Amazon (AMZN) is planning to expand its same-day fulfillment network to more than 1,000 facilities by 2031 from about 85 currently, Business Insider reported Wednesday, citing internal planning documents it reviewed.

Codenamed Project Mercury, the initiative aims to place same-day fulfillment centers within a 10-mile radius of 80% of US Prime subscribers, the report said.

Amazon has budgeted $6.8 billion for US same-day capacity in 2026 and 2027, while an internal review estimated the project could generate $7.10 billion in economic value over 10 years, the report added.

Amazon did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
