$Apple(AAPL)$
Apple isn't trying to win the model-training arms race. Instead, it's methodically building ownership over the distribution layer that every AI company needs to reach consumers. This changes the investment thesis significantly. Apple can leverage its massive installed base as a high-margin revenue engine, potentially without shouldering the same crushing infrastructure costs as its peers.
The centerpiece appears to be a system called "extensions" in iOS 27. It would allow users to toggle between various AI apps—like Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, and Copilot—and plug them directly into Siri. This could turn Siri into a universal front door rather than a single-vendor gatekeeper, effectively ending the ChatGPT exclusivity of 2024 and creating an open platform. Apple wouldn't be picking winners; it would be turning Siri into an App Store for AI agents. Any major model maker could gain equal access to roughly 2.5 billion active iOS devices, provided they meet Apple's standards on privacy, safety, and payment.
Some analysts, including those at Bank of America, estimate that an AI-powered Siri could trigger a "supercycle," adding between $20 billion and $30 billion in incremental hardware and services revenue for Apple by 2030.
