Archer Aviation said its all-electric Midnight air taxi completed several days of piloted flights in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The multi-city journey began in Salinas, Calif., before traveling to progressively larger cities with more complex airspace, Archer Aviation said Monday. The flights included multiple trips around the San Francisco Bay, taking off and landing at Oakland International Airport.
The purpose of the flights was in part to showcase Midnight's ability to operate in complex, urban airspace. The flights also gave communities across the Bay Area an opportunity to see the benefits of electric air taxis firsthand, the company added.
Air taxis produce low noise and little operating emissions, and they additionally offer the ability to skip over crowded highways, Archer Aviation said. The company added that its goal is to transform urban travel, replacing up to 90-minute commutes by car with all-electric flights.
