The Cboe Volatility Index, or VIX, is in the mid-to-high teens, a muted level that hardly suggests Wall Street's so-called fear gauge is signaling panic. Stocks continue to trade near record highs, led by darlings such as Nvidia, Micron Technology, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing. Bitcoin, an asset that is even more dependent on investors' eagerness to take risks, is on a tear, too.

That exuberance might seem irrational. Wednesday's surprise drop in private-sector jobs in September reported by payroll processor ADP, is a concerning signal.

Yet investors seem to be taking it as a positive, reasoning that the weakening job market is likely to give the Federal Reserve more justification to lower interest rates again later this month. In fact, futures are pricing in a nearly 100% probability of another rate cut at the Fed's Oct. 28-29 meeting.

Investors are also preparing for the flurry of third-quarter earnings reports due this month. A trickle of releases will land next week, with Constellation Brands, McCormick, Pepsi, Delta Air Lines and Levi Strauss on tap. JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs Group, and several other big financial companies are set to release their results during the week of Oct. 13.

Analysts expect earnings to be solid. "We're not expecting a significant economic slowdown or recession."

The risk of defaults seems low, even for companies with lower credit quality, she added. The extended hour trading is subject to Equity Data Plans making changes that would facilitate overnight trading hours and 24X National Exchange making an additional rule filing with the SEC confirming the changes and the Exchange's ability to comply with the Securities Exchange Act.24X National Exchange will be subject to the SEC's ongoing regulatory oversight and full range of investor protections. The new Exchange will enable retail and institutional customers anywhere in the world to trade in U.S. equities via broker-dealers who are approved members of 24X National Exchange.24X National Exchange will be launched in two stages. A first stage will open in the second half of 2025, with the Exchange operating from 4:00AM ET to 7:00PM ET on weekdays. The second stage, which will launch once the conditions noted above are met, will offer trading in U.S. equities from 8:00PM ET on Sunday through 7:00PM ET on Friday. A one-hour operational pause will occur during each trading day to accommodate routine software upgrades and functionality testing.24 Exchange CEO and Founder Dmitri Galinov said: \"The SEC's approval of our new exchange is a thrilling development that the 24X Team has been working toward for many years. Oddly enough, Tesla is either a pioneer or a pariah, depending on whom you ask about it.The best way to sum up Tesla’s current situation is: “It’s complicated.” Therefore, if you intend to buy Tesla stock, only purchase a few shares and have an exit plan ready if the trade goes against you.There are several issues that complicate the Tesla bull case. These issues include Tesla’s layoffs, an executive exodus and CEO Elon Musk’s potential clash with U.S. regulators. All in all, the near-term outlook for Tesla is hazy and investors should choose caution over complacency.Is Musk Really Committed to Affordable EVs?Earlier this year, Tesla disappointed some EV enthusiasts when it reportedly shelved its plans to produce a highly affordable entry-level vehicle. This proposed EV, informally known as the Model 2, had previously been expected to start at around $25,000.Is Musk obsession with robotaxis causing Tesla to abandon affordable EVs in favor of self-driving cars? That’s a valid concern, and a recent news item further calls Tesla’s commitment to affordable vehicles into question.Specifically, Reuters reported that Tesla has “stopped taking orders for the least expensive version of its Cybertruck, which is priced at $61,000.”Meanwhile, Tesla’s $100,000 version of the Cybertruck electric SUV is immediately available for order and prompt delivery.Frankly, Tesla’s decisions to shelve its $25,000 EV plans and stop taking orders for the less expensive Cybertruck version are tone deaf. One of the biggest barriers to EV adoption is price, and robotaxi-obsessed Musk doesn’t seem to understand or care about this issue.Investors might wonder whether the Cybertruck will live up to the hype as some customers wait for a less expensive version.Guidehouse Insights analyst Sam Abuelsamid explained, “It shows that demand is a lot less than a million trucks” (referring to Musk’s previous claim that Tesla had fielded 1 million Cybertruck reservations).Tesla Makes Headway in ChinaTesla may be quite popular in the U.S., but the company has a China problem. One commentator described Tesla as a “catfish” in a “tank full of baby sharks.” In other words, Tesla is struggling to compete in China against domestic EV producers.Tesla’s troubles in China won’t end anytime soon. However, for what it’s worth, Tesla sold 46,227 EVs in China in July. That’s up 47% year over year, so the improvement is notable.However, one good month doesn’t make a pattern. Analysts forecast that Tesla will sell 950,000 cars globally in the second half this year. The company will need to maintain a rapid, consistent EV-sales pace – including in China – to achieve this.This will be easier said than done, of course. China’s vehicle market is highly competitive, and many Chinese EV buyers are loyal to domestic brands.It’s dangerous for investors to assume that Tesla’s July EV-sales growth will become a consistent pattern. Thus, it’s wise to stay small in your Tesla share position and continue to monitor the data.Don’t Go Overboard With Tesla StockDon’t get the wrong impression. I’m certainly not telling anyone to panic-sell their Tesla shares. Oddly enough, Tesla is either a pioneer or a pariah, depending on whom you ask about it.The best way to sum up Tesla’s current situation is: “It’s complicated.” Therefore, if you intend to buy Tesla stock, only purchase a few shares and have an exit plan ready if the trade goes against you.There are several issues that complicate the Tesla bull case. These issues include Tesla’s layoffs, an executive exodus and CEO Elon Musk’s potential clash with U.S. regulators. All in all, the near-term outlook for Tesla is hazy and investors should choose caution over complacency.Is Musk Really Committed to Affordable EVs?Earlier this year, Tesla disappointed some EV enthusiasts when it reportedly shelved its plans to produce a highly affordable entry-level vehicle. This proposed EV, informally known as the Model 2, had previously been expected to start at around $25,000.Is Musk obsession with robotaxis causing Tesla to abandon affordable EVs in favor of self-driving cars? That’s a valid concern, and a recent news item further calls Tesla’s commitment to affordable vehicles into question.Specifically, Reuters reported that Tesla has “stopped taking orders for the least expensive version of its Cybertruck, which is priced at $61,000.”Meanwhile, Tesla’s $100,000 version of the Cybertruck electric SUV is immediately available for order and prompt delivery.Frankly, Tesla’s decisions to shelve its $25,000 EV plans and stop taking orders for the less expensive Cybertruck version are tone deaf. One of the biggest barriers to EV adoption is price, and robotaxi-obsessed Musk doesn’t seem to understand or care about this issue.Investors might wonder whether the Cybertruck will live up to the hype as some customers wait for a less expensive version.Guidehouse Insights analyst Sam Abuelsamid explained, “It shows that demand is a lot less than a million trucks” (referring to Musk’s previous claim that Tesla had fielded 1 million Cybertruck reservations).Tesla Makes Headway in ChinaTesla may be quite popular in the U.S., but the company has a China problem. One commentator described Tesla as a “catfish” in a “tank full of baby sharks.” In other words, Tesla is struggling to compete in China against domestic EV producers.Tesla’s troubles in China won’t end anytime soon. However, for what it’s worth, Tesla sold 46,227 EVs in China in July. That’s up 47% year over year, so the improvement is notable.However, one good month doesn’t make a pattern. Analysts forecast that Tesla will sell 950,000 cars globally in the second half this year. The company will need to maintain a rapid, consistent EV-sales pace – including in China – to achieve this.This will be easier said than done, of course. China’s vehicle market is highly competitive, and many Chinese EV buyers are loyal to domestic brands.It’s dangerous for investors to assume that Tesla’s July EV-sales growth will become a consistent pattern. Thus, it’s wise to stay small in your Tesla share position and continue to monitor the data.Don’t Go Overboard With Tesla StockDon’t get the wrong impression. I’m certainly not telling anyone to panic-sell their Tesla shares. After all, Tesla’s July EV sales growth in China is undeniable.However, investors shouldn’t jump to any hasty conclusions about Tesla’s China and global EV sales for the rest of 2024. Moreover, one might wonder whether Tesla and Musk are truly committed to making EVs affordable.Therefore, any portfolio positions in Tesla stock should be very small. Also, it’s essential to have an exit plan in place, just in case the financial market decides to punish Tesla in the coming months.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLL":1,"TSLA":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2065,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":362980862599192,"gmtCreate":1729654204639,"gmtModify":1729654350285,"author":{"id":"4178149006407822","authorId":"4178149006407822","name":"Diabetic5","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/2bf7c0cab85107e08be9cc7fab09a1fd","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4178149006407822","idStr":"4178149006407822"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Imagine investing $50M in a company that's declaring bankruptcy in 2 weeks.","listText":"Imagine investing $50M in a company that's declaring bankruptcy in 2 weeks.","text":"Imagine investing $50M in a company that's declaring bankruptcy in 2 weeks.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/362980862599192","repostId":"2477120153","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2477120153","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1729653541,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2477120153?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2024-10-23 11:19","market":"sh","language":"en","title":"Bill Gates Privately Donates $50 Million to Harris","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2477120153","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates has privately told people he donated around $50 million toward electing Kamala Harris president, a person familiar with the matter said.Gates made the donation to Future Forward, a nonprofit organization run by fellow billionaire and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the person said. The extended hour trading is subject to Equity Data Plans making changes that would facilitate overnight trading hours and 24X National Exchange making an additional rule filing with the SEC confirming the changes and the Exchange's ability to comply with the Securities Exchange Act.24X National Exchange will be subject to the SEC's ongoing regulatory oversight and full range of investor protections. The new Exchange will enable retail and institutional customers anywhere in the world to trade in U.S. equities via broker-dealers who are approved members of 24X National Exchange.24X National Exchange will be launched in two stages. A first stage will open in the second half of 2025, with the Exchange operating from 4:00AM ET to 7:00PM ET on weekdays. The second stage, which will launch once the conditions noted above are met, will offer trading in U.S. equities from 8:00PM ET on Sunday through 7:00PM ET on Friday. A one-hour operational pause will occur during each trading day to accommodate routine software upgrades and functionality testing.24 Exchange CEO and Founder Dmitri Galinov said: \"The SEC's approval of our new exchange is a thrilling development that the 24X Team has been working toward for many years. Traders are most at-risk when the market is closed in their geographic location. 24X National Exchange will seek to alleviate this problem by facilitating around-the-clock U.S. equities trading for broker-dealers and their institutional and retail customers.\"As the first national securities exchange approved by the SEC to operate 23 hours each weekday, subject to the conditions noted above, 24X National Exchange will initially focus on capturing the expanding demand in the APAC region for overnight liquidity in U.S. equities.The 24X National Exchange will run on a proven, state-of-the-art technology platform provided by MEMX Technologies. The new Exchange's executive team will place a high priority on enhancing client experience through continuous technology innovations and improvements.\"With this historic SEC approval in place, we will build and operate a customer-driven Exchange that can rapidly align with market demands and adapt quickly to client feedback,\" Galinov added. \"We look forward to bringing a superior trading experience to global customers. 24X National Exchange will deliver the cost efficiency, speed, resilience, and adaptability that the company's financial institutional customers have long come to expect.\"24X National Exchange will close on U.S. market holidays, similar to the schedules maintained by the NYSE and Nasdaq.24 Exchange through 24X Bermuda Limited, an affiliate of 24X National Exchange, will continue to offer FX NDFs, Swaps and Spot trading to institutional clients. Since its launch in 2019, 24 Exchange's multi-asset offering through a single trading interface has enabled clients to access increased liquidity at lower cost.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".SPX":1.1,".DJI":1.1,".IXIC":1.1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2337,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
