U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday the United States doesn't give Nvidia's NVDA.O advanced AI chip, known as the Blackwell, "to other people," adding that he meets with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang regularly.

"The new Blackwell that just came out, it's 10 years ahead of every other chip," Trump told reporters, adding, "But no, we don't give that chip to other people."

The comments, in response to reporters' questions aboard Air Force One, suggest the Trump administration may not be poised to freely allow shipments of the prized chip overseas.

Traders are positioning for a roughly 8% swing in the share price, higher or lower, after earnings and through Friday, according to Cboe Global Markets data. The report is also likely to reverberate through the market.

“Nvidia earnings are on tap later and we could see a bit of slack water until then–if they can beat and raise and maybe see improved margins that could calm some nerves,” wrote Neil Wilson, a strategist at Saxo Markets.

Nvidia stock was gaining early on Wednesday. The chip maker is looking to snap a streak of losses ahead of its earnings report after the market closes.

The shares were up 2% at $184.59 in premarket trading. They have fallen 6.4% over the past five trading sessions amid a wider selloff in companies exposed to the artificial-intelligence trade.
