inched up 1% year on year to S$451 million.</p><p>SGX also paid out a dividend of S$0.32 for FY2022, giving its shares a trailing dividend yield of 3.5%.</p><p>For FY2023, SGX expects its capital expenditure to be between S$70 million to S$75 million as it spends to enhance its platform and system architecture.</p><p>Its foreign exchange over-the-counter division has also grown, contributing the pandemic when it reported anet profitof S$4 billion for FY2021.</p><p>The lender is also riding high on surging interest rates to report a 39% year on year surge in its net interest income (NII) for the third quarter of fiscal 2022 (3Q2022).</p><p>In line with its strong results, UOB paid out an interim dividend of S$0.60 this year.</p><p>Together with its S$0.60 final dividend in FY2021, the trailing 12-month dividend came up to S$1.20, giving its shares a trailing 12-month dividend yield of 4%.</p><p>The US Federal Reserve is expected to continue hiking interest rates in 2023, though at a slower pace.</p><p>UOB should benefit from these higher rates that will boost its NII.</p><p>The bank has also completed its acquisition of <b>Citigroup’s</b> (NYSE: C) consumer banking businesses engineering and technology conglomerate serving the aerospace, smart city, and defence sectors.</p><p>This stalwart has been steadily growing its order book over the past three years.</p><p>STE’s order book has grown from S$15.3 billion in FY2019 to S$25 billion at the end of September 2022.</p><p>In 3Q2022 alone, the engineering giant clinched S$4.8 billion of new contracts across the commercial aerospace and public security segments.</p><p>It also declared and paid out a quarterly dividend of S$0.04, bringing its annualised dividend per share to S$0.16.</p><p>Shares of STE offer a forward dividend yield of 4.3%.</p><p>Elsewhere, the group also clinched a US$1.07 billion contract to modernise toll collection systems in New Jersey, USA.</p><p><b>CapitaLand Investment Limited (SGX: 9CI)</b></p><p>CapitaLand Investment Limited, or CLI, is a real estate investment manager (REIM) with around S$130 billion of assets under management (AUM) and about S$86 billion of funds under management (FUM) as of 30 September 2022.</p><p>The REIM has been growing its fee-related earnings (FRE) for the first nine months of 2022 (9M2022).</p><p>FRE grew by 19% year on year to S$339 million for 9M2022.</p><p>CLI’s lodging division also enjoyed a strong recovery as borders reopened, posting FRE of S$190 million, up 48% year on year.</p><p>The group also grew the number of units in its Let&#39;s break it down.</p><h2>Content rules everything</h2><p>With the global streaming market expected to be worth almost $81 billion in 2022, competition among streamers has never been more intense. To contend with each other, the companies know they have to churn out movies and TV shows that people want to watch on a frequent cycle. This means content budgets have become somewhat of a yardstick for the streaming platforms and their ambitions.</p><p>Netflix committed $17 billion to new content this year, a figure it expects to spend again in 2023. Speaking on the company&#39;s recent fiscal 2022 third-quarter earnings, co-CEO Ted Sarandos suggested the figure was about right for Netflix. &#34;I feel better and better about that $17 billion of content spend because what we have to do is be better and better at getting more impact per billion dollar spent than anyone else,&#34; he said.</p><p>Sarandos also confirmed the streamer will spend at the same rate in 2023, but suggested Netflix could &#34;revisit that number&#34; as revenue increases.</p><p>Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly planned to spend more than $18 billion on content this year, though that figure precedes the April merger that established the company. Since that time, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has focused on finding $3 billion worth of cuts, which has led to the shutdown of HBO Max productions in parts of Europe and the closure of CNN+ mere weeks after it launched.</p><p>&#34;We will not overspend to drive subscriber growth,&#34; said Zaslav soon after the formation of Warner Bros. Discovery. Instead, Zaslav suggested, the company would rely more on its deep programming library, suggesting those who &#34;produce and control the content [intellectual property] versus those that just write checks, are positioned to win.&#34;</p><h2>Chasing other businesses</h2><p>Netflix has made overtures that it too understands the value in owning intellectual properties. The company has leveraged its popular <i>Stranger Things</i> series to produce several tie-in games for iOS and Android devices, offered exclusively to Netflix subscribers. And while the strategy has seemingly yet to take off (less than 1% of Netflix customers reportedly downloaded its games), the streamer has made clear it intends to continue along this path.</p><p>Earlier this year, the streamer revealed it was working on several subscriber-only games inspired by Netflix Originals, including <i>Shadow and Bone: Destinies</i> and an action title based on <i>Money Heist</i>. The streamer has also confirmed it is looking at going beyond mobile titles and getting into the cloud gaming space, which would pit it directly against companies such as <b>Microsoft</b> and <b>Nvidia</b>.</p><p>Netflix has not discussed how much it is investing in its gaming operation, but it has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to acquire several game studios. Netflix says gaming is a &#34;top priority,&#34; claiming it is a key part of its long-term growth strategy.</p><p>Warner Bros. Discovery is also in the gaming space, serving as the parent company of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The subsidiary oversees several game studios, including Rocksteady Studios (maker of <i>Batman: Arkham Knight</i>) and NetherRealm Studios (<i>Injustice: Gods Among Us</i> and <i>Injustice 2</i>).</p><p>Unlike Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery has a more traditional approach to its games -- distributing titles via third-party platforms and across a range of devices such as consoles, PCs, and smartphones.</p><p>This tactic is more in line with Warner Bros. Discovery&#39;s structure: It is a media conglomerate with a streaming arm, rather than a streamer with ancillary businesses. This differentiation gives Warner Bros. Discovery more breathing space should one of its businesses struggle. Netflix, on the other hand, has more exposure because it has directly tied future subscriber numbers to its success in the gaming arena.</p><p>While Netflix&#39;s approach is perhaps more risky than Warner Bros. Discovery&#39;s, it&#39;s the better option for investors looking for long-term bets. Netflix&#39;s spending is about attracting more subscribers, which directly equates to more and more recurring revenue.</p><p>Under Zaslav, Warner Bros. Discovery is focused on reducing costs and leveraging what it already owns. But can F stock continue this trajectory?</p><p>The U.S.-based automotive company turned in an incredible performance in 2021 and its stock price more than doubled, finishing the year at $20.77 per share. This rally continued in the first two weeks of 2022, as the F stock market capitalization advanced another 24.5%. The share price reached a 10-year high of $25.87 per share.</p><p>This strong performance has been attributable to the acceleration of Ford’selectric vehicle offerings and management’s healthy handling of supply shortages compared to its peers.</p><p>But since then, Ford’s shares plunged more than 20%, as the whole market pulled back and investors started pricing in the impacts of rising interest rates on the company’s enormous debt.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/037f7a36ec7da40590ff4c82968faeb9\" tg-width=\"1024\" tg-height=\"577\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/>Source: Charts by TradingView</p><p>Despite that, Ford shares dropped 4.1% year-to-date and have slightly outperformed the broader market. In the same period, the <b>S&amp;P 500 Index</b>(NYSEARCA:<b><u>SPY</u></b>), retreated 8.8%.</p><p><b>F Stock’s Fundamentals Look Solid but Debt Remains High</b></p><p>In 2021, the automaker’s sales are expected to increase robustly, up 9.2% year-on-year to$126.8 billion, and are estimated to accelerate by 16% to $146.8 billion in 2022, corresponding to a healthy net margin of 5.12%.</p><p>Moreover, the company’s bottom line is on an upward trend. Net income is anticipated to bounce next year by 14.2% to $7.52 billion, and by 15.9% to $8.71 billion in 2023.</p><p>More interestingly, Ford has managed to reduce net debt in 2021. Net debt reached $117.1 billion in the third quarter 2021, down 5.5% quarter-on-quarter and is down 14.9% year-on-year. This bodes well for the company in this rising interest rates environment. Besides, F stock recently announced that it redeemed “more than $7.6 billion in high-cost debt in the fourth quarter,” reducing the company’s interest expense and therefore strengthening its balance sheet.</p><p>That being said, the company’s leverage ratio established at 5.89x at the end of the third quarter, which remains high especially in this rising interest rate environment.</p><p><b>F Stock Valuation Is Stretched Compared to Its Peers</b></p><p>Compared to pure electric vehicle players of the industry, Ford’s valuation metrics look cheap. The automaker currently trades at 10.29x estimated 2022 earnings per share and at 2022 EV/EBITDA of only 5.57x.</p><p>On the other side, <b>Tesla’s</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>TSLA</u></b>) 2022 P/E ratio is overstretched, with a ratio of 115x, whereas the electric vehicle’s EV/EBITDA stands a 51.1x. Nevertheless, if we look at traditional automakers that are also adding EV production capacity,<b>GM</b>(NYSE:<b><u>GM</u></b>) trades at a discount in terms of 2022 P/E, with a ratio of 7.76x, whereas <b>Volkswagen</b> is nearly twice as devaluated as F stock, exchanging at only 5.74x of its 2022e P/E.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/85f21a29243faed07ed5569e3c27113b\" tg-width=\"1024\" tg-height=\"490\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><b>I See More Downside Than Upside in F Stock</b></p><p>Ford Motor will release its Q4 2021 earnings report on Feb. 3. In the last three quarters, the automaker beat analysts’ earnings and revenue estimates. This constructive streak is likely to continue, as the company posted in its mid-January release and pointed out strong Q4 sales figures in China, which were up 11.9% quarter-on-quarter to 167,000 units.</p><p>Yet recently, concerns about rising interest rates have weighed on F’s stock performance, which is not surprising given Ford’s excessive leverage ratio. In my opinion, these headwinds are likely to endure in the near term, as investors turn towards companies with strong pricing power. Besides, F stock is trading at a premium compared to its traditional automotive peers, indicating that the stock’s correction might not be over.
