The Trump administration has lifted export license requirements for US chip design software sales to China, signaling progress in a broader trade agreement between Washington and Beijing, Bloomberg News reported Thursday.
The US Commerce Department informed major semiconductor design software providers that restrictions are no longer in effect, according to the report. Siemens has resumed full access for Chinese clients, while Synopsys and Cadence are restarting services.
The move follows a US pledge to ease tech restrictions in exchange for China's expedited critical mineral exports, Bloomberg wrote.
