This figure is expected to increase to 22% of global retail sales by 2024, demonstrating that -- slowly but surely -- e-commerce is becoming a primary way consumers order goods in the modern era.

E-commerce is widely adopted in the U.S. for the most part, but the true growth in e-commerce comes from international regions. Many parts of the world barely rely on e-commerce for their retail needs, but as these regions begin to rapidly adopt online retail, these three companies could reap major benefits.

Sea Limited

Sea Limited is looking to become a global e-commerce company. Its e-commerce business -- Shopee -- got its start in Singapore in 2015, but it has since expanded across the world. Shopee is now a dominant e-commerce player across all of Southeast Asia and Latin America, and even has ties in India and Europe. With such a broad reach, Shopee became the most downloaded shopping app in the world in 2021.

This dominance has unsurprisingly led to amazing growth for the company. Revenue for its e-commerce segment reached $1.5 billion in the third quarter of 2021, which grew a whopping 134% year over year. Total revenue also grew 122% year over year, helped by its two other strong businesses that are growing at triple-digit rates. Many companies growing revenue at triple-digit rates are micro-cap companies, but Sea Limited is a large and established business -- its market cap is $103 billion -- making its growth that much more impressive.

Not only is Sea Limited a leading e-commerce company, it also has one of the world's most popular video games and a resilient fintech business. The company continuously puts up strong top-line growth in all parts of its business, yet it is valued at just 12 times sales -- the lowest valuation that Sea has seen in over a year. Despite the stock falling drastically over the past few months, Sea Limited is succeeding on all fronts of its business, making it one of my best ideas to buy today and hold for decades.

Pinterest

Pinterest stock has also been crushed like Sea Limited. From its all-time high set in early 2021, the company's shares have fallen over 60%. This has led to Pinterest potentially becoming a value play: Pinterest's forward price-to-earnings ratio is 24. This valuation is almost equal to Meta Platforms' valuation of 23 times forward earnings, despite Pinterest having magnitudes more growth potential.

For Pinterest, the growth story is in its average revenue per user (ARPU). The company's platform has strong adoption both in the U.S. and internationally, but Pinterest is just getting started with developing itself as an e-commerce platform. It has struggled with monetization in the past, but it has recently taken steps to make it easy for consumers to buy items they see on the platform. The company has made it easier for sellers to tag items in pictures, so when Pinterest users see a product they like, it only takes them a few clicks to purchase.

The opportunity for Pinterest to grow its ARPU is massive. In Q3, Pinterest's global ARPU was just $1.41 which pales in comparison to Meta's global ARPU of $10. Considering that both companies currently sell at roughly the same price, Pinterest's opportunity to grow in the online e-commerce market is immense, and I think this social media stock has more promise than any of its peers.

Coupang

Coupang might be the most undervalued international e-commerce stock today. It is valued at less than 2 times sales, lower than Sea Limited, Alibaba, and even Amazon. Despite this rock-bottom price, the Korean-based e-commerce giant is seeing impressive strength. The company has 16.8 million active customers, which make up almost one-third of the Korean population. Despite this strong leadership in the country, its active customers still increased 20% year over year in Q3, marking the 15th consecutive quarter Coupang has grown its active customer count by this much.

What makes Coupang truly special and unreplicable is its strong footprint in Korea. About 70% of Korean citizens live within just seven miles of a logistics center, making it possible for Coupang to offer same-day, next-day, or dawn delivery for almost all orders on its platform. This major infrastructure investment Coupang has made over several years would be incredibly hard and expensive to replicate by any competitor, and it has allowed Coupang to develop an extremely strong brand name and customer satisfaction.

The company is looking to expand into Japan, but that could take a long time to materialize. After all, the company would have to reinvest in infrastructure as it did in Korea all over again. However, if it can build up its impressive logistics infrastructure again, the company could see the same success it has had in South Korea. These two regions alone would allow Coupang to grow steadily for the next five years, and it is even eyeing other countries like Singapore and Taiwan. Even if you're just looking at Japan and South Korea, though, the future looks bright for Coupang.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Top E-Commerce Stocks to Buy in January
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Top E-Commerce Stocks to Buy in January\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-01-17 13:24 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
According to the U.S. International Trade Administration, global e-commerce sales made up 18% of global retail sales in 2020. Shopee is now a dominant e-commerce player across all of Southeast Asia and Latin America, and even has ties in India and Europe. With such a broad reach, Shopee became the most downloaded shopping app in the world in 2021.This dominance has unsurprisingly led to amazing growth for the company. Despite the stock falling drastically over the past few months, Sea Limited is succeeding on all fronts of its business, making it one of my best ideas to buy today and hold for decades.Pinterest Pinterest stock has also been crushed like Sea Limited. Considering that both companies currently sell at roughly the same price, Pinterest's opportunity to grow in the online e-commerce market is immense, and I think this social media stock has more promise than any of its peers.Coupang Coupang might be the most undervalued international e-commerce stock today. Even if you're just looking at Japan and South Korea, though, the future looks bright for Coupang.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":773,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9005534729,"gmtCreate":1642344737982,"gmtModify":1676533702796,"author":{"id":"3571919991986405","authorId":"3571919991986405","name":"ProsPaddles","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5743775abc150fab8749a749f0511b63","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571919991986405","authorIdStr":"3571919991986405"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"To the š!!!","listText":"To the š!!!","text":"To the š!!!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9005534729","repostId":"1169852230","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1169852230","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1642295348,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1169852230?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-16 09:09","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Palantir: The Myth Of Overvaluation","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1169852230","media":"Seeking Alpha","summary":"SummaryPalantir went through a large drop in pricing in Q4ā21 and in the early days of 2022.Shares o","content":"

Summary

Palantir went through a large drop in pricing in Q4ā21 and in the early days of 2022.

Shares of Palantir are not overvalued, they trade at 16X FY 2025 projected free cash flow.

Commercial revenue acceleration, new product launches, expansion of the free cash flow margin and potential SPAC deal pay-offs support Palantirās valuation.

The new year is just fourteen days old and shares of Palantir (PLTR) already fell 12%, continuing a sell-off that started back in November 2021. Palantir will start to roll out its "Foundry for Crypto" in FY 2022 which offers banks, FinTechs and other companies involved in the crypto economy a way to validate customer information and to implement anti-money laundering tools. Adoption of Palantir's Foundry for Crypto platform by leading market institutions could materially accelerate Palantir's commercial revenue growth.

Because of the opening of a new business segment, I see strong prospects for revenue acceleration for Palantir in the foreseeable future. Palantir's commercial revenue growth accelerated throughout FY 2021 due to strong customer acquisition and growing adoption of the firm's products and services. Palantir's commercial revenue growth accelerated from 19% in Q1'21 to 28% in Q2'21, and then to 37% in Q3'21. Palantir's revenue acceleration in the commercial business was the reason why Palantir raised its free cash flow and revenue guidance for FY 2021. Because the commercial segment is growing increasingly fast, Palantir already raised its free cash flow outlook twice in FY 2021. The firm now expects free cash flow of $400M+ for FY 2021, after raising the guidance by 33% in Q3'21.

Palantir is not overvalued based on expected free cash flow ramp

Palantir's business reached a critical point in FY 2021 and the proof is in the company's growing free cash flow margins. As the firm scales its services and leads more customers through its onboarding process, Palantir should see a significant improvement of its free cash flow margin going forward. Palantir's Q3'21 free cash flow was $119M which calculates to a free cash flow margin of 30%. I believe Palantir could grow its free cash flow margin to 40% by 2025, meaning the firm is set to become a seriously profitable business within the next four years.I also expect Palantir to grow revenues faster than the 30% that have been mentioned as a long-term growth target. The reason for this is that Palantir is signing on more customers and those customers spend more money on the firm's products and services over time, meaningĀ monetization is improving. Assuming that Palantir can grow revenues at an annual 35% rate over the next four years, Palantir is looking at $5.0B in revenues and $2.0B in free cash flow by FY 2025. The calculation belowĀ is built on the assumption that Palantir's free cash flow margin will grow from 30% in FY 2021 to 40% by FY 2025. Over the next four years, Palantir should be able to increase its annual free cash flow by at least a factor of 4 X.And investors should not forget about this potentially massive income streamā¦

The "forgotten" SPAC business

Palantir has come up with aĀ clever revenue growth strategyĀ that combines upside in SPAC investments with long-term software servicing contracts. Palantir is committing investing capital to startups that look to finance growth and, in return, the company gets equity and a signed contract for the provision of its software platforms. I rarely see this business discussed, but it presents considerable valuation upside for Palantir. In Q3'21, the firm's total investments in startups summarized to $226.5M. Palantir only needs one big exit from one of these SPAC investments listed below to generate a massive windfall.Risks with Palantir

The biggest risk for shares of Palantir, as I see it, is continual selling pressure that is the result of a profound misunderstanding related to how the firm's business model works in practice. Palantir's business is evolving and progress is measurable and undeniable. The proof is in Palantir's improving free cash flow margin and accelerating (commercial) revenue growth. Revenues can only accelerate if more companies adopt Palantir's services. Customers are also growing their platform spend, meaning each customer that signs with Palantir is going to have a higher value for the firm in the future, unless they cancel their relationship of course. Since the business had a net customer add of 34 in Q3'21, there is no evidence that customers are unhappy with the services they receive. This margin improvement could result from the launch of new high-margin products like Foundry for Crypto, the accelerating roll-out of Foundry for Builders and higher product spend on a per-customer basis. Both U.S. carmakers are aiming to expand battery production and EV model rollouts over the next five years as they chase Tesla's leadership at home and in China, the world's biggest car market.
\n
And the pair have a lot of chasing to do: although electric cars comprise a tiny total of the 14.5 million vehicles sold in the U.S. last year, most were made by Elon Musk's company. Tesla sold just over 200,000 electric cars in the U.S. in 2020, nearly ten times more than GM's best (at least to date) EV option, the Chevy Bolt.
\n
U.S. EV makers also facing increasing pressure from global giants such as Volkswagen (VLKAY), which wants to sell one million electric and hybrid cars this year, while spending ā¬35 billion ($42.4 billion) by 2025 to expand battery production and fleet offerings in a bid to dominate the European market.
\n
Toyota (TM) -Get Report, the world's biggest carmaker and the first company to sell electric cars in volume, plans to have 70 EV models on the market by 2025 and use its legacy foothold in China -- where the Corolla is a perennial favorite -- to boost overall sales.
\n
So where does that leave U.S. automakers in their drive to capture the lion's share of the industry's next century?
\n
Much will depend on President Joe Biden's ambitions of investing around $175 billion in clean-energy car infrastructure, including charging stations and tax incentives, in order to spark a change in perception for the American car buyer, who has yet to find electric vehicles nearly as exciting as the media.
\n
Tax incentives might help, and Senate lawmakers are moving a bill that could boost the current maximum credit for buyers of an EV from $7,500 to $12,500, but lifetime limits for manufacturers of 200,000 eligible vehicles is a laughably absurd figure (GM passed it three years ago) that is holding back EV adoption.
\n
Battery costs, too, must come down if carmakers are going to build profit margins that justify the billions they've invested in developing EVs (that also limit shareholder friendly initiatives such as buybacks and dividends).
\n
Ford hopes to cut its battery costs to $80 per kilowatt hour by 2030 from $155 currently, a figure GM hopes to reach by 2025, but Tesla wants to get that number down to $55, and if successful, would extend its lead over domestic rivals.
\n
That might explain Tesla's near $600 billion market value -- some seven times more than GM, which sold 13.6 times more cars than Tesla last year -- and the assumption that it will continue its EV market dominance.
\n
But that leadership is based on Tesla's strength in China, where the country's passenger car association said it had an 11.6% market share of EV sales last year, where it remains vulnerable to government edicts and favored domestic rivals, and the sale of carbon credits that flatter its bottom line and account for more profits than the sale of four-wheel products.
\n
Ford and GM, meanwhile, face deep-pocketed rivals in the form of VW and Toyota that also have the added advantage of footholds in markets that the U.S. pair have either abandoned (Europe) or in which they are merely nascent (China).
\n
Furthermore, tax breaks that create union jobs -- a stated ambition of the Biden EV infrastructure plans -- are unlikely to find favor in a bill that has little support among Republican lawmakers, and should Congress flip in 2022 to GOP control, you wouldn't bet on deeper support from a government saddled with record budget deficits and $21 trillion in debt.
\n
Ford's coming electrified F-150, a revamp of the world's most popular vehicle, could change American buyer perception, but a decade of false starts, from the Volt to Focus and others, have yet to be fully overcome.
\n
We won't be driving combustion-engine cars in 25 years, that's for sure -- in fact, we may not be driving much at all if autonomous technology reaches the lofty goals its creators have set -- but we simply can't say for sure whether Tesla, or any American company, will be making the ones that we do.
","source":"lsy1610613172068","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Both U.S. carmakers are aiming to expand battery production and EV model rollouts over the next five years as they chase Tesla's leadership at home and in China, the world's biggest car market.\nAnd the pair have a lot of chasing to do: although electric cars comprise a tiny total of the 14.5 million vehicles sold in the U.S. last year, most were made by Elon Musk's company. Tesla sold just over 200,000 electric cars in the U.S. in 2020,Ā nearly ten times more than GM's best (at least to date) EV option, the Chevy Bolt.\nU.S. EV makers also facing increasing pressure from global giants such as VolkswagenĀ (VLKAY), which wants to sellĀ one million electric and hybrid cars this year, while spendingĀ ā¬35 billion ($42.4 billion) by 2025Ā to expand battery production and fleet offerings in a bid to dominate the European market.\nToyotaĀ (TM) -Get Report, the world's biggest carmaker and theĀ first company to sell electric cars in volume,Ā plans to have 70 EVĀ models on the market by 2025 and use its legacy foothold in China -- where the Corolla is a perennial favorite -- to boost overall sales.\nSo where does that leave U.S. automakers in their drive to capture the lion's share of the industry's next century?\nMuch will depend on President Joe Biden's ambitions of investing around $175 billion in clean-energy car infrastructure, including charging stations and tax incentives, in order to spark a change in perception for the American car buyer, who has yet to find electric vehicles nearly as exciting as the media.\nTax incentives might help, and Senate lawmakers are moving a bill that could boost the current maximum credit for buyers of an EV from $7,500 to $12,500, but lifetime limits for manufacturers of 200,000 eligible vehicles is a laughably absurd figure (GM passed it three years ago) that is holding back EV adoption.\nBattery costs, too, must come down if carmakers are going to build profit margins that justify the billions they've invested in developing EVsĀ (that also limit shareholder friendly initiatives such as buybacks and dividends).\nFord hopes to cut its battery costs to $80 per kilowatt hour by 2030 from $155 currently, a figure GM hopes to reach by 2025, but Tesla wants to get that number down to $55, and if successful, would extend its lead over domestic rivals.\nThat might explain Tesla's near $600 billion market value -- some seven times more than GM, which sold 13.6 times more cars than Tesla last year -- and the assumption that it will continue its EV market dominance.\nBut that leadership is based on Tesla's strength in China, whereĀ the country's passenger car association said it had an 11.6% market share of EV sales last year, where it remains vulnerable to government edicts and favored domestic rivals, and the sale of carbon credits that flatter its bottom line and account for more profits than the sale of four-wheel products.\nFord and GM, meanwhile, face deep-pocketed rivals in the form of VW and Toyota that also have the added advantage of footholds in markets that the U.S. pair have either abandoned (Europe) or in which they are merely nascent (China).\nFurthermore, tax breaks that create union jobs -- a stated ambition of the Biden EV infrastructure plans -- are unlikely to find favor in a bill that has little support among Republican lawmakers, and should Congress flip in 2022 to GOP control, you wouldn't bet on deeper support from a government saddled with record budget deficits and $21 trillion in debt.\nFord's coming electrified F-150, a revamp of the world's most popular vehicle, could change American buyer perception, but a decade of false starts, from the Volt to Focus and others, have yet to be fully overcome.\nWe won't be driving combustion-engine cars in 25 years, that's for sure -- in fact, we may not be driving much at all if autonomous technology reaches the lofty goals its creators have set -- but we simply can't say for sure whether Tesla, or any American company, will be making the ones that we do.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":170,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3583318222987864","authorId":"3583318222987864","name":"TheMilkyWay","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/190d59bcbcc876e15543cbd430d8c1f2","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3583318222987864","authorIdStr":"3583318222987864"},"content":"Still buying, still holding. Probably the opposite of what you are thinking. Before we get to that, here is a look at the two key events for stocks ā in the bond market and at the Fed ā between today and the end of the year.
\n
Rising yields
\n
Remember how the stock market freaked out earlier this year when the 10-year Treasury yield TMUBMUSD10Y,1.452% moved up to around 1.7%? Well, expect a repeat. Only worse.
\n
āWe suspect that inflation in the U.S. will prove more persistent than investors currently appear to anticipate,ā says Capital Economics economist Franziska Palmas, citing the tight labor market and wage growth. Her research group puts the 10-year yield at 2.25% by the end of this year, and 2.5% by the end of 2022.
\n
Thatāll be a big move from the current level of 1.5%. Stock investors tend to panic when interest rates rise a lot.
\n
Fed tapering
\n
Fed Chairman Jerome Powell has downplayed the need for tapering the central bankās bond purchases to keep yields low. But half of the 12 members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) have recently said theyāre ready to start talking about tapering. The FOMC is the Fed branch that sets monetary policy.
\n
āIt will be increasingly hard for Powell to claim the economy needs to make āsubstantial further progressā toward achieving maximum employment before the Fed starts talking about talking about tapering,ā says Ed Yardeni, author of Predicting the Markets and head of Yardeni Research. Powell has repeatedly said the Fed is awaiting āsubstantial further progressā in the economy before terminating its stimulus.
\n
āGiven the performance of the economy, it is reasonable to expect they will start to taper before end of year, and a few months later they will start to raise the federal funds rate,ā predicts Yardeni.
\n
He thinks the Fed will announce a decision to start tapering in its July meeting. Tapering refers to a reduction in bond purchases by the Fed. This tightens the money supply to put the brakes on growth. Once purchases go to zero, the Fed moves on to cutting rates.
\n
As we know, tapering causes a ātaper tantrumā in the stock market, meaning a sharp selloff in indices like the S&P 500 SPX,+0.19%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA,+0.04% and Nasdaq COMP,+0.35%.
\n
How to prepare
\n
When considering how to position for the probable selloff caused by rising bond yields and Fed tightening, the key things to remember is why these things are happening in the first place, and what history tells us about how stocks behave.
\n
The consensus view is that tapering and rising bond yields kill off economic growth and the bull market in stocks. But this isnāt actually true.
\n
Yes, initially, tightening can make stocks fall ā or churn sideways, at best. But then stocks shake it off and move higher as the bull market continues. This makes sense, because the tightening is happening for good reasons that help companies ā strong economic growth. This pushes earnings a lot higher, which resets valuations lower ā back down to levels investors feel comfortable with.
\n
āTapering is part and parcel of a recovery,ā says Leuthold market strategist Jim Paulsen. āIt is a response to successful policy and a rebound in the economy. It is a natural part of the bull market that allows the market to go higher. Itās a healthy development.ā
\n
Looking through all the market fireworks that may lie ahead, Paulsen thinks underlying economic growth will push S&P 500 earnings up to $220 by the end of the year. Assuming the S&P 500 is at current levels or a little bit lower, that would bring the indexās price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio down to 18-19 ā which is near or below the average since 1990. āThat sets up the next leg of the bull market,ā he says.
\n
Your five-point game plan
\n
1. Do not go to ādefensivesā
\n
When people see stock market turbulence, the knee-jerk reaction is to go for the āstabilityā of defensive names like utilities and consumer staples. But that would be a mistake. You want to go to defensives when the economy is slowing or contracting, not when it is strong. Another problem is that defensive names pay yield. So, like bonds, they get hit by rising interest rates, which devalue dividends ā and dividend-paying stocks and bonds.
\n
āThe best way to protect yourself is to tie your portfolio to the overheated economy. That is where the best profit growth and profit leverage is,ā says Paulsen. āYou do not get that with defensives.ā
\n
2. Go with companies that benefit from growth
\n
Since rapid economic growth is causing the tapering ā and the growth is usually not killed off by tightening ā stocks linked to growth typically are the best place to be. This means cyclicals like industrials, basic materials consumer names, small-caps and international stocks. āSlower growth consumer staples and utilities wonāt keep up with growth areas of the market,ā says Paulsen.
\n
I first suggested Lindblad Expeditions LIND,+0.17% and Cardlytics CDLX,+4.54% and in my stock letter, Brush Up on Stocks (the link to my site is in the bio, below) in September 2020 and November 2019. I still like and own both even though they are up 48% and 157% ā or two to four times the S&P 500. Recent insider buying confirms they are buys and holds around current levels. Plus, both are cyclical names. Cardlytics helps credit card companies understand customer buying patterns for marketing purposes. Lindblad offers specialized cruise adventures to exotic locales. Both benefit from economic growth that powers more consumer spending.
\n
3. Do not get out of stocks
\n
If you think a selloff is coming, it might be tempting to try to get out of stocks right before that, to buy back after the weakness happens. But this is a lot harder than you think. In fact, it is almost impossible to get the timing right, say market veterans.
\n
āYou have to make two smart decisions,ā says Yardeni. āYou have to get out just before the correction and then you have to decide when to get back in. I donāt know of too many people that can do that consistently.ā
\n
Market timers often get out and donāt get back in, and they miss the next leg up. āYou can get yourself into trouble trying to avoid the correction,ā says Paulsen.
\n
4. Do not own bonds
\n
Bond yields will be 2% or higher by the end of year. So donāt own bonds, whose prices fall when yields rise ā unless you simply plan to hold to maturity to collect the income.
\n
5. Go with financials
\n
Strong economies typically make the yield curve more upward sloping, meaning that long-term interest rates on 10-year Treasuries rise a lot faster than short-term interest rates. Since banks borrow at the short end and lend at the long end, steepening yield curves help them.
\n
The strong economy will also help banks release reserves and lower provisions for loan losses, both of which can boost earnings, points out Yardeni. Both JPMorgan Chase JPM,-0.07% and Bank of America BAC,+0.41% are up over twice as much as the S&P 500 since I suggested them in my stock letter last August. But they still look attractive. Recent pattern buying by smart insiders among smaller banks confirms the sector is still one to own, despite the strength over the past few quarters.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Donāt be fooled ā inflation is a big risk for stock market investors. Do not go to ādefensivesā\nWhen people see stock market turbulence, the knee-jerk reaction is to go for the āstabilityā of defensive names like utilities and consumer staples. But that would be a mistake. You want to go to defensives when the economy is slowing or contracting, not when it is strong. Another problem is that defensive names pay yield. So, like bonds, they get hit by rising interest rates, which devalue dividends ā and dividend-paying stocks and bonds.\nāThe best way to protect yourself is to tie your portfolio to the overheated economy. That is where the best profit growth and profit leverage is,ā says Paulsen. āYou do not get that with defensives.ā\n2. Go with companies that benefit from growth\nSince rapid economic growth is causing the tapering ā and the growth is usually not killed off by tightening ā stocks linked to growth typically are the best place to be. This means cyclicals like industrials, basic materials consumer names, small-caps and international stocks. āSlower growth consumer staples and utilities wonāt keep up with growth areas of the market,ā says Paulsen.\nI first suggested Lindblad Expeditions LIND,+0.17%Ā and Cardlytics CDLX,+4.54%Ā and in my stock letter, Brush Up on Stocks (the link to my site is in the bio, below) in September 2020 and November 2019. Both benefit from economic growth that powers more consumer spending.\n3. Do not get out of stocks\nIf you think a selloff is coming, it might be tempting to try to get out of stocks right before that, to buy back after the weakness happens. But this is a lot harder than you think. In fact, it is almost impossible to get the timing right, say market veterans.\nāYou have to make two smart decisions,ā says Yardeni. āYou have to get out just before the correction and then you have to decide when to get back in. I donāt know of too many people that can do that consistently.ā\nMarket timers often get out and donāt get back in, and they miss the next leg up. āYou can get yourself into trouble trying to avoid the correction,ā says Paulsen.\n4. Do not own bonds\nBond yields will be 2% or higher by the end of year. So donāt own bonds, whose prices fall when yields rise ā unless you simply plan to hold to maturity to collect the income.\n5. Go with financials\nStrong economies typically make the yield curve more upward sloping, meaning that long-term interest rates on 10-year Treasuries rise a lot faster than short-term interest rates. Since banks borrow at the short end and lend at the long end, steepening yield curves help them.\nThe strong economy will also help banks release reserves and lower provisions for loan losses, both of which can boost earnings, points out Yardeni. Both JPMorgan Chase JPM,-0.07%Ā and Bank of America BAC,+0.41%Ā are up over twice as much as the S&P 500 since I suggested them in my stock letter last August. But they still look attractive. Recent pattern buying by smart insiders among smaller banks confirms the sector is still one to own, despite the strength over the past few quarters.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":78,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3569313801991301","authorId":"3569313801991301","name":"å¼å¼åæåæ儽åæę ēå å¼","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/dff103551cc901aee1ee3b3d32ec232c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3569313801991301","authorIdStr":"3569313801991301"},"content":"don't trust fake news. they have been talking about inflation since 2007. they want us to panic sell so they can buy","text":"don't trust fake news. they have been talking about inflation since 2007. they want us to panic sell so they can buy","html":"don't trust fake news. they have been talking about inflation since 2007. they want us to panic sell so they can buy"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":195386568,"gmtCreate":1621257973554,"gmtModify":1704354733024,"author":{"id":"3571919991986405","authorId":"3571919991986405","name":"ProsPaddles","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5743775abc150fab8749a749f0511b63","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571919991986405","authorIdStr":"3571919991986405"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$enough said! Can that change in the second half of 2021?\n
\n
Alibaba (BABA) -Get Report has been a total dog so far this year. Shares were trading well into the fourth quarter of 2020 but then a string of issues pummeled the stock.
\n
Regulators disrupted Ant's initial public offering, then dug deeper on Alibaba and dialed up the heat.
\n
Investors donāt like regulatory issues as it is but particularly when weāre dealing with Chinese regulators.
\n
However, in April, Alibaba paid a smaller-than-expectedbut still record fine, hoping to puts its regulatory issues behind it. Still, the stock hasnāt responded the way bulls were hoping.
\n
All of this comes as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq continue to grind outnew all-time highs.
\n
It also comes as FAANG stocks continue to trade incredibly well. Alphabet (GOOGL) -Get Reportis the top performerwith a near-40% gain in the first half of the year, while Netflix (NFLX) -Get Report is the worst, with a 2.3% drop.
\n
Alibaba has a similar first-half performance, down 2.6%. However, itās doing far worse from the highs, down more than 30%.
\n
Can it turn around its woes in the second half and start rallying higher?
\n

\n
Call me a hopeless optimist, but I feel that Alibaba can have a solid second-half performance.
\n
The overall market has done too well and so has large-cap tech. The fundamentals of the business are intact and growth is strong. Itās like Amazon (AMZN) -Get Report.Eventually, it will perform better - itās a question of āwhenā and not āif.ā
\n
Shares continue to hold the $210 to $212 area and have recently cleared downtrend resistance (blue line). Can that change in the second half of 2021?\n\nAlibabaĀ (BABA) -Get ReportĀ has been a total dog so far this year. Shares were trading well into the fourth quarter of 2020 but then a string of issues pummeled the stock.\nRegulators disrupted Ant's initial public offering, then dug deeper on Alibaba and dialed up the heat.\nInvestors donāt like regulatory issues as it is but particularly when weāre dealing with Chinese regulators.\nHowever, in April, Alibaba paid a smaller-than-expectedbut still record fine, hoping to puts its regulatory issues behind it. Still, the stock hasnāt responded the way bulls were hoping.\nAll of this comes as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq continue to grind outnew all-time highs.\nIt also comes as FAANG stocks continue to trade incredibly well. However, itās doing far worse from the highs, down more than 30%.\nCan it turn around its woes in the second half and start rallying higher?\n\nCall me a hopeless optimist, but I feel that Alibaba can have a solid second-half performance.\nThe overall market has done too well and so has large-cap tech. The fundamentals of the business are intact and growth is strong. Itās like AmazonĀ (AMZN) -Get Report.Eventually, it will perform betterĀ - itās a question of āwhenā and not āif.ā\nShares continue to hold the $210 to $212 area and have recently cleared downtrend resistance (blue line). His argument isnāt just that certain large-cap growth companies are trading on the assumption their revenues will grow at improbably fast rates. He adds that even if a given company does grow at a fast-enough pace, it soon would be larger than the market as a whole. In that case āvaluations are mathematically impossible.ā

There are limits to growth, in other words. As John Maynard Keynes put it a century ago: trees donāt grow to the sky.

To illustrate, Deluard analyzed the 351 companies within the Russell 3000 index that trade for more than 10 times sales. Thatās much higher than the market as a whole; the S&P 500ās price-to-sales ratio is 3.0. Deluard generously assumed that these companiesā revenue will grow by a factor of 54 over the next 17 years āequivalent to 26% annualized. He further assumed that, at the end of those 17 years, their price-to-sales ratios would be 6.4-to-1.

Deluard used these extremely generous assumptions because they apply to the so-called MAGA stocks (Microsoft,Apple,Alphabetās Google and Amazon.com). Those four companiesā revenues have grown at a 26% annualized pace, on average, over the past 17 years, and their average current price-to-sales ratio is 6.4.

Using a discount rate of 10% to calculate the present value of what these 351 companies would be worth in 2038 under his assumptions, Deluard found that 59 of them already have higher market caps. In other words, āthe market currently expects that almost 60 companies will be more successful [over the next 17 years] than Microsoft, Apple, Google and Amazon [have been over the last 17].ā

Given the increasingly āwinner-take-allā U.S. economy, it is in fact most unlikely that there will be many MAGA-like stocks in 2038. After all, the four current MAGA stocks represent around 20% of the total market cap of the S&P 500. These 59 emerging MAGA stocksā combined market cap in 2038 would therefore be larger than the overall market under any realistic assumptions of the equity marketās performance over the next 17 years.

How realistic are Deluardās assumptions?

Deluardās assumptions are generous, but he himself does not think they are realistic, I hasten to add. His point is that, even with them, itās hard to justify the valuations of many of todayās high-flying growth stocks.

One way he illustrates how unrealistic his assumptions are is to calculate how many years it will take the MAGA stocks to āgrow into their valuations.ā Take Microsoft, for example, which currently trades at a price-to-sales ratio (PSR) of nearly 12-to-1. Eventually, of course, the companyās PSR will converge with that of the overall market (currently with a PSR of 3.0), since otherwise the company would have to grow so fast as to become almost as large as the market itself (if not larger).

Deluard calculates the number of years it will take for this convergence to take place, even with the generous assumption that Microsoftās revenue grows for the foreseeable future at the same pace it has for the last five years. Even if its stock price goes nowhere, he reports, this convergence will take 17 years.

The analogy Deluard draws is to the so-called Nifty Fifty stocks of the early 1970s. They were the high-flying blue-chip stocks that became so popular that their P/E ratios at the top of the bull market in late 1972 were, on average, double that of the overall market. Though their revenue continued to grow at a fast pace in subsequent years, their extreme overvaluation meant that their stock prices still went nowhere or declined for years thereafter.

Another analogy is to Cisco Systems stock at the top of the late 1990s internet bubble, when it briefly was the most valuable stock in the world. Since then the companyās sales have grown at more than twice the rate of the average S&P 500 company. And yet, despite this impressive growth, the companyās stock today is well below where it stood then. Deluard believes that a similar fate faces not just the MAGA stocks, but also the U.S. marketās many other extremely overvalued growth stocks.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Why the future for Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Apple and other pricey growth stocks isnāt so bright
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nWhy the future for Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Apple and other pricey growth stocks isnāt so bright\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-05-21 10:50 GMT+8 MarketWatch\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
It will be virtually impossible for some of the U.S. stock marketās largest companies to grow fast enough to justify their current valuations.Thatās the conclusion reached by a recent study conducted ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AMZN":"äŗ马é","AAPL":"č¹ę","GOOG":"č°·ę",".IXIC":"NASDAQ Composite",".DJI":"éē¼ęÆ","MSFT":"å¾®č½Æ","GOOGL":"č°·ęA",".SPX":"S&P 500 Index"},"source_url":"https://www.marketwatch.com/story/why-the-future-for-microsoft-amazon-google-apple-and-other-pricey-growth-stocks-isnt-so-bright-11621462054?mod=home-page","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1161150268","content_text":"It will be virtually impossible for some of the U.S. stock marketās largest companies to grow fast enough to justify their current valuations.Thatās the conclusion reached by a recent study conducted by Vincent Deluard, head of global macro strategy at investment firm StoneX. He further assumed that, at the end of those 17 years, their price-to-sales ratios would be 6.4-to-1.Deluard used these extremely generous assumptions because they apply to the so-called MAGA stocks (Microsoft,Apple,Alphabetās GoogleĀ and Amazon.com). Those four companiesā revenues have grown at a 26% annualized pace, on average, over the past 17 years, and their average current price-to-sales ratio is 6.4.Using a discount rate of 10% to calculate the present value of what these 351 companies would be worth in 2038 under his assumptions, Deluard found that 59 of them already have higher market caps. In other words, āthe market currently expects that almost 60 companies will be more successful [over the next 17 years] than Microsoft, Apple, Google and Amazon [have been over the last 17].āGiven theĀ increasingly āwinner-take-allā U.S. economy, it is in fact most unlikely that there will be many MAGA-like stocks in 2038. After all, the four current MAGA stocks represent around 20% of the total market cap of the S&P 500. These 59 emerging MAGA stocksā combined market cap in 2038 would therefore be larger than the overall market under any realistic assumptions of the equity marketās performance over the next 17 years. How realistic are Deluardās assumptions?Deluardās assumptions are generous, but he himself does not think they are realistic, I hasten to add. Eventually, of course, the companyās PSR will converge with that of the overall market (currently with a PSR of 3.0), since otherwise the company would have to grow so fast as to become almost as large as the market itself (if not larger).Deluard calculates the number of years it will take for this convergence to take place, even with the generous assumption that Microsoftās revenue grows for the foreseeable future at the same pace it has for the last five years. Though their revenue continued to grow at a fast pace in subsequent years, their extreme overvaluation meant that their stock prices still went nowhere or declined for years thereafter.Another analogy is to Cisco SystemsĀ stock at the top of the late 1990s internet bubble, when it briefly was the most valuable stock in the world. Since then the companyās sales have grown at more than twice the rate of the average S&P 500 company. And yet, despite this impressive growth, the companyās stock today is well below where it stood then. Deluard believes that a similar fate faces not just the MAGA stocks, but also the U.S. marketās many other extremely overvalued growth stocks.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":192,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3563873670221480","authorId":"3563873670221480","name":"ęi168","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/34b2d0551b5ab028c13ab35747c4df8c","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3563873670221480","authorIdStr":"3563873670221480"},"content":"Not sure what he is taling about [Facepalm]","text":"Not sure what he is taling about [Facepalm]","html":"Not sure what he is taling about [Facepalm]"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":152574700,"gmtCreate":1625320154300,"gmtModify":1703740398361,"author":{"id":"3571919991986405","authorId":"3571919991986405","name":"ProsPaddles","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5743775abc150fab8749a749f0511b63","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571919991986405","authorIdStr":"3571919991986405"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"We have heard many times that the market is crashing. Famed skeptic Rod Hall, at Goldman Sachs, finally threw in the towel after the Cupertino company delivered a record-breaking fiscal second quarter. Wolfe Researchās Jeff Kvaal maintains his sell rating, but at a high price target of $125 that suggests minimal downside risk.
\n
Pierre Ferragu goes deeper. In his view, the best of Appleās iPhone upgrade wave, the so-called 5G super cycle, has been left in the rearview mirror. The point was reinforced by the analystās views that the Cupertino companyās upcoming smartphone will probably be a ā12S modelā with limited updates.
\n
In addition to an underwhelming 2021 iPhone model in the pipeline, Mr. Ferraguās bearish thesis is further illustrated by his quote below:
\n
\n āThe key question is how things shape up for next year, as the current super cycle has brought forward demand [ā¦] and consumers spend less on consumer electronics as the economy re-opens.ā\n
\n
Plugging some numbers
\n
New Street offered some figures to back up the 30% downside risk. According to the analyst, 2022 iPhone shipments would land at 190 million units, at the mid-point of the guidance range.
\n
If ASPs (average selling prices) remain elevated, as they have been in the first two quarters of fiscal 2021, the bear case points at next-year iPhone revenues of around $150 billion. At these levels, iPhone sales would have increased by a modest 5% per year through the COVID-19 crisis and pandemic recovery, against what I estimate to be nearly 20% consensus growth.
\n
Considering how relevant the iPhone still is to Appleās financial performance (50% of total company sales in fiscal 2020), low growth prospects would likely lead to valuation compression. The double whammy would come in the form of consensus-lagging EPS, a combination of which would be needed to support New Streetās $90 share price target.
\n
The Apple Mavenās opinion
\n
One thing is clear: stock prices can swing wildly and correct sharply. Apple stock is no stranger to painful pullbacks. Shares have dipped by 40% or more from the peak (12% currently, plus the nearly 30% decline expected by New Street) several times before, as the chart below suggests.
\n
Figure 2: Maximum drawdown in AAPL since IPO.
\n
But quite a bit would have to go wrong, in my opinion, for AAPL to return to $90 ā levels not seen since the thick of the pandemic. From higher ASPs in 2021 to increased sales well past the peak of the stay-at-home buying spree, the iPhone seems to be experiencing a secular, not temporary increase in demand.
\n
Weakness in iPhone would likely need to come along muted results in other segments as well. In other words, Appleās troubles would have to be broader, rather than product specific. To me, this would only be possible under two key assumptions:
\n
\n
The post-pandemic āreturn to normalā will, indeed, cause discretionary spending to shift meaningfully away from tech devices and services ā which I am skeptical about;
\n
The economy will endure a double-dip recession that cannot be remedied as well by fiscal and monetary stimuli āsomething that I also believe to be of low probability.
\n
\n
At the end of the day, AAPL $90 is possible ā just not highly likely, in my view.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Stock To Sink 30%? Could Apple stock dip about 30% from current levels, as one Wall Street analyst argues?\nAnew bear hasĀ emergedĀ from its cave. New Streetās Pierre Ferragu believes that Apple stock is now a sell, downgraded from his previous neutral stance, and that shares could sink by nearly 30% from current levels to only $90.\nThe Apple Maven gets inside the mind of this Wall Street skeptic to better understand the potential risks of investing in Apple stock today.\nFigure 1: Wall Street bear.\nā12S cycleā coming up?\nNew Street is effectively the only true Apple bear on Wall Street today. Famed skeptic Rod Hall, at Goldman Sachs, finallyĀ threw in the towelĀ after the Cupertino company deliveredĀ a record-breaking fiscal second quarter. Wolfe Researchās Jeff KvaalĀ maintains his sell rating, but at a high price target of $125 that suggests minimal downside risk.\nPierre Ferragu goes deeper. In his view, the best of Appleās iPhone upgrade wave, theĀ so-called 5G super cycle, has been left in the rearview mirror. The point was reinforced by the analystās views that the Cupertino companyās upcoming smartphone will probably be a ā12S modelā with limited updates.\nIn addition to an underwhelming 2021 iPhone model in the pipeline, Mr. Ferraguās bearish thesis is further illustrated by his quote below:\n\n āThe key question is how things shape up for next year, as the current super cycle has brought forward demand [ā¦] and consumers spend less on consumer electronics as the economy re-opens.ā\n\nPlugging some numbers\nNew Street offered some figures to back up the 30% downside risk. According to the analyst, 2022 iPhone shipments would land at 190 million units, at the mid-point of the guidance range.\nIf ASPs (average selling prices) remain elevated, as they have been in the first two quarters of fiscal 2021, the bear case points at next-year iPhone revenues of around $150 billion. At these levels, iPhone sales would have increased by a modest 5% per year through the COVID-19 crisis and pandemic recovery, against what I estimate to be nearly 20% consensus growth.\nConsidering how relevant the iPhone still is to Appleās financial performance (50% of total company sales in fiscal 2020), low growth prospects would likely lead to valuation compression. The double whammy would come in the form of consensus-lagging EPS, a combination of which would be needed to support New Streetās $90 share price target.\nThe Apple Mavenās opinion\nOne thing is clear: stock prices can swing wildly and correct sharply. Apple stock is no stranger to painful pullbacks. Shares have dipped by 40% or more from the peak (12% currently, plus the nearly 30% decline expected by New Street) several times before, as the chart below suggests.\nFigure 2: Maximum drawdown in AAPL since IPO.\nBut quite a bit would have to go wrong, in my opinion, for AAPL to return to $90 ā levels not seen since the thick of the pandemic. From higher ASPs in 2021 to increased sales well past the peak of the stay-at-home buying spree, the iPhone seems to be experiencing a secular, not temporary increase in demand.\nWeakness in iPhone would likely need to come along muted results in other segments as well. In other words, Appleās troubles would have to be broader, rather than product specific. To me, this would only be possible under two key assumptions:\n\nThe post-pandemic āreturn to normalā will, indeed, cause discretionary spending to shift meaningfully away from tech devices and services ā which I am skeptical about;\nThe economy will endure a double-dip recession that cannot be remedied as well by fiscal and monetary stimuli āsomething that I also believe to be of low probability.\n\nAt the end of the day, AAPL $90 is possible ā just not highly likely, in my view.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":76,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":110658444,"gmtCreate":1622451560888,"gmtModify":1704184623068,"author":{"id":"3571919991986405","authorId":"3571919991986405","name":"ProsPaddles","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5743775abc150fab8749a749f0511b63","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3571919991986405","authorIdStr":"3571919991986405"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Alibaba(09988)$I told you it's coming!
