1004 GMT - Bitcoin edges higher on optimism over President Trump's recent moves to support the cryptocurrency sector, Zaye Capital Markets analyst Naeem Aslam says in a note. Trump's plans for a strategic crypto reserve and the appointment of crypto advocate Paul Atkins to head the Securities and Exchange Commission has bolstered sentiment, he says. However, bitcoin's outlook this quarter hinges on whether the Trump administration follows through on its crypto-friendly promises, he says. "Lack of action, particularly within the first 100 days, could lead to a pullback in bitcoin's price." U.S. policy developments are likely to have significant implications for bitcoin in the near term, he says. Bitcoin rises 1.2% to $88,540, according to LSEG. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
