$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ Noticed something interesting buried in a recent Tesla app update — the company is quietly working on letting Robotaxi rides replace loaner cars for service appointments.

From Tesla's side, loaner fleets sit idle most of the time, need their own insurance, and add logistical headaches at every service center. A Robotaxi ride costs a fraction of that to run, and Musk's long-term target for operating cost is around $0.20/mile. Not there yet, but that's the direction.

For customers, getting chauffeured to your appointment instead of driving an unfamiliar loaner sounds way less annoying.

Obviously this only works where Robotaxi actually operates — right now that's Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Miami, with Nevada just approving up to 5,000 vehicles in Clark County too. Outside those areas, you'll still get a regular loaner for now.

Small feature, but it says a lot about where Tesla's headed.
