technology in ","content":"
Apple Inc. will have to face a patent infringement lawsuit over the heart rate sensor technology in the Apple Watch, AppleInsiderreportedMonday, citing a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
\n
What Happened: The original lawsuit - filed by Omni MedSci Inc. in 2018 - had alleged that Apple Watch’s heart rate measurement technology infringed on multiple patents owned by the company, as per the report.
\n
Apple’s move to get the lawsuit dismissed was denied by a U.S. District Court. The case was brought to the Federal Circuit after theTim Cook-led company appealed the decision, the report noted.
\n
The patents were reportedly owned by University of Michigan professor Mohammed Islam, who later assigned the patent rights to Omni MedSci.
\n
However, Apple had argued that the patents actually belonged to the University of Michigan, citing Islam’s employment agreement with the university, as per the report. When Gelsinger unveiled the company’s plans for the future in late March,Intel (ticker: INTC) said it expected full-year earnings of $4 a share from revenue of $76.5 billion. Including various adjustments, such as those related to Intel’s sale of its flash-memory business in 2020, EPS is likely to be $4.55, while revenue is expected to be $72 billion, the company said.
\n
As part of the plan, Intel said it would once again license its x86 chip designs to other companies, and create a foundry services unit that would produce chips for third parties interested in paying Intel to fabricate semiconductors.
\n
Intel didn’t issue precise new financial guidance for the first quarter, but said it expected results better than its prior forecast.
