Over the years, Tim Cook has done something many other corporate leaders have avoided: he built a personal relationship with Donald Trump. Cook's biggest victory came in 2019 when Apple faced the prospect of tariffs on all goods imported from China. Cook personally lobbied Trump, explaining how the tariffs would raise iPhone prices and benefit foreign competitors like Samsung. Just days later, Trump announced a scaled-back tariff plan, granting exemptions for a range of electronic products, including iPhones.
