Shares of Twist Bioscience gained after Anthropic said it chose the company as one of its independent evaluators to test if Claude can help accelerate parts of the drug design process.
The stock climbed 17% to $136.41 on Wednesday, on track for its highest close since 2021. The stock has more than quadrupled year to date.
Anthropic said it is using Twist's help to determine whether its Claude artificial-intelligence model can design minibinders--small proteins designed to latch onto a target protein--for multiple protein targets.
The AI company conducted a multi-arm protein design campaign against 15 targets. Twist Bioscience and Adaptyv Bio, another evaluator checking Claude's work, independently produced and tested Claude's designs in the lab. They found that, of the 15 targets Anthropic designed against, Claude successfully designed binders against 14 of them.
