From Leaders to Laggards — Are Memory Stocks Waiting on Micron?

Memory gave back Wednesday what it made Tuesday: SanDisk -3.73% to $1,816.57, SK Hynix -3.12% to $189.28, Micron -2.22% to $1,071.88. Rising yields hit high-multiple assets first, and memory had run hardest. The test is next week: Micron reports after the close on Sept 30 ET, with the quarter's revenue and gross margin, HBM4 shipments, order coverage and the 2027 outlook in focus. Bulls say price hikes and locked orders predate the print, so it only confirms them; bears say prices already assume a strong 2027 — one soft notch costs more than 3%. Would a strong print end the pullback?

MU vs SNDK: I Would Trade Them Differently

Micron currently gives me the cleaner read on DRAM and HBM demand. SanDisk gives me exposure to NAND and data-storage demand, but after its enormous rerating and recent index-related catalyst, I think price discipline matters even more. So I don't want to chase either stock simply because the memory thesis remains bullish. I want the market to give me my price. My MU Pick Levels Around the recent $1,080 area, MU is no longer cheap enough for me to treat every small dip as an opportunity. $1,030-$1,060: First Pick I would consider starting or adding modestly here if the broader memory thesis remains intact. $970-$1,020: Preferred Pick This is the zone I would find considerably more attractive after the earnings run. $900-$950: Strong Pick If MU reaches this area because of macro pressure ra

From Leaders to Laggards: Is Memory Waiting on Micron? Memory gave back Tuesday's gains on Wednesday. SanDisk fell 3.73%, SK Hynix 3.12% and Micron 2.22%. The selling carried on into Thursday's pre-market, then all three bounced on Friday as oil eased after the Trump–Xi meeting. They fell together and bounced together, so this is one trade, not three. Capacity expansions—including Idaho-1, Singapore HBM, and Tonglou—will drive the next growth phase starting FY'27 amid industry-wide supply increases. Key risks include labor negotiations in Taiwan, potential customer inventory build-ups, and margin sensitivity in non-data center segments.
