amazon executives have internally discussed the possibility of inviting a figure with extremely close ties to President Trump to host the reboot, specifically his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
These discussions are still in the preliminary stages, and Amazon has not yet made contact with the Trump family. Should the project move forward, the program would be broadcast on Amazon's Prime Video service.
Trump previously hosted the show, where contestants competed for an opportunity to work for the businessman. The series aired for 14 seasons on NBC. Amazon gained access to the show's library of past episodes when it acquired the MGM film studio in 2022.
A spokesperson for Amazon stated, "Since acquiring MGM, we have held preliminary internal discussions about the future of 'The Apprentice' intellectual property." The spokesperson added that the show is not currently in active development and no potential host has been finalized.
Amazon's exploration of reviving the series, potentially with the former president's son as host, highlights the company's ongoing efforts to identify programming that appeals to the President and his base of conservative supporters. In some instances, the First Family has already benefited from such initiatives.
According to some individuals familiar with the matter, Mike Hopkins, head of Amazon MGM Studios, along with other Amazon executives, began internal discussions about reviving the show early last year, coinciding with Trump's inauguration for his second term.
