Fool","summary":"Nvidia GPUs dominate the AI chip market. These players are hoping to change that.","content":"

Nvidia's processors are the gold standard for training and running AI systems.

Rivals and customers alike have been scrambling to develop competing solutions.

There was a flurry of announcements detailing offerings by Intel, Alphabet, and Meta Platforms.

If there is one stock that exemplifies the potential to profit from artificial intelligence (AI), it would have to be Nvidia. The company pioneered the graphics processing unit (GPU) that rendered lifelike images in video games. What makes these chips so effective is parallel processing, which takes computationally complex jobs and breaks them up into smaller, more manageable chunks. Nvidia was able to adapt this technology to handle the rigors of AI, making it arguably the most successful company in the AI chip space.

However, as demand for AI has accelerated, numerous technology stalwarts have been working furiously behind the scenes to come up with viable alternatives to Nvidia's industry-leading processors. This week saw a number of announcements as rivals unveiled the fruit of these efforts.

Let's take a look at three.

1. Intel

Intel unveiled its latest AI chip, dubbed Gaudi 3, in a direct challenge to Nvidia's GPU dominance. The company claims that Gaudi can train AI models nearly twice as fast as Nvidia's H100 flagship data center processor and 50% faster for inference -- running AI models that have already been trained. The company also said Gaudi delivered all that performance with 40% better power efficiency than the H100 "at a fraction of the cost," according to Intel.

It's important to note that Nvidia recently unveiled the successor to its H100, its Blackwell B200 AI GPU, which will begin shipping later this year. While Gaudi wasn't compared to the B200, the company said, "We do expect it to be highly competitive" against Nvidia's latest processor, calling Gaudi "a strong offering."

Intel is likely not looking to outperform Nvidia's most recent AI chips but rather offer enterprises a cheaper alternative. It's also worth noting that there's been an ongoing shortage of Nvidia's H100 and H200 chips, creating a bottleneck in AI adoption. Intel's latest offering could help alleviate the backlog.

2. Meta Platforms

Meta Platforms announced the Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) v2, a custom AI chip that runs in the company's data centers. Meta announced that the latest version of its MTIA "more than doubles the compute and memory bandwidth" of its predecessor. Early results suggest the new processor performs three times better than the first version.

Meta noted that it's trying to provide "the right balance of compute, memory bandwidth, and memory capacity" with its latest chip. The company isn't using these chips for AI processing; at least, not yet. Meta is using the processors to improve the speed and efficiency of its ranking and recommendation systems, used to surface relevant content on its social media sites and target advertising.

Meta is one of Nvidia's biggest customers, so if it is successful in its AI chip efforts, the company could reduce its dependency on Nvidia's AI processors.

3. Alphabet

At the Google Cloud Next event, Alphabet announced the availability of Cloud Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) v5p, the latest version of its AI-centric processor. The company said its Cloud TPU can train large language models (LLMs) -- which underpin AI systems -- three times faster than version 4.

As is generally the case, Google's TPUs won't be sold but will be available on Google Cloud later this year.

However, in a blog post, Google noted that it's expanding its Nvidia GPU capabilities with the addition of the A3 Mega Supercomputer, which is powered by Nvidia H100 GPUs. Google Cloud customers will also have access to virtual machines (VM) featuring Nvidia's Blackwell B200 and Grace Blackwell GB200 GPUs.

Google also unveiled Axion, its first data center central processing unit (CPU), designed in conjunction with Arm Holdings. Google says Axion is 30% faster than the leading CPU, with 50% better performance and 62% greater efficiency than x86 chips from Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD).

An important takeaway for Nvidia investors

While Intel intends to compete directly with Nvidia for a piece of the AI chip market, Meta Platforms and Alphabet are developing their own AI chips for specific purposes, either in-house or for cloud customers. Furthermore, while Intel claims its AI-centric chips can compete head-to-head with Nvidia's flagship processors, Nvidia has already moved on and will soon be shipping the next version of its state-of-the-art AI processors.

This helps highlight Nvidia's enviable position in the industry -- its rivals are always playing catch-up. This week saw a number of announcements as rivals unveiled the fruit of these efforts.Let's take a look at three.Image source: Getty Images.1. IntelIntel unveiled its latest AI chip, dubbed Gaudi 3, in a direct challenge to Nvidia's GPU dominance. The company claims that Gaudi can train AI models nearly twice as fast as Nvidia's H100 flagship data center processor and 50% faster for inference -- running AI models that have already been trained. The company also said Gaudi delivered all that performance with 40% better power efficiency than the H100 \"at a fraction of the cost,\" according to Intel. It's important to note that Nvidia recently unveiled the successor to its H100, its Blackwell B200 AI GPU, which will begin shipping later this year. While Gaudi wasn't compared to the B200, the company said, \"We do expect it to be highly competitive\" against Nvidia's latest processor, calling Gaudi \"a strong offering.\"Intel is likely not looking to outperform Nvidia's most recent AI chips but rather offer enterprises a cheaper alternative. It's also worth noting that there's been an ongoing shortage of Nvidia's H100 and H200 chips, creating a bottleneck in AI adoption. Intel's latest offering could help alleviate the backlog.2. Meta PlatformsMeta Platforms announced the Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) v2, a custom AI chip that runs in the company's data centers. Meta announced that the latest version of its MTIA \"more than doubles the compute and memory bandwidth\" of its predecessor. Early results suggest the new processor performs three times better than the first version.Meta noted that it's trying to provide \"the right balance of compute, memory bandwidth, and memory capacity\" with its latest chip. The company isn't using these chips for AI processing; at least, not yet. Meta is using the processors to improve the speed and efficiency of its ranking and recommendation systems, used to surface relevant content on its social media sites and target advertising.Meta is one of Nvidia's biggest customers, so if it is successful in its AI chip efforts, the company could reduce its dependency on Nvidia's AI processors.3. AlphabetAt the Google Cloud Next event, Alphabet announced the availability of Cloud Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) v5p, the latest version of its AI-centric processor. The company said its Cloud TPU can train large language models (LLMs) -- which underpin AI systems -- three times faster than version 4.As is generally the case, Google's TPUs won't be sold but will be available on Google Cloud later this year. However, in a blog post, Google noted that it's expanding its Nvidia GPU capabilities with the addition of the A3 Mega Supercomputer, which is powered by Nvidia H100 GPUs. Google Cloud customers will also have access to virtual machines (VM) featuring Nvidia's Blackwell B200 and Grace Blackwell GB200 GPUs.Google also unveiled Axion, its first data center central processing unit (CPU), designed in conjunction with Arm Holdings. Google says Axion is 30% faster than the leading CPU, with 50% better performance and 62% greater efficiency than x86 chips from Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD).An important takeaway for Nvidia investorsWhile Intel intends to compete directly with Nvidia for a piece of the AI chip market, Meta Platforms and Alphabet are developing their own AI chips for specific purposes, either in-house or for cloud customers. They claim to best Nvidia in terms of performance, but their bragging rights don't last, as Nvidia's next-generation chips are already on the way. It's also important to point out that the market for generative AI is growing at a rapid clip, increasing the market for these cutting-edge processors. As a result, Nvidia will likely maintain its industry-leading position, even as rivals enter the fray.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":302,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":294591701057704,"gmtCreate":1712940231803,"gmtModify":1712940235870,"author":{"id":"4149395959694462","authorId":"4149395959694462","name":"Kevinshn23","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/29843fac63b4e348faf0d33de1ba9e42","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4149395959694462","authorIdStr":"4149395959694462"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great 👍","listText":"Great 👍","text":"Great 👍","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/294591701057704","repostId":"2426735638","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2426735638","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1712932632,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2426735638?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2024-04-12 22:37","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Google Briefly Eclipses $2T Market Cap During Intraday Trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2426735638","media":"Seekingalpha","summary":"Alphabet attained rare status Friday morning as the company briefly eclipsed the $2T market capitalization value during morning trading before falling back. As we moved through the decade, AMD also reorganized its revenue segments to better break out its emerging revenue segments, such as data center revenue, as indicated in Exhibit B.

Exhibit B: AMD's revenue segments before and after the FY21 re-organization (AMD Filings via Statista)

In the last decade, AMD's chips, such as the desktop-focused Ryzen series as well as the EPYC-line of microprocessors meant for the server and embedded markets, carried the company forward as the company continued to win market share against Intel, as illustrated in the chart below in Exhibit C.

Exhibit C: AMD's trailing market share by channel deployment (Toms Hardware)

However, as ChatGPT was launched in the fourth quarter of FY22, the overnight popularity of OpenAI's AI chat assistant was enough to convince enterprises to upgrade their data center architectures to benefit from the oncoming demand for accelerated machine-learning workloads that most ML models would require. Hyperscalers led the way during these rapid capex expansionary phases, in the last 15-18 months.

Unfortunately, companies like AMD and Intel were left behind in the demand for chips that could efficiently handle these accelerated ML-related cloud workloads. I believe this was because the existing line-up of chips both AMD and Intel had on the market at the time were based on the x86 architecture and were no match for the throughput efficiency and the large-scale data parallelization that Nvidia's GPUs could deliver while training large models. This was also seen in a rare earnings report miss in FY22, as seen below.

Exhibit D: AMD's quarterly earnings surprise last eight quarters (Seeking Alpha)

Therefore, AMD, along with Intel, was left behind in the new market for accelerated computing chips that AI had created, as demonstrated in the chart below, where I observe AMD and Intel's market share further reduced in the low single-digits.

Exhibit E: AMD's market share by channel deployment (Wells Fargo Equity Research via Next Platform)

AMD projected to gain market share in 2024

In Exhibit E above, I observe the penetration of Nvidia's GPUs was at its highest in 2023, but projections also estimate that AMD and Intel are expected to win back market share from Nvidia this year onwards. While Intel's market share win-back is expected to be ~1%, AMD is expected to win back an additional~3% of the market.

There are two reasons I believe this can play out for AMD. First, I feel encouraged by the launch of AMD's chips in the past 6-8 months, which positions the company in a better position. Last December, AMD launched its MI300 series accelerated processing unit, aimed at competing with Nvidia's Hopper platform GPU lineup.

In one of the previous earnings calls, AMD's management also surprised many analysts on the call by expanding their TAM to $400 billion. Markets had been projecting TAM to be closer to the ~200 billion range. In that earnings call, AMD's CEO added some more detail as to why they were expecting a significant ramp.

I think we expect units to grow in a sort of substantial double-digit percentage. But you should also expect that content is going to grow. So, if you think about how important memory and memory capacity is as we go forward, you can imagine that we'll see acceleration there and just the overall content as we go to more advanced technology nodes. So, there's some ASP uplift in there. And then, what we also do is, we are planning longer-term roadmaps with our customers in terms of how they're thinking about sort of the size of training clusters, the number of training clusters. And then, the fact that we believe inference is actually going to exceed training as we go into the next couple of years just given as more enterprises adopt.

I believe in the next leg of AI, AMD's chips will be better suited to tackle the enterprise ML inference needs of lower-cost, higher precision chip efficiency. Here is a chart that I adapted, which should illustrate how I see the next leg of AI evolving into, in terms of model inferencing capabilities:

Exhibit F: Model Training vs Model Inference (Author)

Plus, in the latest Computex 2024, I was pleased to see more clarity from AMD's CEO on the roadmap for AMD's accelerated chips, which is closely aligned with my vision for the next phase of AI. AMD will be moving to an annual release cycle of their accelerated GPUs this year and will eventually roll off their MI300 series to make way for the MI400 series in 2026.

I expect these strategic changes by management to supplement the market penetration that I noted earlier in Exhibit C. I have also added AMD's roadmap for accelerator chips below in Exhibit G.

Exhibit G: AMD's roadmap of chips over the next three years (Computex 2024, AMD Presentation)

An example of the ramp can already be seen where management mentioned the demand for their MI3000 chips launched last year. The company was able to score $1 billion in sales within 2 quarters. Based on the success, management has raised their projected guidance for the sales of the MI300 chip in 2024 to $4 billion from the previous $3.5 billion expected. Note that the MI300 chip just launched in December. Here is an excerpt from the latest BofA Securities 2024 GTC, held last week.

We literally launched MI300X last December, right? We have ramped the MI300X across $1 billion in less than two quarters. And when you think about it [Technical Difficulty] and today, we talked about in the last earnings call, we have more than 100 customers that we are engaging with either in the developing stage or in the deployment stage. So, we updated the $4 billion-plus number at the last earnings call.

AMD has upside from current levels

Taking the consensus expectations into consideration, I expect AMD to grow their revenues in 2024 by at least double digits as the company becomes a beneficiary of the new accelerated chips it is rolling out to its customers. Many enterprises have already stated their intentions to wean off their dependence on Nvidia's GPUs, and this could translate to a short-term tailwind for AMD's top-line. In addition, the need for lower-cost model inference chips would be a longer-term tailwind for AMD. Therefore, I expect AMD to be growing in line with consensus estimates, which put the chip firm at a CAGR of 19-20% over the next three years.

In terms of profitability, if I take the midrange of consensus EPS estimates, I observe that AMD's EPS will eventually grow in strong double digits to FY26 EPS of $7.6. With AMD's current market cap, this implies, markets are currently valuing AMD at 23x FY26 earnings.

Exhibit H: AMD's current NTM forward PE (YCharts)

Comparing that to the long-term growth rates of the S&P 500, the stock should trade at least at par with its 5-year average forward PE of 43 based on its earnings growth rate, which translates to a stock price of ~$230.

Exhibit I: Valuation model for AMD (Author)

This implies there is at least 40% upside from current levels.

Risks and other factors to consider

Infrastructure spending slowdowns pose the biggest risk for AMD at this point. If spending were to slow down, AMD's growth rates would be impacted. One of the indicators that I am looking for is the anticipated capex by hyperscalers, who previously indicated that they would upgrade their datacenter architecture with the updated chips and related infrastructure. I had talked about this a couple of months ago in the macro-conditions section of my coverage of SMH.

Plus, recently, Apollo Global's Chief Economist has illustrated how the continuation of robust earnings through the last few quarters indicates higher capex spending ahead, as illustrated in Exhibit J below. Monitoring these macrotrends will be critical to crafting the outlook for AMD as it relates to investors.

Exhibit J: Continued strength in earnings suggests that we will see a strong rebound in business fixed investment (CAPEX) over the coming quarters (Apollo Global)

Takeaway

There are enough reasons that I see to justify the value that AMD's stock provides as per current valuation levels. I am encouraged by the additional details and clarity in AMD's accelerator chip roadmap, which will position AMD to re-capture market share in the data center market from 2024 onwards, despite trailing behind Nvidia in #2. In addition, the shifting trends in machine learning model inference needs will put AMD in a strong position to benefit from forward trends, and I expect AMD to reap the benefits as a result.

I strongly recommend buying AMD at current levels.

","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; So, we updated the $4 billion-plus number at the last earnings call.AMD has upside from current levelsTaking the consensus expectations into consideration, I expect AMD to grow their revenues in 2024 by at least double digits as the company becomes a beneficiary of the new accelerated chips it is rolling out to its customers. With AMD's current market cap, this implies, markets are currently valuing AMD at 23x FY26 earnings.Exhibit H: AMD's current NTM forward PE (YCharts)Comparing that to the long-term growth rates of the S&P 500, the stock should trade at least at par with its 5-year average forward PE of 43 based on its earnings growth rate, which translates to a stock price of ~$230.Exhibit I: Valuation model for AMD (Author)This implies there is at least 40% upside from current levels.Risks and other factors to considerInfrastructure spending slowdowns pose the biggest risk for AMD at this point. If spending were to slow down, AMD's growth rates would be impacted. One of the indicators that I am looking for is the anticipated capex by hyperscalers, who previously indicated that they would upgrade their datacenter architecture with the updated chips and related infrastructure. I had talked about this a couple of months ago in the macro-conditions section of my coverage of SMH.Plus, recently, Apollo Global's Chief Economist has illustrated how the continuation of robust earnings through the last few quarters indicates higher capex spending ahead, as illustrated in Exhibit J below. Monitoring these macrotrends will be critical to crafting the outlook for AMD as it relates to investors.Exhibit J: Continued strength in earnings suggests that we will see a strong rebound in business fixed investment (CAPEX) over the coming quarters (Apollo Global)TakeawayThere are enough reasons that I see to justify the value that AMD's stock provides as per current valuation levels. I am encouraged by the additional details and clarity in AMD's accelerator chip roadmap, which will position AMD to re-capture market share in the data center market from 2024 onwards, despite trailing behind Nvidia in #2. In addition, the shifting trends in machine learning model inference needs will put AMD in a strong position to benefit from forward trends, and I expect AMD to reap the benefits as a result.I strongly recommend buying AMD at current levels.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":271,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":287519717097560,"gmtCreate":1711217832609,"gmtModify":1711217836111,"author":{"id":"4149395959694462","authorId":"4149395959694462","name":"Kevinshn23","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/29843fac63b4e348faf0d33de1ba9e42","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4149395959694462","authorIdStr":"4149395959694462"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Well done","listText":"Well done","text":"Well done","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/287519717097560","repostId":"1132732723","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1132732723","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Everything can be ETF","home_visible":1,"media_name":"ETF Tracker","id":"1070810721","head_image":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/29067a19beca7bb0f3038d0bea28f179"},"pubTimestamp":1711194546,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1132732723?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2024-03-23 19:49","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Navigating Japan's Post-Negative Interest Rate Era: Investment Strategies Unveiled","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1132732723","media":"ETF Tracker","summary":"After Japan's crucial step towards tightening its monetary policy, what's driving the stock market surge and how should investors respond?","content":"

After Japan's crucial step towards tightening its monetary policy, what's driving the stock market surge and how should investors respond?

Recent developments, including wage growth talks and the termination of negative interest rate policies, have reignited investor interest in Japan's market. Therefore, I'm rating Astera Labs, Inc. stock as a sell, notwithstanding its meme-like momentum.

Astera Labs' Near-Term Prospects

Astera Labs specializes in creating advanced technology that helps computers talk to each other faster and more efficiently. They've developed special chips and software that make it easier for large computer systems, especially those used for cloud computing and AI, to connect and share information quickly. Their products are designed to overcome the challenges that come with processing huge amounts of data, allowing companies to build faster and more reliable computer systems for various applications like AI, data analysis, and more.

Astera Labs is poised for significant growth in the near term, leveraging its innovative Intelligent Connectivity Platform tailored for cloud and AI infrastructure. With a singular focus on addressing the critical connectivity challenges inherent in data-centric systems, Astera has established itself as a partner and supplier to major hyperscalers and system OEMs.

Their leading-edge products, have gained traction, with millions of devices shipped across major hyperscalers. Astera's growth emphasizes the increasing demand for their solutions and positions them well for further expansion in the near term.

Moreover, Astera's strategic focus on enhancing its product offerings and driving revenue-per-server-rack growth through generational upgrades and new product introductions aligns well with the rapidly evolving landscape of cloud and AI infrastructure.

Given this background, let's delve into its financials.

Revenue Growth Rates Are All Over the Place

Author's work on ALAB

The recently IPOed Astera (March 20, 2024) has revenue growth rates all over the place. The most recent reported quarter was up 148% y/y. A terrific revenue growth rate, right? Now consider what Astera's SEC filings say,

In the second half of 2022, the [semiconductor] industry supply shortages started to improve, and in response, some of our customers significantly decreased their ordering levels to lower their inventory balances resulting in lower product sales revenue in the fourth quarter of 2022 through the second quarter of 2023.

Simply put, the revenue growth rates that investors are seeing here are mostly a function of very weak revenues in Q4 2022. But given this strong growth, together with a very alluring narrative, and this has the potential to entice many investors to view this business as a very well positioned, rapidly growing business.

And while I admit that Astera is well positioned as well as openly charging it is growing at a rapid clip, however, my contention is that there's a large degree of ''optics'' at play and that investors should not extrapolate these growths beyond H1 2024.

Given this context, let's now discuss its valuation.

ALAB Stock Valuation -- 33x Forward Sales

ALAB Non-GAAP operating income

I've taken the above non-GAAP operating income figures from Astera Lab's SEC filings. It shows that on a non-GAAP basis, the business has its underlying profitability too wild.

And while the most recent quarter delivered 24% non-GAAP operating margins, I'm very much convinced that this is the case of Astera reducing its expenses for 90 days to deliver a whopping quarter, in time for its IPO.

Moreover, given that Astera doesn't provide any guidance, it's difficult to get much of a sense of what its underlying profit margins should stabilize at in a normalized period.

On top of that, consider the following, from its cash flow statement.

ALAB SEC filing

What you see above is that this business delivered a negative $13 million of cash flows. But it includes a $10 million cash-inventory-write-down. Without that inventory liquidation, its cash burn would be closer to $23 million for 2023.

I'm not saying that this is dramatic. It is not. But it goes to show that there are a lot of moving parts that are not immediately obvious. And having to pay around 33x forward sales is a shocking valuation.

Allow me to give you a point of reference. Nvidia (NVDA) with somewhere around 35% to 50% operating margins is priced at 20x forward sales.

The Bottom Line

In conclusion, while Astera Labs, Inc. presents an enticing narrative and demonstrates promise in addressing critical connectivity challenges in data-centric systems, a deeper dive into its financials reveals a less compelling picture.

Despite its meme-like momentum, the stock's valuation at 33x forward sales is unjustified, especially considering its fluctuating revenue growth rates and uncertainty in its underlying profitability.

With opaque optics arguably inflating perceptions of its growth trajectory, investors should steer clear and not extrapolate these trends beyond the first half of 2024. Therefore, I'm rating a sell on Astera Labs, Inc. stock.

","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; (NASDAQ:ALAB) provides the essential building blocks that enable modern computer systems to perform better and handle increasingly complex tasks. The business looks squeaky clean, with its strong balance sheet and alluring narrative. However, once we dig into its financials, we can see that this stock, priced at 33x forward sales, is not quite as compelling as it first appears. Therefore, I'm rating Astera Labs, Inc. stock as a sell, notwithstanding its meme-like momentum.Astera Labs' Near-Term ProspectsAstera Labs specializes in creating advanced technology that helps computers talk to each other faster and more efficiently. They've developed special chips and software that make it easier for large computer systems, especially those used for cloud computing and AI, to connect and share information quickly. Their products are designed to overcome the challenges that come with processing huge amounts of data, allowing companies to build faster and more reliable computer systems for various applications like AI, data analysis, and more.Astera Labs is poised for significant growth in the near term, leveraging its innovative Intelligent Connectivity Platform tailored for cloud and AI infrastructure. With a singular focus on addressing the critical connectivity challenges inherent in data-centric systems, Astera has established itself as a partner and supplier to major hyperscalers and system OEMs.Their leading-edge products, have gained traction, with millions of devices shipped across major hyperscalers. Astera's growth emphasizes the increasing demand for their solutions and positions them well for further expansion in the near term. Moreover, Astera's strategic focus on enhancing its product offerings and driving revenue-per-server-rack growth through generational upgrades and new product introductions aligns well with the rapidly evolving landscape of cloud and AI infrastructure.Given this background, let's delve into its financials.Revenue Growth Rates Are All Over the PlaceAuthor's work on ALABThe recently IPOed Astera (March 20, 2024) has revenue growth rates all over the place. The most recent reported quarter was up 148% y/y. A terrific revenue growth rate, right? Now consider what Astera's SEC filings say,In the second half of 2022, the [semiconductor] industry supply shortages started to improve, and in response, some of our customers significantly decreased their ordering levels to lower their inventory balances resulting in lower product sales revenue in the fourth quarter of 2022 through the second quarter of 2023.Simply put, the revenue growth rates that investors are seeing here are mostly a function of very weak revenues in Q4 2022. But given this strong growth, together with a very alluring narrative, and this has the potential to entice many investors to view this business as a very well positioned, rapidly growing business. And while I admit that Astera is well positioned as well as openly charging it is growing at a rapid clip, however, my contention is that there's a large degree of ''optics'' at play and that investors should not extrapolate these growths beyond H1 2024.Given this context, let's now discuss its valuation.ALAB Stock Valuation -- 33x Forward SalesALAB Non-GAAP operating incomeI've taken the above non-GAAP operating income figures from Astera Lab's SEC filings. It shows that on a non-GAAP basis, the business has its underlying profitability too wild. And while the most recent quarter delivered 24% non-GAAP operating margins, I'm very much convinced that this is the case of Astera reducing its expenses for 90 days to deliver a whopping quarter, in time for its IPO.Moreover, given that Astera doesn't provide any guidance, it's difficult to get much of a sense of what its underlying profit margins should stabilize at in a normalized period. On top of that, consider the following, from its cash flow statement.ALAB SEC filingWhat you see above is that this business delivered a negative $13 million of cash flows. But it includes a $10 million cash-inventory-write-down. Without that inventory liquidation, its cash burn would be closer to $23 million for 2023.I'm not saying that this is dramatic. It is not. But it goes to show that there are a lot of moving parts that are not immediately obvious. And having to pay around 33x forward sales is a shocking valuation.Allow me to give you a point of reference. Nvidia (NVDA) with somewhere around 35% to 50% operating margins is priced at 20x forward sales. The Bottom LineIn conclusion, while Astera Labs, Inc. presents an enticing narrative and demonstrates promise in addressing critical connectivity challenges in data-centric systems, a deeper dive into its financials reveals a less compelling picture.Despite its meme-like momentum, the stock's valuation at 33x forward sales is unjustified, especially considering its fluctuating revenue growth rates and uncertainty in its underlying profitability. With opaque optics arguably inflating perceptions of its growth trajectory, investors should steer clear and not extrapolate these trends beyond the first half of 2024. Therefore, I'm rating a sell on Astera Labs, Inc. stock.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":375,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":287519788236800,"gmtCreate":1711217848581,"gmtModify":1711217852030,"author":{"id":"4149395959694462","authorId":"4149395959694462","name":"Kevinshn23","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/29843fac63b4e348faf0d33de1ba9e42","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4149395959694462","authorIdStr":"4149395959694462"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool","listText":"Cool","text":"Cool","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/287519788236800","repostId":"2421828618","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2421828618","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1711154521,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2421828618?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2024-03-23 08:42","market":"us","language":"en","title":"US Senate Takes up $1.2 Trillion Bill to Avoid Shutdown, Midnight Deadline Looms","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2421828618","media":"Reuters","summary":"(Updates with move to Senate, paragraphs 1, 3) By David Morgan, Richard Cowan and Makini Brice WASHINGTON, March 22 (Reuters) - The Democratic-majority U.S. Senate on Friday was trying to pass ","content":"

WASHINGTON, March 22 (Reuters) - The Democratic-majority U.S. Senate on Friday was trying to pass a $1.2 trillion government funding bill after House of Representatives passage angered a Republican hardliner in that chamber, who threatened to try to oust Speaker Mike Johnson.

The House's 286-134 vote sent the measure to the Democratic-majority Senate, which has hours to act ahead of a midnight deadline (0400 GMT Saturday) to prevent parts of the Department of Homeland Security, Internal Revenue Service and Justice Department to Treasury and State departments from closing.

The Senate began a procedural vote on the matter on Friday, while leadership negotiated behind the scenes to bypass some of the chamber's Byzantine rules and allow for a swifter vote on passage.

The move marks a critical step toward ending a more-than-six-month battle over the scope of Washington's spending for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1.
