On October 25, President Donald J. Trump said on X that the United States remains committed to strengthening ties with Libya and supporting the unification of the country and its institutions, while insisting that Libya cannot remain a corridor for illegal migration.
He described the U.S.-Libya relationship as a strong, enduring counterterrorism partnership built on their “historic success in defeating ISIS in Libya together,” and expressed respect for the sacrifices made by Libyans in the fight against ISIS. “Libya cannot remain a corridor for illegal migration, and this must end now,” he wrote.
Trump added: “The United States remains firmly committed to strengthening our bilateral relationship, supporting the long-awaited unification of Libya and Libya’s institutions, and standing with the Libyan people as they transition toward successful national elections.” He said Libyans have been victims of terrorism and foreign meddling for years and urged them to unite, reclaim their sovereignty, and pursue the peaceful and prosperous future they deserve.
