gains.</p>\n<p>Led by the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite , Wall Street closed Tuesday higher, bouncing back from a sell-off set off last week by a Fed policy update that suggested officials believed rates would rise more quickly to counter rising inflation.</p>\n<p>The Nasdaq closed at another record high, as top-shelf tech companies resumed their growth trajectories.</p>\n<p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 68.61 points, or 0.2% and the S&amp;P 500 gained 21.65 points, or 0.51%. to 4,246.44 and the Nasdaq Composite added 111.79 points, or 0.79 percent, to 14,253.27.</p>\n<p>The MSCI world equity index , which tracks shares in 45 nations, rose 4.4 points or 0.62%.</p>\n<p>\"I really think there's a realization that this is a ripe environment: rates are still low and for stock investors, this hits a 'just right' tone,\" said Patrick Leary, chief market strategist at Incapital. \"The market is concerned about rising inflation numbers and was getting more unnerved as the Fed dismissed them until last week’s meeting.\"</p>\n<p>Testifying before Congress, Powell vowed that the Fed will not raise rates out of fear of potential rising inflation, and instead will prioritize a \"broad and inclusive\" recovery of the job market. He said recent price increases do not suggest higher rates are needed, and instead can be attributed to categories directly impacted by economic reopening.</p>\n<p>\"After the FOMC took the wind out of the reflation trade at the end of last week, that’s started to reverse over the last two days. It seems last week’s price action went too far,\" said Stephanie Roth, senior markets economist for J.P. It is holding below a two-month high of 92.408 reached on Friday.</p>\n<p>Oil slid slightly after Brent rose above $75 a barrel for the first time in over two years, as OPEC+ discussed raising oil production.</p>\n<p>Brent crude futures settled down 9 cents to $74.81 a barrel after hitting a session high of $75.30 a barrel, the strongest since April 25, 2019.</p>\n<p>U.S. West Texas Intermediate <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WTI\">$(WTI)$</a> crude fell 60 cents, or 0.8%, to $73.06 a barrel.</p>\n<p>Bitcoin began making a comeback of sorts, climbing back above $30,000 after hitting lows not seen since January. The cryptocurrency last traded at $32,831, but has nearly halved in value over the last three months. Senyek notes that the Fed may indeed be more ready to taper—or reduce the size of its bond-buying program—than some appreciate. He cites the&nbsp;recently hot inflation. But the central bank has limited margin for error, and any miscues on messaging could be costly to the stock market.\nMarkets do not expect the Fed to make any sudden or drastic changes to its current easy-money policy. The 10-year Treasury bond’s yield has fallen to 1.51% from 1.64% a month ago, even as inflation has run hotter than expected. The Nasdaq 100, an index of large capitalization and fast-growing technology companies,is up more than 5% in the past month. Growth stocks see a significant valuation booster when long-dated bond yields remain low, as growth companies expect growing profits on a particularly long-term basis. But while investors expect the Fed to soon reduce the size of its bond-buying program, which would raise bond prices and lower their yields, most don’t think the Fed will do so immediately or drastically.\n“It’s pretty clear that the market expects Fed Chair Powell to strongly reiterate his stances,” writes Chris Senyek, chief investment strategist at Wolfe Research.\nNow, the Fed could stoke a harsh move downwards in tech stocks if it doesn’t choose its words wisely. With the Nasdaq 100 hovering just below a new all-time high set on June 14—accompanied with a 10-year Treasury bond yield that’s well below its 2021 peak of 1.75%—tech stocks are vulnerable to a downward jolt if the Fed misspeaks. Senyek notes that the Fed may indeed be more ready to taper—or reduce the size of its bond-buying program—than some appreciate. He cites the recently hot inflation. To be sure, most market participants see inflation as transitory, a result of a natural year-over-year bounce from low prices during last year’s lockdown. Shares of the movie theater operator have skyrocketed close to 2,500% year to date.</p>\n<p>The consensus among analysts, though, is that the stock could lose 90% of its current value. Even the most optimistic analyst surveyed by Refinitiv has a price target for AMC that's more than 70% below the current share price.</p>\n<p>But isn't AMC's business picking up? Yep. The easing of restrictions has enabled the company to reopen 99% of its U.S. theaters. AMC could benefit as seating capacity limitations imposed by state and local governments are raised. Thereleases of multiple movies this summerand later this year that are likely to be hits should also help.</p>\n<p>However, Wall Street clearly believes that AMC's share price has gotten way ahead of its business prospects. The stock is trading at nearly eight times higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.</p>\n<p>Clover Health Investments</p>\n<p>Only a few days ago, it looked like&nbsp;<b>Clover Health Investments</b>(NASDAQ:CLOV)might push AMC to the side as the hottest meme stock. Retail investors viewed Clover as a primeshort squeezecandidate.</p>\n<p>Since the beginning of June, shares of Clover Health have jumped more than 65%. Analysts, however, don't expect those gains to last. The average price target for the stock is 25% below the current share price.</p>\n<p>Clover Health's valuation does seem to have gotten out of hand. The healthcare stock currently trades at more than 170 times trailing-12-month sales. That's a nosebleed level, especially considering that the company is the subject of investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.</p>\n<p>Still, Clover Health could deliver improving financial results this year. The company hopes to significantly increase its membership by targeting the original Medicare program. This represents a major new market opportunity in addition to its current Medicare Advantage business.</p>\n<p>Sundial Growers</p>\n<p>At one point earlier this year,&nbsp;<b>Sundial Growers</b>(NASDAQ:SNDL)appeared to be a legitimate contender to become the biggest winner among meme stocks. The Canadian marijuana stock vaulted more than 520% higher year to date before giving up much of its gains. However, Sundial's share price has still more than doubled in 2021.</p>\n<p>Analysts anticipate that the pot stock could fall even further. The consensus price target for Sundial reflects a 23% discount to its current share price. One analyst even thinks the stock could sink 55%.</p>\n<p>There certainly are reasons to be pessimistic about Sundial's core cannabis business. The company's net cannabis revenue fell year over year in the first quarter of 2021. Although Sundial is taking steps that it hopes will turn things around, it remains to be seen if those efforts will succeed.</p>\n<p>Sundial's business deals could give investors reasons for optimism. After all, the company posted positive adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) in Q1 due to its investments.</p>\n<p>However, the cash that Sundial is using to make these investments has come at the cost of increased dilution of its stock. Here are three meme stocks that Wall Street thinks will plunge by more than 20% within the next 12 months.\nAMC Entertainment\nAMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC)ranks as the best-performing meme stock of all. Shares of the movie theater operator have skyrocketed close to 2,500% year to date.\nThe consensus among analysts, though, is that the stock could lose 90% of its current value. Even the most optimistic analyst surveyed by Refinitiv has a price target for AMC that's more than 70% below the current share price.\nBut isn't AMC's business picking up? Yep. The easing of restrictions has enabled the company to reopen 99% of its U.S. theaters. AMC could benefit as seating capacity limitations imposed by state and local governments are raised. Thereleases of multiple movies this summerand later this year that are likely to be hits should also help.\nHowever, Wall Street clearly believes that AMC's share price has gotten way ahead of its business prospects. The stock is trading at nearly eight times higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.\nClover Health Investments\nOnly a few days ago, it looked like Clover Health Investments(NASDAQ:CLOV)might push AMC to the side as the hottest meme stock. Retail investors viewed Clover as a primeshort squeezecandidate.\nSince the beginning of June, shares of Clover Health have jumped more than 65%. Analysts, however, don't expect those gains to last. The average price target for the stock is 25% below the current share price.\nClover Health's valuation does seem to have gotten out of hand. The healthcare stock currently trades at more than 170 times trailing-12-month sales. That's a nosebleed level, especially considering that the company is the subject of investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.\nStill, Clover Health could deliver improving financial results this year. The company hopes to significantly increase its membership by targeting the original Medicare program. This represents a major new market opportunity in addition to its current Medicare Advantage business.\nSundial Growers\nAt one point earlier this year, Sundial Growers(NASDAQ:SNDL)appeared to be a legitimate contender to become the biggest winner among meme stocks. The Canadian marijuana stock vaulted more than 520% higher year to date before giving up much of its gains. However, Sundial's share price has still more than doubled in 2021.\nAnalysts anticipate that the pot stock could fall even further. The consensus price target for Sundial reflects a 23% discount to its current share price. One analyst even thinks the stock could sink 55%.\nThere certainly are reasons to be pessimistic about Sundial's core cannabis business. The company's net cannabis revenue fell year over year in the first quarter of 2021. Although Sundial is taking steps that it hopes will turn things around, it remains to be seen if those efforts will succeed.\nSundial's business deals could give investors reasons for optimism. He said recent price increases do not suggest higher rates are needed, and instead can be attributed to categories directly impacted by economic reopening.</p>\n<p>\"After the FOMC took the wind out of the reflation trade at the end of last week, that’s started to reverse over the last two days. It seems last week’s price action went too far,\" said Stephanie Roth, senior markets economist for J.P. Morgan Private Bank.</p>\n<p>Powell's remarks pushed yields on benchmark 10-year Treasuries lower, dipping to yield 1.4649% after clearing 1.5% earlier in the day.</p>\n<p>The dollar also dipped as Powell spoke, with the dollar index falling 0.20% to 91.733 .
