Stocks roared back Tuesday and were up again Wednesday.
\n
Yes, the Delta variant of Covid-19 has led to an alarming uptick in coronavirus cases in the United States and around the globe. Nio stock reversed lower.","content":"
Nio plans a vast expansion of EV battery swapping stations as competition with Tesla heats up. Nio stock opened higher but reversed lower.
\n
The Chinese EV startup plans to add at least 3,700 battery-swap stations for electric vehicles by 2025 after building around 300 so far, it said at an inaugural Power Day event Friday. Around 1,000 of the total will be installed outside of China, Bloomberg said. Nio's expanding in Norway, where Tesla dominates.
\n
Nio sees battery swapping as a key differentiator. Tesla, the luxury EV leader in China that Nio's taking on, relies on fast-charging stations for EV recharging. Tesla ditched battery swap technology years ago.
\n
At the same time, Nio announced it will build more charging stations after selling around 120,000 EVs since deliveries first began in June 2018. Tesla has 850 Supercharger stations in China.
\n
At battery swap stations, Nio's customers can rapidly get their battery exchanged for a fresh one rather than a long wait to recharge their electric vehicle. Last October, Nio announced its millionth battery swap.
\n
In June, Nio's EV sales in China rose 20% month over month while Tesla's June sales in the country fell month over month. And Nio more than doubled June sales year over year.
\n
EV sales at Nio are fueled by its popular and innovative \"battery as a service\" program, whereby customers buy the car and lease the battery for cost savings. But Tesla isn't sitting idle.
\n
On Thursday, Tesla debuted a version of its made-in-Shanghai Model Y that is cheaper after government subsidies than its direct competitor, Nio's ES6 SUV.
\n
Nio Stock, EV Stocks
\n
Shares of Nio fell 1.8% to 44.76 on the stock market today, after initially popping to 47.01 soon after the open. Big drops can be scary.
\n
But dumping stocks on days when the Dow is getting whacked is usually the wrong thing to do. Stocks roared back Tuesday and were up again Wednesday.
\n
Yes, the Delta variant of Covid-19 has led to an alarming uptick in coronavirus cases in the United States and around the globe. But many experts think the massive number of vaccinations that have already taken place will prevent the economy and markets from going into another tailspin.
\n
If you're investing for the long haul, the best thing you can do is ride out this wave of volatility.
\n
\"Stay invested,\" said Seema Shah, chief strategist at Principal Global Investors. Shah told CNN Business that the Delta variant is highly unlikely to stop the economic recovery in the US and other parts of the developed world where vaccination rates are high.
\n
\"The vaccine is effective,\" she said. \"If cases are rising but hospitalization rates remain low, then the reopening measures from governments will continue.\"
\n
Still, Shah conceded, investors should be more selective. After all, the S&P 500 has nearly doubled from its pandemic lows in March 2020, and not all stocks and sectors will maintain their momentum.
\n
She thinks defensive sectors might start to pull back a bit. Big drops can be scary.\nBut dumping stocks on days when the Dow is getting whacked is usually the wrong thing to do. Stocks roared back Tuesday and were up again Wednesday.\nYes, the Delta variant of Covid-19 has led to an alarming uptick in coronavirus cases in the United States and around the globe. But many experts think the massive number of vaccinations that have already taken place will prevent the economy and markets from going into another tailspin.\nIf you're investing for the long haul, the best thing you can do is ride out this wave of volatility.\n\"Stay invested,\" said Seema Shah, chief strategist at Principal Global Investors. Shah told CNN Business that the Delta variant is highly unlikely to stop the economic recovery in the US and other parts of the developed world where vaccination rates are high.\n\"The vaccine is effective,\" she said. \"If cases are rising but hospitalization rates remain low, then the reopening measures from governments will continue.\"\nStill, Shah conceded, investors should be more selective. After all, the S&P 500 has nearly doubled from its pandemic lows in March 2020, and not all stocks and sectors will maintain their momentum.\nShe thinks defensive sectors might start to pull back a bit. Those include utilities, health care and others companies that pay big dividends and are considered good bond proxies.\nThe FAANGs and other big tech stocks, many of which have strong earnings momentum and tons of cash, should continue to rally, she said.\nNot the time to bail on the market\nSo should economic recovery plays in the travel and retail sectors that have pulled back lately on Covid concerns.
Citibank analyst Jeff Chung raised the bank's price target on NIO to $72, from $58.30, while reiterating his previous buy rating on the shares.
\n
Chung wrote that he expects NIO to report \"robust shipment volume\" for June, which he thinks will be followed by sequential quarter-over-quarter growth in the third and fourth quarters of 2021. He now sees NIO delivering 93,000 vehicles in 2021, up from his earlier estimate of 90,000, and has raised his forecasts for 2022 and 2024 while also increasing his target price-to-earnings multiple for NIO's shares.
\n
NIO typically releases its monthly delivery totals shortly after month-end, meaning we could see NIO's results for June as soon as Thursday morning. The company's guidance, which it reiterated earlier this month, calls for a delivery total of between 21,000 and 22,000 vehicles for the second quarter. rates
\n
* Asian stock markets:
\n
June 30 (Reuters) - Singapore stocks were poised for their biggest daily gain in over a month on Wednesday after the central bank said growth could exceed expectations this year on strengthening global demand and progress in the country's vaccination drive.
\n
The FTSE Strait Times index in Singapore rose as much as 1.6% after the central bank said growth could exceed the upper end of the official 4%-6% forecast range this year.
\n
Sentiment was further supported by government data
\n
showing a recent fall in daily coronavirus cases and local media reports of a ramp up in the vaccination process, said Mitul Kotecha, chief EM Asia and Europe strategist at TD Securities.
\n
\"The picture is getting constructive with respect to the virus in Singapore,\" said Kotecha.
\n
The situation in Singapore helped its equities outperform largely tepid stock markets across the rest of Southeast Asia, as the region continues to face a burgeoning coronavirus crisis.
\n
Philippine stocks declined 0.3%, a day after the nation extended curbs on movement and businesses in the capital Manila and nearby provinces until mid-July and retained stricter COVID-19 curbs in some other parts.
\n
Still, the index was set to gain over 4.6% for the month.
\n
Thailand stocks added to Tuesday's gains to hit a one-week high, after falling for eight straight sessions, and were set to add 0.7% for the June quarter.
\n
Thailand's tourism- reliant economy, which has been hit by a collapse in foreign visitors, could find some respite in its auto sector, with the value of car exports tipped to surge to a record this year.
\n
Indonesian stocks continued to recuperate from Monday's 1% drop, even as the country battles a raging virus surge.
\n
Most emerging Asian currencies were subdued, with the rupiah and South Korea's won weakening slightly.
\n
A dip in China's June factory activity to a four-month low did little to affect sentiment, while data showing a rise in U.S. consumer confidence overnight boosted a gauge of global equities to near record highs.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n<meta name=\"viewport\"
