US President Donald Trump said his government will talk with China "probably over the next 24 hours," boosting chances of a stay on the 10% tariff he levied against the world's second-largest economy, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.
The tariff against China is set to take effect hours after he delayed the tariff implementation against Canada and Mexico, the report said.
The development comes after Trump said over the weekend tariffs against China will go live at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, Bloomberg said.
"If we can't make a deal with China, then the tariffs will be very, very substantial," Bloomberg quoted Trump as saying.
Trump's talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping may include fentanyl "that is killing tens of thousands of Americans every single year," the report said, citing White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt's remarks over Fox News.
