On Friday, Crown Castle (ASX: CCI) surged more than 11%, while American Tower (ASX: AMT) rose over 7%.
On the news front, on October 8, SpaceX agreed to acquire nationwide low-band spectrum for approximately $8 billion, aimed at improving satellite mobile communication services; the relevant spectrum can enhance signal penetration capability, and ground network expansion may still drive demand for communication tower construction.
This deal has led outsiders to expect that SpaceX may in the future lease spare space on existing communication base stations to support its ambition of becoming a major U.S. wireless carrier.
It is known that Crown Castle owns, operates, and leases approximately 40,000 cellular communication towers in the United States, providing infrastructure for wireless connectivity; the SpaceX spectrum deal has increased the relevance between its ground network construction and tower leasing.
