Should investors buy or sell the stock on this news?\\Inv","content":"

Shopify is planning a 10-for-1 stock split. Should investors buy or sell the stock on this news?\\

Investors are hoping that Shopify stock eventually gets the love that we saw in Amazon (AMZN) and Alphabet (GOOGL) after those two announced stock splits earlier this year.

That said, the split announcements are not having the same impact as before.

For instance, stock split announcements for Tesla (TSLA) and Apple (AAPL) sent the share prices exploding higher in the summer of 2020. I’m of the opinion that Amazon would have seen its share price explode higher too, had it announced the split during a bull market, rather than in the throes of high volatility and a bear market in tech stocks.

The situation for Shopify stock is even worse.

When Amazon announced its split, the stock was 26% below its all-time high. When Shopify announced its 10-for-1 split, the stock was down 66%.

If management needs a catalyst, I don’t know if a stock split is it. I’m not discounting the psychological impact or the effect it can have on sentiment, but since it doesn’t have a fundamental impact on the company, it may very well not be enough to move the stock price in a meaningful way with the exception of a short-term bounce.

One could argue that Amazon stock rallied more than 20% in the weeks after the announcement. But it also came just days before the S&P 500 bottomed and ripped off an 11.5% gain as it rallied in nine out of 11 sessions.

Sorry for the long-winded approach, but the impact of a stock split is important in my view. It doesn’t fix anything or change the situation. It simply multiples the share count and divides the stock price. It’s arithmetic.

However, when sentiment is strong, investors gobble up this bit of “good news.” Heck, I like stock splits as much as the next trader. But in bear markets — like the one Shopify stock is in — I don’t think they have as meaningful of an impact because sentiment is so poor.

Allow me to also say that I really like Shopify stock and believe in its long-term potential.

So far though, Wall Street’s not buying it. If growth stocks rebound soon, Shopify will too. If it remains under pressure though, we could see this one retest the lows.

The stock is clinging to the 61.8% retracement of the current range after it failed to reclaim the $780 level and as the 10-week moving average remained as active resistance.

If we see a move below last week’s low that isn’t reclaimed, it opens the door back to the $500 to $511 area. The latter is the 52-week low. Below $500 and the VWAP measure anchored back to Shopify’s first week of trading is in play near $460.

For long-term investors, that’s likely a reasonable buying opportunity, provided Shopify falls that far.

On the upside, we could see a rebound back to the 10-week moving average, but until it’s reclaimed, it will remain as resistance. Above that is followed by the $775 to $780 zone.

","source":"lsy1610613172068","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Shopify Stock Alert: Buy or Sell the Stock Split News?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nShopify Stock Alert: Buy or Sell the Stock Split News?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-04-12 16:34 GMT+8 The Street\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Shopify is planning a 10-for-1 stock split. Below $500 and the VWAP measure anchored back to Shopify’s first week of trading is in play near $460.For long-term investors, that’s likely a reasonable buying opportunity, provided Shopify falls that far.On the upside, we could see a rebound back to the 10-week moving average, but until it’s reclaimed, it will remain as resistance. Above that is followed by the $775 to $780 zone.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SHOP":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2003,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9017197741,"gmtCreate":1649753427199,"gmtModify":1676534565214,"author":{"id":"3569410458745651","authorId":"3569410458745651","name":"daniu0808","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0770f0a1f8455d6631127f012d3f379b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3569410458745651","idStr":"3569410458745651"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great","listText":"Great","text":"Great","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9017197741","repostId":"1109298576","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3310,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9099864079,"gmtCreate":1643331867291,"gmtModify":1676533806116,"author":{"id":"3569410458745651","authorId":"3569410458745651","name":"daniu0808","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0770f0a1f8455d6631127f012d3f379b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3569410458745651","idStr":"3569410458745651"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Markets may be be down, but don't give up!![Anger] ","listText":"Markets may be be down, but don't give up!![Anger] ","text":"Markets may be be down, but don't give up!![Anger]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9099864079","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2222,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9001128155,"gmtCreate":1641196311857,"gmtModify":1676533581669,"author":{"id":"3569410458745651","authorId":"3569410458745651","name":"daniu0808","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0770f0a1f8455d6631127f012d3f379b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3569410458745651","idStr":"3569410458745651"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Happy new year everybody - many blessed returns!!","listText":"Happy new year everybody - many blessed returns!!","text":"Happy new year everybody - many blessed returns!!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9001128155","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1880,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":166074757,"gmtCreate":1623986797679,"gmtModify":1703825748637,"author":{"id":"3569410458745651","authorId":"3569410458745651","name":"daniu0808","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0770f0a1f8455d6631127f012d3f379b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3569410458745651","idStr":"3569410458745651"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like and comment","listText":"Like and comment","text":"Like and comment","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/166074757","repostId":"2144286417","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3369,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":186067142,"gmtCreate":1623465847886,"gmtModify":1704204400685,"author":{"id":"3569410458745651","authorId":"3569410458745651","name":"daniu0808","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0770f0a1f8455d6631127f012d3f379b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3569410458745651","idStr":"3569410458745651"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$VanEck Vectors Vietnam ETF(VNM)$??? disruption","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1109323949","media":"Reuters","summary":"Oil prices lost $3 per barrel on Thursday as worries about demand due to new pandemic restrictions i","content":"
Oil prices lost $3 per barrel on Thursday as worries about demand due to new pandemic restrictions in Europe countered supply concerns that had lifted prices a day earlier when a container ship blocked the Suez Canal, .
\n
Brent crude slid fell $2.79, or 4.3%, to $61.62 a barrel by 11:20 a.m. EDT (1520 GMT). U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell $3.20, or 5.2%, to $57.98 a barrel.
\n
“There’s a sense that the market is overdone,” said Phil Flynn, senior analyst at Price Futures Group in Chicago. “A lot (of the sell-off) seems to be technical. Before the start of the pandemic, the company set a goal of delivering more than 500,000 vehicles in the year.

Wall Street analysts expect a deliveries guidance to come in around 825,000 and 875,000 vehicles.

Here’s what else to expect:

Earnings:Consensus from 37 Wall Street analysts polled by FactSet calls for GAAP earnings of 65 cents a share, which would compare with GAAP earnings of 12 cents a share in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The analysts expect an adjusted profit of $1.04 a share, which would compare with an adjusted profit of 43 cents a share a year ago. A fourth-quarter profit would be Tesla’s sixth straight quarterly GAAP and adjusted earnings.

Estimize, a crowdsourcing platform that gathers estimates from Wall Street analysts as well as buy-side analysts, fund managers, company executives, academics and others, is expecting an adjusted profit of $1.02 a share.

Revenue:The analysts surveyed by FactSet expect sales of $10.53 billion for Tesla, up from $7.38 billion a year ago. Estimize sees revenue of $10.61 billion for the company.

Stock movement:Tesla stock greeted 2021 just about the same way it ended 2020: Scoring closing and intraday records highs. Earlier this month, the stock went on its longest-everwinning run.

Tesla shares are up 635% in the past 12 months, compared with gains around 16% for the S&P 500 indexSPX,-0.30%in the same period.

What else to expect:Full-year results will provide the clearest yet picture of the coronavirus pandemic impact on the company.

Besides an official 2021 sales guidance, Wall Street is looking for more commentary on the Model Y, the newest addition to the Tesla lineup, and on upcoming models, such as the Cybertruck and a cheaper vehicle that has been only hinted at and that has been dubbed the “Model 2.”

Analysts at JPMorgan said Friday they remained “highly cautious” on Tesla due to its stock valuation, but they raised their price target on the stock to $125 from $105, the lowest among FactSet-surveyed analysts.

“While still suggestive of large downside, we do not regard our price target as ungenerous as it actually values Tesla as the world’s second largest automaker by market capitalization, behind Toyota and ahead of Volkswagen despite these automakers each currently selling on the order of magnitude of 20x as many vehicles annually as Tesla,” the JPMorgan analysts, led by Ryan Brinkman, said in their note.

RBC analysts, led by Joseph Spak, said in a recent note they expect Tesla to reiterate its recently raised capex 2021 outlook, which calls for between $4.5 billion and $6 billion.

Tesla historically has issued guidance for free cash flow and GAAP net income, the RBC analysts said, but could hold off on it beyond calling for “significant” on-year improvement.

Deutsche Bank analysts said they expect a “solid” quarter for Tesla, raising their delivery forecast to 825,000 vehicles from 800,000, “given

continued strong sales of Model 3 and fast ramp-up of (made-in-China) Model Y.”

The Deutsche Bank analysts, led by Emmanuel Rosner, also raised their price target on Tesla shares to $890 from 705 to $890, based on expectations of higher sales and profits through 2021 and the next few years.

On average, Tesla analysts polled by FactSet have a price target of $525 on Tesla, with 12 out of the 37 with a buy rating on the stock, 15 rating it a hold, and the remaining 10 rating it a sell. Before the start of the pandemic, the company set a goal of delivering more than 500,000 vehicles in the year.Wall Street analysts expect a deliveries guidance to come in around 825,000 and 875,000 vehicles. Here’s what else to expect:Earnings:Consensus from 37 Wall Street analysts polled by FactSet calls for GAAP earnings of 65 cents a share, which would compare with GAAP earnings of 12 cents a share in the fourth quarter of 2019.The analysts expect an adjusted profit of $1.04 a share, which would compare with an adjusted profit of 43 cents a share a year ago. A fourth-quarter profit would be Tesla’s sixth straight quarterly GAAP and adjusted earnings.Estimize, a crowdsourcing platform that gathers estimates from Wall Street analysts as well as buy-side analysts, fund managers, company executives, academics and others, is expecting an adjusted profit of $1.02 a share.Revenue:The analysts surveyed by FactSet expect sales of $10.53 billion for Tesla, up from $7.38 billion a year ago. Estimize sees revenue of $10.61 billion for the company.Stock movement:Tesla stock greeted 2021 just about the same way it ended 2020: Scoring closing and intraday records highs. Earlier this month, the stock went on its longest-everwinning run.Tesla shares are up 635% in the past 12 months, compared with gains around 16% for the S&P 500 indexSPX,-0.30%in the same period. What else to expect:Full-year results will provide the clearest yet picture of the coronavirus pandemic impact on the company.Besides an official 2021 sales guidance, Wall Street is looking for more commentary on the Model Y, the newest addition to the Tesla lineup, and on upcoming models, such as the Cybertruck and a cheaper vehicle that has been only hinted at and that has been dubbed the “Model 2.”Analysts at JPMorgan said Friday they remained “highly cautious” on Tesla due to its stock valuation, but they raised their price target on the stock to $125 from $105, the lowest among FactSet-surveyed analysts.“While still suggestive of large downside, we do not regard our price target as ungenerous as it actually values Tesla as the world’s second largest automaker by market capitalization, behind Toyota and ahead of Volkswagen despite these automakers each currently selling on the order of magnitude of 20x as many vehicles annually as Tesla,” the JPMorgan analysts, led by Ryan Brinkman, said in their note.RBC analysts, led by Joseph Spak, said in a recent note they expect Tesla to reiterate its recently raised capex 2021 outlook, which calls for between $4.5 billion and $6 billion.Tesla historically has issued guidance for free cash flow and GAAP net income, the RBC analysts said, but could hold off on it beyond calling for “significant” on-year improvement.Deutsche Bank analysts said they expect a “solid” quarter for Tesla, raising their delivery forecast to 825,000 vehicles from 800,000, “givencontinued strong sales of Model 3 and fast ramp-up of (made-in-China) Model Y.”The Deutsche Bank analysts, led by Emmanuel Rosner, also raised their price target on Tesla shares to $890 from 705 to $890, based on expectations of higher sales and profits through 2021 and the next few years. On average, Tesla analysts polled by FactSet have a price target of $525 on Tesla, with 12 out of the 37 with a buy rating on the stock, 15 rating it a hold, and the remaining 10 rating it a sell. The $525 average represents a 37% downside from Friday prices.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":823,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3527667803686145","authorId":"3527667803686145","name":"社区成长助手","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2b7c7106b5c0c8b0037faa67439d898f","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"authorIdStr":"3527667803686145","idStr":"3527667803686145"},"content":"Finally, when you first post [compare heart] [compare heart] post, you can get more exposure by related stocks or related topics. Apple no longer provides unit-sales metrics that shed light on its average selling prices, but the company usually offers some qualitative comments about which devices are performing best.

Apple has also seen strong sales of Macs and iPads amid the pandemic, with more people working and studying from home, and that momentum is expected to have continued into the fiscal first quarter. The company launched new iPads late last year as well as its first computers to feature the company's own custom chip .

Analysts expect record performance for the company's services category as well, though one area may not hold up as well. Apple has done a good job of transitioning sales to its online store given the COVID-19 crisis, but it's \"overly reliant on in-store customer purchases\" to drive sales of its AppleCare insurance product, Huberty wrote.

Earnings: Analysts tracked by FactSet expect that Apple earned $1.41 a share in the December quarter, up from $1.25 a year earlier.

Should investors buy or sell the stock on this news?\\Investors are hoping that Shopify stock eventually gets the love that we saw in Amazon (AMZN) and Alphabet (GOOGL) after those two announced stock splits earlier this year. When Shopify announced its 10-for-1 split, the stock was down 66%.If management needs a catalyst, I don’t know if a stock split is it. But it also came just days before the S&P 500 bottomed and ripped off an 11.5% gain as it rallied in nine out of 11 sessions.Sorry for the long-winded approach, but the impact of a stock split is important in my view. It doesn’t fix anything or change the situation. It simply multiples the share count and divides the stock price. It’s arithmetic. However, when sentiment is strong, investors gobble up this bit of “good news.” Heck, I like stock splits as much as the next trader. But in bear markets — like the one Shopify stock is in — I don’t think they have as meaningful of an impact because sentiment is so poor.Allow me to also say that I really like Shopify stock and believe in its long-term potential. Above that is followed by the $775 to $780 zone.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SHOP":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2003,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":186067142,"gmtCreate":1623465847886,"gmtModify":1704204400685,"author":{"id":"3569410458745651","authorId":"3569410458745651","name":"daniu0808","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0770f0a1f8455d6631127f012d3f379b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3569410458745651","idStr":"3569410458745651"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$VanEck Vectors Vietnam ETF(VNM)$??? Today, Ives raised his price target on Apple's stock to $175 from $160, but also laid out a bull case for why the stock could climb to as high as $225.
