Tariffs Impact on U.S. Inflation Likely Transitory -- Market Talk

Dow Jones06-20

0430 GMT - The impact of tariffs on U.S. inflation will be transitory and the FOMC will resume cutting rates in September, says Brian Martin, head of G3 economics at ANZ. Inflation uncertainty around tariffs remains high, reflected in a divergence of opinion on the FOMC over the path for fed funds this year, he notes. Still, the U.S. economy will slow further and he expects that around 40% of announced tariff hikes will be absorbed outside of the consumer, Martin says. (james.glynn@wsj.com; @JamesGlynnWSJ)
