Capital on the Move: Tech Takes a Breather

"QQQ or SPY?"

A weaker-than-expected June payroll report accelerated the rotation out of AI and semiconductor stocks, pushing the Nasdaq 100 lower while the Dow rallied to fresh highs. Investors shifted toward defensive sectors such as healthcare, utilities, and financials as expectations for Fed rate cuts increased.

🚦QQQ at a Crossroads

For traders, $Invesco QQQ(QQQ)$ remains a key way to track the performance of technology and AI leaders, making it more sensitive to selling pressure in growth stocks. Meanwhile, $SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust(SPY)$ provides broader exposure to the U.S. market, benefiting from strength in value and defensive sectors when market leadership rotates.

🕯️ Candles Tell the Story

While the long-term AI investment story remains intact, recent price action shows investors are broadening their exposure rather than concentrating solely on technology. Will this rotation continue, or do you see the recent pullback as a buying opportunity for AI and semiconductor stocks?

Markets Rotate: Defend or Buy the Tech Dip?
The Nasdaq 100 fell 1.73% while the Dow surged nearly 590 points to a record high, after June nonfarm payrolls added only 57,000 jobs — a sharp miss that triggered a mass rotation out of AI capex beneficiaries and into Dow value stocks. Semiconductors, optical networking names, and Meta were all sold off, with defensive assets and rate-cut beneficiaries emerging as new destinations. Following yesterday's hardware-to-software shift, today's rotation escalated into a full AI capex-to-value pivot — will you follow this move?

I already rotated part into XLV and XLF, SPY feels cleaner here. QQQ can bounce, but defensives still look sturdier no?
