Schneider National's Q3 Mixed as Intermodal Strength Offsets Weakness, UBS Says

Schneider National's (SNDR) Q3 results were "mixed," with intermodal strength offset by weaker truckload profitability and higher logistics costs, UBS Securities said in a report Friday.

The company reported earnings of $0.29 per share, missing the FactSet $0.30 per share consensus and matching the firm's estimate. Intermodal yield rose 3% from a year earlier, UBS said, topping its 2% estimate, while intermodal earnings before interest and taxes came in $3.4 million above the UBS' model.

Truckload EBIT of $43.7 million was $2 million below the firm's estimate despite a $9 million boost from higher year-over-year gains on sale. Schneider's logistics business also posted a $12 million sequential decline in EBIT, due in part to an accident claim, the report said.

Network truckload performance improved, with revenue per truck per week up 21% on higher pricing and utilization. Schneider also expects rising truckload rates in 2027 against what the firm described as a "fragile backdrop," according to the report.

UBS called Schneider's move to Norfolk Southern as its primary Eastern rail partner a "strategic win," saying the agreement could support additional intermodal growth.

UBS maintained a neutral rating on Schneider National, and cut its price target to $30 from $31.
