Dividends & Growth: What’s Your Longest-Held SG Stock?

Many think US stocks offer higher gains, but some SG stocks are also shining: For example, $PropNex(OYY.SI)$ has risen 150% YTD, with a dividend yield of about 4%! 💡 As some investors say: “Compounding is the eighth wonder of the world.” Think about it: dividends + holding for the long term—could this be a slow magic for building wealth? ✨ Plus, SG stocks have tax-free dividends What’s the longest-held Singapore stock in your portfolio? How long have you held it? Is it for dividends, growth, or both? Do you plan to hold stocks for 10 years or longer?

My UMS Holdings is more than 10 years started at price less than $0.50, more than 90k shares. Going thru 3 rounds of split with bonus shares 1 for every 4 shares, the number compound at 1.25. The average price now is below $0.5.

“Longest-Held SG Stock? 🏆 Some people have DBS, OCBC, SGX or even Sheng Siong sitting in their portfolios so long… the stocks probably qualify for CPF contributions already. 😂🇸🇬 While US markets get all the hype — AI rockets, tech moonshots 🚀✨ — Singapore stocks are like that dependable friend: Steady, drama-free, pays you dividends, and never ghosts you. 💌 Just look at names like DBS (dividends that hit harder than kopi-gao), Sheng Siong (every recession = stronger), or SGX (the tollbooth of Singapore markets). These are the classic “I’ll just hold until my grandkids ask me what a share certificate is” type of stocks. 📜👶 And then you’ve got gems like PropNex — up 150% YTD?! 😳 That’s not just growth — that’s ‘did someone secretly install a turbocharger?’ kind of performance. Plus a ~4% div

Powering Up My Portfolio: How a Decade with Sembcorp Turned Dividends into a Growth Engine

How Holding a Decade-Old SG Dividend Champion Like Sembcorp Shapes My Compounding Engine I’ve held $Sembcorp Ind(U96.SI)$ for ten years, and somewhere along the way, my steady dividend stock became a teenager who quietly excels at everything I didn’t expect. What began as a reliable dividend play in Singapore has evolved into a subtle yet powerful growth engine for my portfolio. Thanks to tax-free dividends, every dollar I’ve received over the years has been able to reinvest at full strength, quietly compounding while the market chased flashier headlines elsewhere. A decade of quiet compounding pushing outward with deliberate strength The Compounding I Didn’t Realise I’d Built Reinvesting dividends sounds dull until you do the maths. A $10,000 p

Hi. I first bought OCBC in 2020. Have been holding on to it and adding progressively as well. OCBC is strong bank in SG and dividend is quite good in comparison to many other listed co. Will try to buy 100 shares per mth moving forward. Target to accumulate it further for the next 5 yrs. Hope that OCBC will continue to progress well with its strong leadership and direction. cheers. I hold a position in Yangzijiang Shipbuilding $YZJ Shipbldg SGD(BS6.SI)$ , so this week’s volatility definitely stood out. Despite the post-earnings drop, the rebound and solid YTD performance remind me why I’m comfortable holding it. The order book is strong, and even though the dividend yield isn’t high, I still see it as a steady long-term play. Singapore stocks give me a good mix of stability and tax-free dividends, which really help compounding. I hold a few SG names for both growth and income, and my longest-held one has been in my portfolio for several years.

🌟🌟🌟 $YZJ Shipbldg SGD(BS6.SI)$ holds a special place in my heart as it has rewarded me three fold through its 2 spin offs  in addition to capital growth and dividends . As China's largest and most efficient private shipbuilder , YZJ isn't just about building ships .  It is also about building wealth. What makes YZJ special is its exceptional efficiency and cost control.  YZJ operates with an owner oriented mindset from top to bottom , which fosters  high productivity and lower operating costs .  This superior operational efficiency translates into consistently higher profit margins , with recent gross margins reaching a record 35%.

🌟🌟🌟There are investments & there are cornerstones.  For me that cornerstone has always been $DBS(D05.SI)$ . It is more than just a stock. DBS is synonymous with the success of Singapore as a global financial powerhouse! Founded to support Singapore's industrialisation , DBS has grown alongside the nation's economic progress & is seen by many as reflecting Singapore's financial growth. As my oldest holding, DBS is a testament to the power of long term belief and that conviction is paying off in a huge way. I am so happy that DBS has rewarded me well, not only with capital growth but with great dividends and even bonus shares too. I am up a mas

Well, it has to be Sheng Shiong. Got it at below $1 then.
I bought DBS during the COVID period around the $15-20+ range. Held it till now and the capital gains and dividend return (around 15+% yield on cost) is phenomenal. Will continue holding it for the long term as there is hardly much chance to get it at these prices. However, may sell some for rebalancing purpose in the future.

over 10 years and it was rubbish. never grow
$YZJ Shipbldg CNY(SO7.SI)$ is a ship building company the main characteristic of this stock which is of interest is its dividend paying status which resulted in an increase in share price on rumours of higher shipping volumes. Long term this stock is in decline with a declining economic outlook and reduced share expectations for shipping and shipbuilding

Longest-held SG stock in portfolio is Aims APAC reit and bought it for its high dividend yield several years ago. Hold some long term and traded some for quick profits.

I've held $ParkwayLife Reit(C2PU.SI)$ for years now, nothing too exciting, fairly reliable. I agree with having some dividends, growth is nice but takes more time, energy and effort. I do agree with the Buffett line for most parts. But once in a blue moon, I pop into roller coaster stocks to get a quick profit, I do think that is ill-disciplined of me, but it gives me some action (because I tend to go for companies with solid fundamentals and just stick with them for the long term).

OCBC has been my longest holding SG stock for approximately 4+ years after adjusting my strategies. I have adopted strategy of combination of dividend, growth and ride-the-waves for this OCBC stock. I believe that each market and stock should have its own strategy for optimal results inline with objective set.
