Bank of England Can Cut Rates This Year as Joblessness Rises -- Market Talk
Dow Jones06-19
1146 GMT - The Bank of England will be able to cut interest rates ahead as the labor market loosens, Deutsche Bank's Sanjay Raja writes in a note to investors after the central bank stood pat on borrowing rates, noting a backdrop of global unpredictability. The decision was expected, but the BOE, despite the turmoil emanating from the U.S., the Middle East and elsewhere, can look to ease its policy ahead, Raja says, pointing to a likely rise in joblessness ahead. That should allow the bank to cuts rates to 3.5% by year-end, Raja says. (joshua.kirby@wsj.com; @joshualeokirby)
