Indexes at ATHs, but Your Stocks Aren’t Participating?

This market is psychologically tough.

You see the indexes printing all-time highs, yet many individual stocks are struggling, chopping around or simply failing to participate.

Don't get discouraged. This is an extremely difficult market, even for experienced traders. Some of the best traders I know are getting put through the wringer right now.

But there's another way to look at the lack of participation.

The glass-half-full view? The market may not have experienced its broadest phase of upside yet.

📈 Three Potential Bullish Takeaways

1️⃣ There could be more upside fuel than people realize.

If the indexes are already at all-time highs despite narrow participation, improving breadth could provide another leg higher.

2️⃣ The next major opportunity could be breadth expansion.

The biggest opportunity may not come from chasing the indexes or adding to the existing mega-cap leaders. It could come from more stocks joining the rally.

3️⃣ Former growth leaders could get another shot.

Stocks that have spent months consolidating could emerge as risk appetite improves. A cooling macro environment would help, too.

🧭 The Bigger Picture

Narrow leadership is a legitimate concern. Rising 10-year yields, war, oil and elections all create real risks. Nobody knows how this plays out, and position sizing still matters.

But I'm choosing to view the indexes at all-time highs as a potential precursor to broader participation, rather than assuming the rally has already run its course.

That doesn't guarantee a bullish outcome. Breadth needs to improve, and price action needs to confirm the thesis.

The market can be frustrating without being broken.

In this environment, I'm staying open to the possibility that the next opportunity comes from stocks that haven't participated yet.

The key is to stay disciplined long enough to recognize it when it arrives. 🚀
