Chinese ride-hailing behemoth on Wednesday said it sold 316.8 million American depositary shares at $14 each, the top of its $13 to $14 price range. Four such shares represent one class A ordinary share. The company announced on Wednesday morning that it had increased the size of the deal; it had planned on offering 288 million shares.</p>\n<p>At $14 a share, Didi would have a $67 billion market capitalization. On a fully diluted basis, Didi’s valuation rises to about $73 billion</p>\n<p>The Beijing company has raised $4 billion in the offering. The shares will start trading on Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker DIDI.</p>\n<p>Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and J.P. Morgan are the underwriters on the Didi offering.</p>\n<p>Didi provides a smartphone app that lets users connect with vehicles and taxis for hire. Founded in 2012, it operates in nearly 4,000 cities, counties, and towns across 16 countries,its prospectus said. It had more than 493 million annual active users as of March 31.</p>\n<p><b>Its relationship with Uber is complicated</b></p>\n<p>Comparisons between the world’s top two ride-hailing companies could become more frequent as Didi goes public in the United States.</p>\n<p>In its filing, Didi said it has hundreds of millions of riders in China and operates in 16 countries and nearly 4,000 cities. Besides ride hailing, its new services include intra-city freight, community group buying and food delivery.</p>\n<p>In its 2020 annual report, San Francisco-based Uber said that as of Dec. 31, 2020, it operated in 71 countries and about 10,000 cities. Uber offers rides, delivery and freight. Although it unloaded its autonomous-vehicle business last year, it has a partnership with self-driving company Aurora Technologies.</p>\n<p>One thing Didi has in common with Uber (and smaller rival Lyft) is that it has also been mostly unprofitable. But it did turn a profit in the first quarter, reporting net income of 5.49 billion rembini ($837 million) on revenue of RMB 42.16 billion ($6.44 billion), up from a loss of RMB 3.97 billion on sales of RMB 20.47 billion the year before. That profit was largely due to its investments.</p>\n<p>After a battle in which Didi and Uber lost a lot of money as they tried to undercut each other in China, Uber sold its Chinese business to Didi for $7 billion in 2016. Uber’s CEO at the time, Travis Kalanick, wrote in a blog post announcing the deal: “Uber and Didi Chuxing are investing billions of dollars in China and both companies have yet to turn a profit there.”</p>\n<p>Uber retained a 12.8% stake in Didi, though, which will be reduced to a 12% stake after the IPO. That’s the second-largest stake in the company behind SoftBank Group’s 21.5% in equity ahead of the IPO. At the midpoint of Didi’s expected selling price, the number of shares Uber holds could be worth about $1.94 billion.</p>\n<p>Didi sold all the shares it held in Uber last year for a gain of RMB 2.8 million ($427,417), according to its filing.</p>\n<p><b>Insiders will have control</b></p>\n<p>Following the trend of many recent IPOs, especially in the tech world, Didi will have a dual-class stock structure. Each Class A share (equal to four ADS) will have one vote, and each Class B share will have 10 votes.</p>\n<p>Founder and Chief Executive Will Wei Cheng, co-founder and President Jean Qing Liu and CEO of the international business group Stephen Jingshi Zhu, who all sit on the board, will own all issued and outstanding Class B ordinary shares. These shares will comprise 9.8% of the company’s total issued shares and 52% of the voting power immediately after the public offering.</p>\n<p>Cheng, 38, is also the chairman of the board. The former Alibaba and Alipay manager will have 6.5% equity in the company but 35.5% of the voting power after the IPO.</p>\n<p>Cheng brought on Liu two years after he founded Didi. She will have 1.6% equity in the company after the offering.</p>\n<p>The other top stakeholder in Didi besides its top executives, SoftBank and Uber is Tencent Holdings, which will have a 6.4% stake post-IPO.</p>\n<p><b>‘Darkest days’</b></p>\n<p>In summer 2018, two female passengers were killed by drivers on Didi’s Hitch platform. “These shook us to our core,” Cheng and Liu wrote in their founders’ letter under a section they called “Our darkest days.”</p>\n<p>They said the company changed how it onboarded drivers and expanded background checks, as well as redesigned its technology with safety in mind. Didi also established what it calls a “SWAT team” to respond to safety incidents. In places where it is allowed, the company has installed video cameras in its ride-hailing vehicles.</p>\n<p>The changes led to what the company said was “a massive drop in the number of criminal incidents per million rides on our platform as well as significant declines in the number of in-car disputes and traffic accidents.”</p>\n<p>The company says that although the number of incidents have gone down, safety remains a risk factor.</p>\n<p><b>Risk factors</b></p>\n<p>Other big risk factors for the company include the Chinese government’s recently stepped-up antitrust crackdown on tech companies, including Didi. In its filing, Didi said that while it has completed a self-inspection and has tried to correct or improve in certain areas, it can’t be sure the government will be satisfied with that.</p>\n<p>The company also said government regulators are concerned about driver income, pricing, and fairness to all platform participants, including riders and drivers. Like its biggest competitors, Didi treats its drivers as independent contractors, not employees. “Our business would be adversely affected if drivers were classified as employees, workers or quasi-employees,” Didi said in its filing.</p>\n<p>As for how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected and continues to affect Didi’s business, the company said its core platform’s gross transaction value fell 4.8% in 2020 compared with 2019. In China, its mobility business’ GTV decreased 6.6% in the same period, while international GTV actually rose 11.4%. Didi cited increasing coronavirus cases in certain parts of the world as continuing risk factors.</p>\n<p><b>Other businesses</b></p>\n<p>Didi says it has the world’s largest network of electric vehicles on its platform: 1 million, including hybrids, as of the end of last year. Those EVs account for nearly 40% of the electric vehicle miles traveled in China, the company said, citing a study it commissioned. Didi has designed an EV itself, called the D1. It also says it has built China’s largest charging network, with more than 30% market share of total public charging volume in the first quarter of 2021.</p>\n<p>As for autonomous vehicles, Didi says it has a team of more than 500 members working on Level 4 AVs for its fleet. Four such shares represent one class A ordinary share. The company announced on Wednesday morning that it had increased the size of the deal; it had planned on offering 288 million shares.\nAt $14 a share, Didi would have a $67 billion market capitalization. On a fully diluted basis, Didi’s valuation rises to about $73 billion\nThe Beijing company has raised $4 billion in the offering. The shares will start trading on Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker DIDI.\nGoldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and J.P. Morgan are the underwriters on the Didi offering.\nDidi provides a smartphone app that lets users connect with vehicles and taxis for hire. Founded in 2012, it operates in nearly 4,000 cities, counties, and towns across 16 countries,its prospectus said. Each Class A share (equal to four ADS) will have one vote, and each Class B share will have 10 votes.\nFounder and Chief Executive Will Wei Cheng, co-founder and President Jean Qing Liu and CEO of the international business group Stephen Jingshi Zhu, who all sit on the board, will own all issued and outstanding Class B ordinary shares. These shares will comprise 9.8% of the company’s total issued shares and 52% of the voting power immediately after the public offering.\nCheng, 38, is also the chairman of the board. The former Alibaba and Alipay manager will have 6.5% equity in the company but 35.5% of the voting power after the IPO.\nCheng brought on Liu two years after he founded Didi. She will have 1.6% equity in the company after the offering.\nThe other top stakeholder in Didi besides its top executives, SoftBank and Uber is Tencent Holdings, which will have a 6.4% stake post-IPO.\n‘Darkest days’\nIn summer 2018, two female passengers were killed by drivers on Didi’s Hitch platform. “These shook us to our core,” Cheng and Liu wrote in their founders’ letter under a section they called “Our darkest days.”\nThey said the company changed how it onboarded drivers and expanded background checks, as well as redesigned its technology with safety in mind. Didi also established what it calls a “SWAT team” to respond to safety incidents. In places where it is allowed, the company has installed video cameras in its ride-hailing vehicles.\nThe changes led to what the company said was “a massive drop in the number of criminal incidents per million rides on our platform as well as significant declines in the number of in-car disputes and traffic accidents.”\nThe company says that although the number of incidents have gone down, safety remains a risk factor.\nRisk factors\nOther big risk factors for the company include the Chinese government’s recently stepped-up antitrust crackdown on tech companies, including Didi. In its filing, Didi said that while it has completed a self-inspection and has tried to correct or improve in certain areas, it can’t be sure the government will be satisfied with that.\nThe company also said government regulators are concerned about driver income, pricing, and fairness to all platform participants, including riders and drivers. Like its biggest competitors, Didi treats its drivers as independent contractors, not employees. “Our business would be adversely affected if drivers were classified as employees, workers or quasi-employees,” Didi said in its filing.\nAs for how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected and continues to affect Didi’s business, the company said its core platform’s gross transaction value fell 4.8% in 2020 compared with 2019. Consensus estimates among those tracking FedEx see earnings nearly doubling from year-ago levels, with revenue slated to rise at a healthy 24% pace.</p>\n<p>Indeed, in some ways,FedEx has too much of a good thing. Earlier this month, the company said it would cut service to some of its logistics customers who seek out less-than-truckload shipping services. The reason: Exceptionally strong demand was causing bottlenecks at key terminal locations that in turn were threatening to delay shipments. The issues aren't unique to FedEx, instead reflecting capacity constraints throughout the industry that are creating potential disruptions for customers seeking to get goods where they need to go.</p>\n<p>Investors will want to pay particularly close attention to any guidance that FedEx gives for its fiscal 2022 year. After having seen so much e-commerce activity drive pandemic-related gains, a return to more typical business conditions could create a temporary pause in FedEx's growth. Four such shares represent one class A ordinary share. The company announced on Wednesday morning that it had increased the size of the deal; it had planned on offering 288 million shares.</p>\n<p>At $14 a share, Didi would have a $67 billion market capitalization. On a fully diluted basis, Didi’s valuation rises to about $73 billion</p>\n<p>The Beijing company has raised $4 billion in the offering. The shares will start trading on Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker DIDI.</p>\n<p>Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and J.P. Morgan are the underwriters on the Didi offering.</p>\n<p>Didi provides a smartphone app that lets users connect with vehicles and taxis for hire. Founded in 2012, it operates in nearly 4,000 cities, counties, and towns across 16 countries,its prospectus said. It had more than 493 million annual active users as of March 31.</p>\n<p><b>Its relationship with Uber is complicated</b></p>\n<p>Comparisons between the world’s top two ride-hailing companies could become more frequent as Didi goes public in the United States.</p>\n<p>In its filing, Didi said it has hundreds of millions of riders in China and operates in 16 countries and nearly 4,000 cities. Besides ride hailing, its new services include intra-city freight, community group buying and food delivery.</p>\n<p>In its 2020 annual report, San Francisco-based Uber said that as of Dec. 31, 2020, it operated in 71 countries and about 10,000 cities. Uber offers rides, delivery and freight. Although it unloaded its autonomous-vehicle business last year, it has a partnership with self-driving company Aurora Technologies.</p>\n<p>One thing Didi has in common with Uber (and smaller rival Lyft) is that it has also been mostly unprofitable. But it did turn a profit in the first quarter, reporting net income of 5.49 billion rembini ($837 million) on revenue of RMB 42.16 billion ($6.44 billion), up from a loss of RMB 3.97 billion on sales of RMB 20.47 billion the year before. That profit was largely due to its investments.</p>\n<p>After a battle in which Didi and Uber lost a lot of money as they tried to undercut each other in China, Uber sold its Chinese business to Didi for $7 billion in 2016. Uber’s CEO at the time, Travis Kalanick, wrote in a blog post announcing the deal: “Uber and Didi Chuxing are investing billions of dollars in China and both companies have yet to turn a profit there.”</p>\n<p>Uber retained a 12.8% stake in Didi, though, which will be reduced to a 12% stake after the IPO. That’s the second-largest stake in the company behind SoftBank Group’s 21.5% in equity ahead of the IPO. At the midpoint of Didi’s expected selling price, the number of shares Uber holds could be worth about $1.94 billion.</p>\n<p>Didi sold all the shares it held in Uber last year for a gain of RMB 2.8 million ($427,417), according to its filing.</p>\n<p><b>Insiders will have control</b></p>\n<p>Following the trend of many recent IPOs, especially in the tech world, Didi will have a dual-class stock structure. Each Class A share (equal to four ADS) will have one vote, and each Class B share will have 10 votes.</p>\n<p>Founder and Chief Executive Will Wei Cheng, co-founder and President Jean Qing Liu and CEO of the international business group Stephen Jingshi Zhu, who all sit on the board, will own all issued and outstanding Class B ordinary shares. These shares will comprise 9.8% of the company’s total issued shares and 52% of the voting power immediately after the public offering.</p>\n<p>Cheng, 38, is also the chairman of the board. The former Alibaba and Alipay manager will have 6.5% equity in the company but 35.5% of the voting power after the IPO.</p>\n<p>Cheng brought on Liu two years after he founded Didi. She will have 1.6% equity in the company after the offering.</p>\n<p>The other top stakeholder in Didi besides its top executives, SoftBank and Uber is Tencent Holdings, which will have a 6.4% stake post-IPO.</p>\n<p><b>‘Darkest days’</b></p>\n<p>In summer 2018, two female passengers were killed by drivers on Didi’s Hitch platform. “These shook us to our core,” Cheng and Liu wrote in their founders’ letter under a section they called “Our darkest days.”</p>\n<p>They said the company changed how it onboarded drivers and expanded background checks, as well as redesigned its technology with safety in mind. Didi also established what it calls a “SWAT team” to respond to safety incidents. In places where it is allowed, the company has installed video cameras in its ride-hailing vehicles.</p>\n<p>The changes led to what the company said was “a massive drop in the number of criminal incidents per million rides on our platform as well as significant declines in the number of in-car disputes and traffic accidents.”</p>\n<p>The company says that although the number of incidents have gone down, safety remains a risk factor.</p>\n<p><b>Risk factors</b></p>\n<p>Other big risk factors for the company include the Chinese government’s recently stepped-up antitrust crackdown on tech companies, including Didi. In its filing, Didi said that while it has completed a self-inspection and has tried to correct or improve in certain areas, it can’t be sure the government will be satisfied with that.</p>\n<p>The company also said government regulators are concerned about driver income, pricing, and fairness to all platform participants, including riders and drivers. Like its biggest competitors, Didi treats its drivers as independent contractors, not employees. “Our business would be adversely affected if drivers were classified as employees, workers or quasi-employees,” Didi said in its filing.</p>\n<p>As for how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected and continues to affect Didi’s business, the company said its core platform’s gross transaction value fell 4.8% in 2020 compared with 2019. In China, its mobility business’ GTV decreased 6.6% in the same period, while international GTV actually rose 11.4%. Didi cited increasing coronavirus cases in certain parts of the world as continuing risk factors.</p>\n<p><b>Other businesses</b></p>\n<p>Didi says it has the world’s largest network of electric vehicles on its platform: 1 million, including hybrids, as of the end of last year. Those EVs account for nearly 40% of the electric vehicle miles traveled in China, the company said, citing a study it commissioned. Didi has designed an EV itself, called the D1. It also says it has built China’s largest charging network, with more than 30% market share of total public charging volume in the first quarter of 2021.</p>\n<p>As for autonomous vehicles, Didi says it has a team of more than 500 members working on Level 4 AVs for its fleet. Besides ride hailing, its new services include intra-city freight, community group buying and food delivery.</p>\n<p>In its 2020 annual report, San Francisco-based Uber said that as of Dec. 31, 2020, it operated in 71 countries and about 10,000 cities. Uber offers rides, delivery and freight. Although it unloaded its autonomous-vehicle business last year, it has a partnership with self-driving company Aurora Technologies.</p>\n<p>One thing Didi has in common with Uber (and smaller rival Lyft) is that it has also been mostly unprofitable. But it did turn a profit in the first quarter, reporting net income of 5.49 billion rembini ($837 million) on revenue of RMB 42.16 billion ($6.44 billion), up from a loss of RMB 3.97 billion on sales of RMB 20.47 billion the year before. That profit was largely due to its investments.</p>\n<p>After a battle in which Didi and Uber lost a lot of money as they tried to undercut each other in China, Uber sold its Chinese business to Didi for $7 billion in 2016. Uber’s CEO at the time, Travis Kalanick, wrote in a blog post announcing the deal: “Uber and Didi Chuxing are investing billions of dollars in China and both companies have yet to turn a profit there.”</p>\n<p>Uber retained a 12.8% stake in Didi, though, which will be reduced to a 12% stake after the IPO. That’s the second-largest stake in the company behind SoftBank Group’s 21.5% in equity ahead of the IPO. At the midpoint of Didi’s expected selling price, the number of shares Uber holds could be worth about $1.94 billion.</p>\n<p>Didi sold all the shares it held in Uber last year for a gain of RMB 2.8 million ($427,417), according to its filing.</p>\n<p><b>Insiders will have control</b></p>\n<p>Following the trend of many recent IPOs, especially in the tech world, Didi will have a dual-class stock structure. Each Class A share (equal to four ADS) will have one vote, and each Class B share will have 10 votes.</p>\n<p>Founder and Chief Executive Will Wei Cheng, co-founder and President Jean Qing Liu and CEO of the international business group Stephen Jingshi Zhu, who all sit on the board, will own all issued and outstanding Class B ordinary shares. These shares will comprise 9.8% of the company’s total issued shares and 52% of the voting power immediately after the public offering.</p>\n<p>Cheng, 38, is also the chairman of the board. The former Alibaba and Alipay manager will have 6.5% equity in the company but 35.5% of the voting power after the IPO.</p>\n<p>Cheng brought on Liu two years after he founded Didi. She will have 1.6% equity in the company after the offering.</p>\n<p>The other top stakeholder in Didi besides its top executives, SoftBank and Uber is Tencent Holdings, which will have a 6.4% stake post-IPO.</p>\n<p><b>‘Darkest days’</b></p>\n<p>In summer 2018, two female passengers were killed by drivers on Didi’s Hitch platform. “These shook us to our core,” Cheng and Liu wrote in their founders’ letter under a section they called “Our darkest days.”</p>\n<p>They said the company changed how it onboarded drivers and expanded background checks, as well as redesigned its technology with safety in mind. Didi also established what it calls a “SWAT team” to respond to safety incidents. In places where it is allowed, the company has installed video cameras in its ride-hailing vehicles.</p>\n<p>The changes led to what the company said was “a massive drop in the number of criminal incidents per million rides on our platform as well as significant declines in the number of in-car disputes and traffic accidents.”</p>\n<p>The company says that although the number of incidents have gone down, safety remains a risk factor.</p>\n<p><b>Risk factors</b></p>\n<p>Other big risk factors for the company include the Chinese government’s recently stepped-up antitrust crackdown on tech companies, including Didi. Both will have major implications not just for their own shareholders but for those following the broader economy as well.</p>\n<p>Delivering for investors?</p>\n<p>FedEx is set to report its latest results on Thursday, June 24. Investors are expecting big things from the company, but a lot more will depend on what FedEx says about what the future will bring.</p>\n<p>Given the hit that FedEx took this time last year, it should come as little surprise that those following the delivery giant are looking for a major rebound. Consensus estimates among those tracking FedEx see earnings nearly doubling from year-ago levels, with revenue slated to rise at a healthy 24% pace.</p>\n<p>Indeed, in some ways,FedEx has too much of a good thing. Earlier this month, the company said it would cut service to some of its logistics customers who seek out less-than-truckload shipping services. The reason: Exceptionally strong demand was causing bottlenecks at key terminal locations that in turn were threatening to delay shipments. The issues aren't unique to FedEx, instead reflecting capacity constraints throughout the industry that are creating potential disruptions for customers seeking to get goods where they need to go.</p>\n<p>Investors will want to pay particularly close attention to any guidance that FedEx gives for its fiscal 2022 year. After having seen so much e-commerce activity drive pandemic-related gains, a return to more typical business conditions could create a temporary pause in FedEx's growth. How much that appears in projections could in turn say a lot about whether the stock can return to its former upward trajectory.</p>\n<p>Doing it</p>\n<p>Nike is also slated to release its financial results on Thursday morning. Investors hope to see a significant reversal from last year's painful experience.</p>\n<p>Nike appears to be ready to get back on trackwith its quarterly results. Revenue is expected to soar more than 75% from year-ago levels, which reflected store closures and other disruptions related to the pandemic. Nike's earnings will likely reverse year-ago losses, although bottom-line performance is still in the process of recovering from more difficult conditions.</p>\n<p>The big question is how a couple of key aspects of Nike's business will balance out. On one hand, demand is soaring both in Nike's home North American market and overseas in key places like China. That could help support revenue and profit gains into the coming fiscal year. At the same time, though, prices for materials have been on the rise, and that in turn could present challenges to profit margins.</p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Nike is looking to put its marketing machine to the test, with plenty of new product launches designed to stoke demand and give consumers a place to spend their savings. The success of those launches could well define the course of Nike's fiscal 2022, and that in turn could determine whether the stock can climb further after sizable gains over the past year or so.</p>\n<p>Be ready</p>\n<p>With so much uncertainty in the markets, key earnings reports can make or break the future direction for stocks. Later this week, delivery specialist FedEx(NYSE:FDX)and athletic apparel giant Nike(NYSE:NKE)will give their latest readings on their corporate results. Both will have major implications not just for their own shareholders but for those following the broader economy as well.\nDelivering for investors?\nFedEx is set to report its latest results on Thursday, June 24. Investors are expecting big things from the company, but a lot more will depend on what FedEx says about what the future will bring.\nGiven the hit that FedEx took this time last year, it should come as little surprise that those following the delivery giant are looking for a major rebound. Consensus estimates among those tracking FedEx see earnings nearly doubling from year-ago levels, with revenue slated to rise at a healthy 24% pace.\nIndeed, in some ways,FedEx has too much of a good thing. Earlier this month, the company said it would cut service to some of its logistics customers who seek out less-than-truckload shipping services. The reason: Exceptionally strong demand was causing bottlenecks at key terminal locations that in turn were threatening to delay shipments. The issues aren't unique to FedEx, instead reflecting capacity constraints throughout the industry that are creating potential disruptions for customers seeking to get goods where they need to go.\nInvestors will want to pay particularly close attention to any guidance that FedEx gives for its fiscal 2022 year. After having seen so much e-commerce activity drive pandemic-related gains, a return to more typical business conditions could create a temporary pause in FedEx's growth. How much that appears in projections could in turn say a lot about whether the stock can return to its former upward trajectory.\nDoing it\nNike is also slated to release its financial results on Thursday morning. If and when the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden and the Iranian government agree a deal that results in the lifting of sanctions, Iran plans to increase output to 3.8 million barrels per day (bpd) from the current 2.1 million bpd, according to oil ministry officials.\nThat would return the country’s production level to where it was before the sanctions, but would take time because of years of low investment in mature oilfields and heavily reduced output.\nAs a stopgap measure while it works on boosting production, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) is expected to export from onshore and offshore storage that contains as much as 200 million barrel, according to energy consultancy and monitoring firms.\nThis could allow the country to export an extra 1 million bpd, or 1% of global supply, for more than six months.\n\"Iran will be using its nearly 60 million barrels of crude inventory, of which 30-35 million barrels are built during the past two years, within a few months of sanctions removal,\" said Iman Nasseri, managing director for the Middle East with FGE consultancy.\nAn increase of 1 million bpd of Iranian crude would put downward pressure on benchmark global oil prices, but investment bank Goldman Sachs said last month that the global oil market should be able to absorb the additional supply relatively quickly.\nFuel demand is rising as global economic activity recovers from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and OPEC producers and their allies have been cautious about increasing supply to the market in part to avoid a shock should Iranian supply return.\n\"From a macro perspective, a return of Iranian barrels to the market should not derail OPEC+ intentions to gradually increase production as long as demand in Europe and the United States continues to recover,\" said Florian Thaler, the CEO and co-founder of consultancy OilX.\nPREPARING FOR AN EXPORT RESTART\nIran has boosted the volume of crude it has stored on oil tankers in recent months, according to data intelligence firm Kpler, in what may be a preparation for a restart to exports. Some of those tankers are already in Asia, historically the biggest market for Iran’s oil.\n\"We currently estimate around 78 million barrels of oil and condensate are stored on water and this compares against only 41 million barrels at the same time last year,\" said Homayoun Falakshahi, a senior analyst at Kpler.\n\"A lot of tankers are already parked close to East Asian markets, so it could be a question of days,\" he added.\nTankers holding 8 million barrels of Iranian oil including condensate were using waters outside Singapore's coast to carry out transfers when needed, two shipping sources said.\nIran reduced exports to China in April and May and pumped more into storage, perhaps with the aim of selling it at a higher price when sanctions are lifted, a senior Chinese trader said.\nIranian oil in floating storage stood at between 50 million and 60 million barrels according to estimates from consultancies FGE, IHS Markit and OilX.\nFGE and OilX said most of Iranian floating storage was condensate, a preferred feedstock for petrochemical plants in China, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.\nAccording to FGE, Iran has around 120 million barrels of crude and condensate in on-land storage, almost one third of it in overseas storage facilities, mainly in China.\nTwo Western trade sources said there was between 20 to 30 million barrels of storage space in that region of China earmarked for Iranian oil.\nA handful of mostly privately controlled Chinese companies which have stepped into the market over the past two years have been leasing up land storage in the eastern province of Shandong - China’s hub for independent refineries- and northeast China’s Liaoning province, said a Chinese trader close to some of these firms. At least 13 million barrels of storage space are dedicated to storing Iranian oil, the trader estimated.\nPREPARING FOR RESTART\nExpecting a deal in coming weeks or months, NIOC's marketing division has been in contact with historical customers.\nAt least one European refiner has held in-depth discussions with NIOC on resuming purchases and Indian refiners say they plan to reduce spot purchases to make way for Iranian contract barrels.\nChinese and Indian firms, and European consumers such as Saras, Eni and Repsol are expected to show interest in Iranian barrels, according to Falakshahi.\nIranian officials are optimistic they can increase production quickly, and one senior Iranian oil ministry official said earlier this month that most output could be restored within a month.
