feud between Walt Disney Co and “Black Widow” star Scarlett Johansson has taken a new twist with the studio reportedly canceling planned projects it previously announced with the two-time Oscar-nominated actress.\nWhat Happened:According to a report on the entertainment siteGiantFreakinRobot.combased on information from “one of our trusted and proven inside sources,” Disney has dropped the “Tower of Terror” project that Johansson was scheduled to star in and produce through her These Pictures company.\n“Tower of Terror” is based on the popular Disney theme park ride.Colliderfirst reported the project had the greenlight in June, with “Toy Story 4” director Josh Cooley at work on a screenplay. The ride inspired a 1997 made-for-television Disney film with Steve Guttenbergand the studio has trying to develop a theatrical feature since 2015.\nWhat Else Happened:Besides giving “Tower of Terror” the kibosh, the studio is also closing the door on any potential future projects with Johansson, whosued Disneyover breach of contract in connection with having her “Black Widow” salary linked to the film’s theatrical release. The studio gave the film a simultaneous theatrical and streaming release, which Johansson said violated her contract and ensured she would be receiving less money for her performance.\nJohansson’s only other 2021 film role will be a voice performance in the animated film “Sing 2” from Comcast Corporation’s Universal Pictures, which is scheduled for a December release. She is in pre-production as star and producer on the science-fiction drama “Bride,” which will be released by A24 and Apple Inc. .\nIn early 2020, Johansson and Chris Evans were cited in multiple entertainment media sources as being in talks to star in a remake of the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” for the AT&T subsidiary Warner Bros. However, Evans told an interviewer in March the project has been put on indefinite hold because the projected film budget became too large.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"DIS":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3635,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":898001098,"gmtCreate":1628438037614,"gmtModify":1703506240539,"author":{"id":"3575627053369808","authorId":"3575627053369808","name":"whitetea","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/50005dfd44b247e618a01c5108cd058b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3575627053369808","idStr":"3575627053369808"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/898001098","repostId":"1139912651","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":4984,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":891187591,"gmtCreate":1628349607913,"gmtModify":1703505325404,"author":{"id":"3575627053369808","authorId":"3575627053369808","name":"whitetea","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/50005dfd44b247e618a01c5108cd058b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3575627053369808","idStr":"3575627053369808"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Good for Uber T","content":"
(Update: August 5, 2021 at 11:12 a.m. ET)
\n
Aug 5 (Reuters) - A return to business as usual for Uber Technologies Inc and its rival Lyft Inc has thrown up a new challenge to the ride-hailing firms looking for profitability - spend more to bring back drivers to meet the rising demand for rides.
\n
Between the two, their spending plans have differed.
\n
Uber shelled out $250 million in the second quarter and has now begun cutting back as it added more hands behind the wheels, while Lyft has decided to keep spending into the third quarter.
\n
With trip demand so far outpacing driver supply, the ride-hail businesses risk alienating returning customers with higher prices and longer wait times if drivers fail to show up in big numbers.
\n
Labor shortages have widely hampered an economic recovery in the United States, with the service industry struggling the most to find staff as enhanced U.S. jobless benefits, which are set to phase out in September, keep away workers for now.
\n
\"Despite the smaller pool of drivers available today, the benefits cliff in September is something Uber and the industry will benefit from,\" Angelo Zino, analyst at CFRA Research said.
\n
Returning drivers to their platforms is crucial for both Uber and Lyft to grow even as they cut costs amid pressure from investors for profitability.
\n
To focus on its core ride-hailing, food-delivery and freight services, Uber has sold capital-intensive businesses like self-driving and flying taxi units, while Lyft, a streamlined business compared to Uber, has also been keeping a tight lid on costs.
\n
In their latest earnings calls, top executives of both companies faced questions from analysts, who have been keeping a close eye on their spending plans, on how Uber and Lyft plan to improve driver supply.
\n
Uber finance head Nelson Chai said it was reducing direct driver incentives and was allowing drivers to keep a higher share of the fare, while keeping the amount it takes from each ride low.
\n
\"Unlike at Lyft, where margins improved sequentially, it seems Uber made less use of surge pricing to fund these driver incentives, resulting in the hit to profitability,\" Atlantic Equities analyst James Cordwell said.
\n
Both companies have said riders in July were returning in greater numbers than at anytime before the pandemic started.
\n
Lyft jumped over 7% in morning trading, Uber advanced 5%.
\n
<img Tesla will be able to update the software for impacted customers remotely, so they will not have to return their cars, the report said. The regulator did not immediately answer a question fromBarron’son whether the issue had already led to collisions in China.\nChina is a key market for Tesla, which sells about 30% of its vehicles there. Sales in China have been spotty lately, with a decline in April followed by more promising May numbers. Tesla has been making vehicles at a Shanghai plant since 2019.\nLately, there have been complaints from some Chinese customers about Tesla’s quality and service, with a protest at the Shanghai Auto Show in April. Tesla apologized to customers in April for how it dealt with customer complaints.\nThe issues are part of a larger public relations problem that may be weighing on Tesla stock, which is down 5% this year after rising eight-fold in 2020. That said, the stock was on an upswing over the past week, perhaps related to optimism about end-of-quarter vehicle deliveries. Tesla has not announced the date of its second-quarter earnings report yet.\nIt’s not clear if the issue in China could also impact vehicles in the U.S. Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday morning.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1405,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":129603020,"gmtCreate":1624370025460,"gmtModify":1703834672958,"author":{"id":"3575627053369808","authorId":"3575627053369808","name":"whitetea","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/50005dfd44b247e618a01c5108cd058b","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3575627053369808","idStr":"3575627053369808"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Nice.
