U.S. Stocks Plunge on Trump Tariffs -- Market Talk

1606 ET - U.S. stocks dive on worries the President Trump's tariff plan will hurt global economic growth as trading partners get set to fight back. Information technology, consumer discretionary and energy sectors all drop around 5%, while consumer staples is the only sector to end with a sizable gain. Apple loses 9.3%, Amazon drops 9% and Nvidia falls 7.8%, with all members of the Magnificent 7 lower. The dollar and Treasury yields drop to the lowest levels of the year with oil and gold declining as well. DJIA drops 1679 points, or 4%, to 40545, the S&P 500 sinks 4.8% to 5396 and the Nasdaq dives 6% to 16550. (patrick.sullivan@wsj.com)
