I also believe that instantaneous settlement will eventually be possible, which could ameliorate capital requirements and improve market liquidity,” said Redfearn at the time.\nNow, in just four months since he assumed the role of Vice President of Capital Markets at Coinbase, Redfearn appears to have resigned.\nPrice Action:Coinbase shares were trading 5.16% lower, at $2650.47 at press time.\nShares of the crypto exchange moved in tandem with crypto markets that reached $1.9 trillion for the first time since prices crashed in May.\nAt press time, the market-leading cryptocurrency Bitcoin(CRYPTO: BTC) traded at $45,410, gaining as much as 17.84% over the past week.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"COIN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":771,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":896236750,"gmtCreate":1628583905770,"gmtModify":1703508549718,"author":{"id":"3579167848320394","authorId":"3579167848320394","name":"Juliantotans","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ef95ca83ff749e3e3273525996642c1","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579167848320394","idStr":"3579167848320394"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a But one shouldn't forget that this same index has jumped more than 240% in the past five years, which means that a $5,000 investment in the index would be worth $17,000 now.
\n
Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) stock has done even better over five years, rising over 1,850% and turning $5,000 into nearly $100,000. Rival graphics card specialist NVIDIA(NASDAQ:NVDA)has soared over 1,200% over a similar period. Both stocks have pulled back thanks to the tech sell-off, but these two stocks could deliver outsized gains over the next five years as well, thanks to the catalysts they are sitting on. Let's find out why.
\n
\n
1. Advanced Micro Devices
\n
AMD's fortunes have changed big time over the past five years. A competitive product lineup has allowed it to take market share away from Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) in the x86 processor market, a trend that's expected to continue in the next five years.
\n
AMD DATA BY YCHARTS
\n
AMD has made solid progress in the PC market through its Ryzen CPUs (central processing units) and Radeon GPUs (graphics processing units). According to the latest data from Steam Hardware Survey for April, AMD now controls almost 29.5% of the PC CPU space. It controlled 25% of the market in December 2020, with Intel holding the rest. Steam data is a credible source for PC market share information, as the platform is used by 120 million monthly active users worldwide.
\n
Meanwhile, Mercury Research estimates that AMD's desktop PC market share increased to 19.3% at the end of the first quarter, up from just 11.4% four years ago. It also holds 18% of the mobile CPU market. AMD's CPU market share is expected to jump as high as 50% in 2021 as per Wall Street. This doesn't seem surprising given thetechnology advantage AMD enjoys over Intel, as well as Chipzilla's troubles with getting its latest chips out of the gate.
\n
AMD has also turned on the heat in the laptop market. The company's Ryzen 5000 mobile processors are expected to power 50% more models this year and pave the way for more market share gains.
\n
Meanwhile, AMD has made solid progress in the server processor market, finishing Q1 with an 8.9% share. It was nowhere to be seen in server processors four years ago, but the arrival of the EPYC chips has given it a big shot in the arm. AMD is poised to take away more market share from Intel in servers in the coming years and could make billions of dollars from this space.
\n
On the other hand, the arrival of the latest gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft that are powered by AMD's chips is moving the needle in a big way for the chipmaker. The PlayStation 5 has sold 7.8 million units so far. It is expected to sell over 200 million units over its lifetime, according to an analyst at Japanese firm Rakuten Securities, as compared to 116 million units of the previous generation PS4.
\n
What's more, AMD is reportedly getting 80% more revenue from each unit of the PS5 over the PS4. So, a combination of higher shipments and stronger revenue from each gaming console should unlock a massive revenue opportunity for the company in the long run. Not surprisingly, analysts expect AMD to deliver almost 30% annual earnings growth over the next five years -- making it a top growth stock where one can park $5,000 right now, given that it is trading at less than 28 times forward earnings.
\n
2. NVIDIA
\n
NVIDIA has come a long way in the past five years. The chipmaker has branched out into several fast-growing applications such as data centers, artificial intelligence, autonomous cars, and 5G wireless networks from supplying graphics cards for gaming PCs.
\n
NVDA DATA BY YCHARTS
\n
Gaming continues to be NVIDIA's biggest source of revenue, accounting for 46% of its top line last fiscal year. The segment's revenue was up 41% in fiscal 2021 to $7.7 billion, thanks to the launch of NVIDIA's new RTX 30 series graphics cards, which have set the sales charts on fire by triggering a massive upgrade cycle.
\n
NVIDIA estimates that 85% of its installed base is yet to upgrade to the RTX series cards, which pack a huge performance bump at aggressive price points over prior generation cards. That's a huge opportunity, as NVIDIA's installed base of gaming graphics cards stands at 140 million. More importantly, the company's new GPUs are driving an increase in the average selling price (ASP).
\n
The latest Ampere-based GPUs recorded an ASP of $360 in the first six months of their launch thanks to an increase in the proportion of customers buying higher-priced cards. That's 20% higher than the previous generation Turing cards that had an ASP of $300 in the initial six months, and well above the $245 ASP of the Pascal cards that were released five years ago.
\n
\n
So, NVIDIA's gaming business could keep growing at a terrific pace over the next five years thanks to a combination of strong volumes and improved pricing. Jon Peddie Research estimates that 41.5 million discrete GPUs were sold in 2020, and NVIDIA dominated this market with a share of 82% at the end of the year. This bodes well for NVIDIA's future, as the GPU market is expected to clock annual growth of nearly 34% through 2027 as per third-party estimates.
\n
Beyond gaming, NVIDIA is sitting on huge opportunities in nascent markets such as self-driving cars. The company has struck several partnerships in this space and has already lined up automotive design wins worth $8 billion for the next five years. This figure could keep growing thanks to NVIDIA's solid product roadmap, which indicates that it is working on more powerful self-driving platforms that should hit the market in the coming years.
\n
Throw in the fact that NVIDIA's terrific growth in the data center market won't be fading any time soon, and investors will have one more reason to hold on to this tech titan. The data center business generated $6.7 billion in revenue in FY21, up 124% year over year. It accounted for 40% of the total revenue. NVIDIA is now branching out into new areas to ensure that this business keeps growing at elevated rates.
\n
It recently announced the Grace CPU, a server processor that's expected to go on sale in 2023. This would be new territory for NVIDIA, and success here could supercharge the company's data center business, as the server processor market is expected to be worth $19 billion by 2023.
\n
So, NVIDIA still has a lot of room for growth. Analysts forecast 20%-plus annual earnings growth for the next five years, though NVIDIA could do better if the new opportunities it is attacking bear fruit. In all, NVIDIA looks like a top stock where investors can park $5,000, as it is set for multi-year growth and trades at an attractive 36 times forward earnings as compared to 2020's average multiple of 46.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Today's Tech Sell-Off: Where to Invest $5,000 for the Next 5 Years
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nToday's Tech Sell-Off: Where to Invest $5,000 for the Next 5 Years\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-05-20 23:36 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
These tech giants might multiply your $5,000 investment substantially in the coming years.\nThe Nasdaq-100 Technology Sector index has retreated more than 7% in the past month, bringing down the ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"NVDA":"英伟达","AMD":"美国超微公司","NDX":"纳斯达克100指数"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/05/20/tech-sell-off-where-invest-5000-for-next-5-years/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1114639105","content_text":"These tech giants might multiply your $5,000 investment substantially in the coming years.\nThe Nasdaq-100 Technology Sector index has retreated more than 7% in the past month, bringing down the valuations of some fast-growing names in tech that were considered overvalued earlier. Let's find out why.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\n1. Advanced Micro Devices\nAMD's fortunes have changed big time over the past five years. A competitive product lineup has allowed it to take market share away from Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) in the x86 processor market, a trend that's expected to continue in the next five years.\nAMD DATA BY YCHARTS\nAMD has made solid progress in the PC market through its Ryzen CPUs (central processing units) and Radeon GPUs (graphics processing units). According to the latest data from Steam Hardware Survey for April, AMD now controls almost 29.5% of the PC CPU space. It controlled 25% of the market in December 2020, with Intel holding the rest. Steam data is a credible source for PC market share information, as the platform is used by 120 million monthly active users worldwide.\nMeanwhile, Mercury Research estimates that AMD's desktop PC market share increased to 19.3% at the end of the first quarter, up from just 11.4% four years ago. It also holds 18% of the mobile CPU market. AMD's CPU market share is expected to jump as high as 50% in 2021 as per Wall Street. This doesn't seem surprising given thetechnology advantage AMD enjoys over Intel, as well as Chipzilla's troubles with getting its latest chips out of the gate.\nAMD has also turned on the heat in the laptop market. The company's Ryzen 5000 mobile processors are expected to power 50% more models this year and pave the way for more market share gains.\nMeanwhile, AMD has made solid progress in the server processor market, finishing Q1 with an 8.9% share. It was nowhere to be seen in server processors four years ago, but the arrival of the EPYC chips has given it a big shot in the arm. AMD is poised to take away more market share from Intel in servers in the coming years and could make billions of dollars from this space.\nOn the other hand, the arrival of the latest gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft that are powered by AMD's chips is moving the needle in a big way for the chipmaker. The PlayStation 5 has sold 7.8 million units so far. It is expected to sell over 200 million units over its lifetime, according to an analyst at Japanese firm Rakuten Securities, as compared to 116 million units of the previous generation PS4.\nWhat's more, AMD is reportedly getting 80% more revenue from each unit of the PS5 over the PS4. So, a combination of higher shipments and stronger revenue from each gaming console should unlock a massive revenue opportunity for the company in the long run. Not surprisingly, analysts expect AMD to deliver almost 30% annual earnings growth over the next five years -- making it a top growth stock where one can park $5,000 right now, given that it is trading at less than 28 times forward earnings.\n2. NVIDIA\nNVIDIA has come a long way in the past five years. The chipmaker has branched out into several fast-growing applications such as data centers, artificial intelligence, autonomous cars, and 5G wireless networks from supplying graphics cards for gaming PCs.\nNVDA DATA BY YCHARTS\nGaming continues to be NVIDIA's biggest source of revenue, accounting for 46% of its top line last fiscal year. The segment's revenue was up 41% in fiscal 2021 to $7.7 billion, thanks to the launch of NVIDIA's new RTX 30 series graphics cards, which have set the sales charts on fire by triggering a massive upgrade cycle.\nNVIDIA estimates that 85% of its installed base is yet to upgrade to the RTX series cards, which pack a huge performance bump at aggressive price points over prior generation cards. That's a huge opportunity, as NVIDIA's installed base of gaming graphics cards stands at 140 million. More importantly, the company's new GPUs are driving an increase in the average selling price (ASP).\nThe latest Ampere-based GPUs recorded an ASP of $360 in the first six months of their launch thanks to an increase in the proportion of customers buying higher-priced cards. That's 20% higher than the previous generation Turing cards that had an ASP of $300 in the initial six months, and well above the $245 ASP of the Pascal cards that were released five years ago.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nSo, NVIDIA's gaming business could keep growing at a terrific pace over the next five years thanks to a combination of strong volumes and improved pricing. Jon Peddie Research estimates that 41.5 million discrete GPUs were sold in 2020, and NVIDIA dominated this market with a share of 82% at the end of the year. This bodes well for NVIDIA's future, as the GPU market is expected to clock annual growth of nearly 34% through 2027 as per third-party estimates.\nBeyond gaming, NVIDIA is sitting on huge opportunities in nascent markets such as self-driving cars. The company has struck several partnerships in this space and has already lined up automotive design wins worth $8 billion for the next five years. This figure could keep growing thanks to NVIDIA's solid product roadmap, which indicates that it is working on more powerful self-driving platforms that should hit the market in the coming years.\nThrow in the fact that NVIDIA's terrific growth in the data center market won't be fading any time soon, and investors will have one more reason to hold on to this tech titan. The data center business generated $6.7 billion in revenue in FY21, up 124% year over year. It accounted for 40% of the total revenue. NVIDIA is now branching out into new areas to ensure that this business keeps growing at elevated rates.\nIt recently announced the Grace CPU, a server processor that's expected to go on sale in 2023. This would be new territory for NVIDIA, and success here could supercharge the company's data center business, as the server processor market is expected to be worth $19 billion by 2023.\nSo, NVIDIA still has a lot of room for growth. Analysts forecast 20%-plus annual earnings growth for the next five years, though NVIDIA could do better if the new opportunities it is attacking bear fruit. In all, NVIDIA looks like a top stock where investors can park $5,000, as it is set for multi-year growth and trades at an attractive 36 times forward earnings as compared to 2020's average multiple of 46.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"NVDA":0.9,"AMD":0.9,"NDX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":828,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":346285378,"gmtCreate":1618048747394,"gmtModify":1704706322986,"author":{"id":"3579167848320394","authorId":"3579167848320394","name":"Juliantotans","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ef95ca83ff749e3e3273525996642c1","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579167848320394","idStr":"3579167848320394"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"like","listText":"like","text":"like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/346285378","repostId":"1142324412","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":364,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":893598140,"gmtCreate":1628276769380,"gmtModify":1703504414906,"author":{"id":"3579167848320394","authorId":"3579167848320394","name":"Juliantotans","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ef95ca83ff749e3e3273525996642c1","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579167848320394","idStr":"3579167848320394"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Big Digital, Inc.(BTBT)$fiuh","listText":"$Big Digital, Inc.(BTBT)$fiuh","text":"$Big Digital, Inc.(BTBT)$fiuh","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5fe0d521148676dd92545f0f53a479d6","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/893598140","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1253,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":191299073,"gmtCreate":1620878936692,"gmtModify":1704349782826,"author":{"id":"3579167848320394","authorId":"3579167848320394","name":"Juliantotans","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ef95ca83ff749e3e3273525996642c1","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579167848320394","idStr":"3579167848320394"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/191299073","repostId":"2135584610","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2135584610","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1620850937,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2135584610?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-13 04:22","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall Street ends with broad sell-off on spiking inflation fears","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2135584610","media":"Reuters","summary":"* Indexes down: Dow 1.99%, S&P 2.14%, Nasdaq 2.67%. economy","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1173244066","media":"CNN","summary":"London (CNN Business)Companies are gearing up for an era in which Covid-19 isn't the primary driver ","content":"
London (CNN Business)Companies are gearing up for an era in which Covid-19 isn't the primary driver of how people spend their money.
\n
The big question: As the coronavirus situation improves in countries like the United States, which trends from the past 14 months will have staying power, and which will be resigned to the pandemic past?
\n
Airbnb, DoorDash and Disney (DIS), which reported results after US markets closed on Thursday, provide some idea.
\n
Airbnb: The company said interest in travel is surging again as vaccines become more widely available, pointing to a sharp increase in bookings in the United Kingdom immediately after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced plans in February to gradually exit lockdown. For US customers aged 60 and above, searches on Airbnb for summer travel rose by more than 60% between February and March.
\n
The company is also ready for more customers to use Airbnb for longer-term stays as they take advantage of greater acceptance of remote work. It said that nearly a quarter of stays last quarter were for 28 days or more, up 14% from 2019. Shares are down slightly in premarket trading.
\n
DoorDash: People are still ordering lots of food delivery even as restaurants open back up for traditional dining. DoorDash reported a 198% jump in revenue last quarter to $1.1 billion even as it dealt with a shortage of workers, and increased its full-year outlook.
\n
\"As markets continued reopening and in-store dining increased across the US, the impact to our order volume was smaller than we expected, which contributed to strong performance in the quarter,\" the company said, though it cautioned that may have been partially attributable to stimulus checks. Shares are up almost 9% in premarket trading.
\n
Disney: Streaming has carried Disney through the pandemic, with Disney+ growing to more than 100 million subscribers. Yet the biggest star in Disney's media universe appears to be shining a little less bright, sending shares down 4%.
\n
The company said Thursday that Disney+ now has 103.6 million subscribers, below the 110 million Wall Street was expecting. That's forced investors to wonder: Is that because people are getting vaccinated and stepping away from streaming? Netflix also reported sluggish subscription growth last quarter.
\n
Down but not out: Disney said it remains on track to reach its long-term subscriber goals despite the apparent slowdown. It's betting that as the pandemic eases, it will be able to produce more movies and shows, helping to bring in new customers.
\n
Whether it's right will become clearer in the months ahead, which will pose the true test of whether people actually ditch their sweatpants, get out of the house and shake up the economy once again.
\n
It could get easier to get a credit card without a credit score
\n
For years, if you didn't have a credit score it was extremely difficult to get a credit card or certain types of loans. But a new plan among some of the nation's largest banks may help Americans without traditional credit histories get approved.
\n
Ten banks — including JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Wells Fargo (WFC) and U.S. Bancorp (USB) — have tentatively agreed to a plan to share data like bank account deposits and bill payment activity to help qualify borrowers without traditional credit histories, according to the Wall Street Journal.
\n
The push for financial institutions to come to a data sharing agreement came from a program run by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. The OCC has confirmed there is a plan, but the details of the agreement among the banks still need to be worked out.
\n
Should the proposed arrangement go through, it would mean that if you don't have a credit score but you have a bank account at Wells Fargo, for example, you can use that financial history to help you get a credit card with another bank, like JPMorgan Chase.
\n
\"This will give millions of Americans the opportunity to access credit that's essential to building wealth — buying a home, starting a business, or financing education,\" Trish Wexler, a spokesperson for JPMorgan Chase, told CNN Business.
\n
The backstory: There are currently 53 million people without a credit score, according to the Fair Isaac Corporation, the creator of FICO credit scores. These consumers, who are disproportionately lower income and people of color, face higher borrowing costs because they're forced to turn to products like payday loans.
\n
Banks and lenders refer to those without credit history as \"credit invisible.\" This group can include young people or recent immigrants, as well as people who haven't used credit in a long time or who have lost their access due to financial difficulties.
\n
The business angle: Big banks may also be eager to revise their policies as online upstarts chip away at demand for their products.
\n
\"Some of this cooperation among the biggest banks may be a bit of reaction to smaller banks and fintech companies infringing on their space,\" said Matt Schulz, chief industry analyst at LendingTree.
\n
Target will temporarily stop selling trading cards amid frenzy
\n
Target (TGT) has announced that it will stop selling trading cards in its stores following a violent dispute at one of its locations — a sign of just how overheated the market for collectibles has become.
\n
The details: Last week, a Target in Wisconsin was locked down after a man was physically assaulted by four others over sports trading cards.
\n
\"The safety of our guests and our team is our top priority,\" Target said in a statement. \"Out of an abundance of caution, we've decided to temporarily suspend the sale of MLB, NFL, NBA and Pokémon trading cards within our stores, effective [Friday].\"
\n
The cards will still be available online, the company said.
\n
Remember: The value of trading cards has skyrocketed in recent months during the Covid-19 pandemic. That's grabbed interest from both amateur and professional investors looking to cash in on spectacular returns.
\n
Target previously was limiting card purchases to just one item a day, saying that guests were lining up overnight to get their hands on hot items, per CNN affiliate WISN.
\n
Walmart (WMT), for its part, said it will keep selling cards in stores for now.
\n
\"We are determining what, if any, changes are needed to meet customer demand while ensuring a safe and enjoyable shopping experience,\" a spokesperson said in a statement.
\n
Up next
\n
Data on US retail sales, import and export prices and industrial production arrives at 8:30 a.m. ET.
\n
Coming next week: Home Depot (HD) and Lowe's (LOW) report earnings as the housing market booms.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; It's why, even though we are enjoying a beautiful spring week, Goldman notes that single stock options trading activity is elevated relative to historical levels. To wit, daily options volumes are up 70% in April, up from YTD lows of $2.4bn on 30-Mar.

In total, across single stocks, $544BN of options are set to expiry today, including $305BN calls. As such, today’s expiry could be important for stocks with large open interest in at-the-money(ATM) options, as market makers delta-hedging their unusually large options portfolios will be active. This flow is likely to dampen volatility in some names while exacerbating stock price moves in others.

How to trade this?

As Goldman's Vishal Vivek writes, at major expirations, options traders track situations wherea large amount of open interest is set to expire. In situations where there is a significant amount of expiring open interest in at-the-money strikes (strike prices at or very near the current stockprice), delta-hedging activity can impact the underlying stock’s trading that day. If market makers or other options traders who delta-hedge their positions are net long ATM options, expiration-related flow could have the effect of dampening stock price movements, causing the stock price to settle near the strike with large open interest. This situation is often referred to as a “pin” and can be an ideal situation fora large investor trying to enter/exit a stock position. Alternatively, if delta-hedgers are net short ATM options (have a “negative gamma” position), their hedging activity could exacerbate stock price moves.

What that means it expiration-related trades may cause trading activity to aggressively pick up for stocks with a significant amount of ATM open interest.

So to help traders looking to hop on for daytrading opportunities, here is a table identifying possible focus stocks with large ATM open interest expiring today, which is compared to the average daily volume of the underlying stocks. As Goldman puts it, \"expiration-related activity is likely to have more of an impact if the open interest represents a significant percentage of the stock’s volume.\"

Finally, for what it's worth, this morning our friends at SpotGamma write that this has been a rather strange OPEX cycle, \"with a consistent almost mechanical bid pushing markets higher. We’ve not seen the Call Wall “breached” this many times before, but there are other aberrations that we’ve mentioned in previous notes – like net put sales. We’ve got some theories on this we are posting in a longer form piece.\"

According to SG, because implied volatility has now compressed (ie VIX at new lows) there is now more potential for “long term” volatility. Recall how as of late any sharp, violent drop in markets was bought so quickly (see chart below). These bursts lower coincided with record VIX spikes, but a reflective snap-back bid would bring a market recovery of equal force as the VIX (i.e. implied volatility) reversed.

And one other curious observation from SpotGamma:

When implied volatility is very high, its very sensitive to market moves and also signaling that markets are expecting more large moves ahead. As soon as markets would pause or catch a support level, that implied volatility would quickly reverse lower. We often think of this analogy that if a shark stops swimming, it sinks ( partially true!). If the market stops dropping then Implied volatility sinks.

With this, as we often talk about, lower implied volatility (ie lower VIX) signals market makers have to buy back short hedges which fuels rallies. It's why, even though we are enjoying a beautiful spring week, Goldman notes that single stock options trading activity is elevated relative to historical levels. To wit, daily options volumes are up 70% in April, up from YTD lows of $2.4bn on 30-Mar.In total, across single stocks, $544BN of options are set to expiry today, including $305BN calls.As such, today’s expiry could be important for stocks with large open interest in at-the-money(ATM) options, as market makers delta-hedging their unusually large options portfolios will be active. This flow is likely to dampen volatility in some names while exacerbating stock price moves in others.How to trade this?As Goldman's Vishal Vivek writes, at major expirations, options traders track situations wherea large amount of open interest is set to expire.In situations where there is a significant amount of expiring open interest in at-the-money strikes (strike prices at or very near the current stockprice), delta-hedging activity can impact the underlying stock’s trading that day. If market makers or other options traders who delta-hedge their positions are net long ATM options, expiration-related flow could have the effect of dampening stock price movements, causing the stock price to settle near the strike with large open interest. This situation is often referred to as a “pin” and can be an ideal situation fora large investor trying to enter/exit a stock position. Alternatively, if delta-hedgers are net short ATM options (have a “negative gamma” position), their hedging activity could exacerbate stock price moves.What that means it expiration-related trades may cause trading activity to aggressively pick up for stocks with a significant amount of ATM open interest.So to help traders looking to hop on for daytrading opportunities, here is a table identifying possible focus stocks with large ATM open interest expiring today, which is compared to the average daily volume of the underlying stocks. As Goldman puts it, \"expiration-related activity is likely to have more of an impact if the open interest represents a significant percentage of the stock’s volume.\"Finally, for what it's worth, this morning our friends at SpotGamma write that this has been a rather strange OPEX cycle, \"with a consistent almost mechanical bid pushing markets higher. We’ve not seen the Call Wall “breached” this many times before, but there are other aberrations that we’ve mentioned in previous notes – like net put sales. We’ve got some theories on this we are posting in a longer form piece.\"According to SG, because implied volatility has now compressed (ie VIX at new lows) there is now more potential for “long term” volatility. Recall how as of late any sharp, violent drop in markets was bought so quickly (see chart below).These bursts lower coincided with record VIX spikes, but a reflective snap-back bid would bring a market recovery of equal force as the VIX (i.e. implied volatility) reversed.And one other curious observation from SpotGamma:When implied volatility is very high, its very sensitive to market moves and also signaling that markets are expecting more large moves ahead. As soon as markets would pause or catch a support level, that implied volatility would quickly reverse lower. We often think of this analogy that if a shark stops swimming, it sinks ( partially true!). If the market stops dropping then Implied volatility sinks.With this, as we often talk about, lower implied volatility (ie lower VIX) signals market makers have to buy back short hedges which fuels rallies. SG's conclusion: this current level of lower implied volatility now gives the market more downside firepower. Starting with a lower implied volatility “slows down” that responsive “snap-back” buying mechanism. Additionally, gamma is higher when IV is lower so gamma flips may have more juice.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".DJI":0.9,".IXIC":0.9,"SPY":0.9,".SPX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":515,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3578819428738173","authorId":"3578819428738173","name":"EdwardKarchi","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8393250f23521cbb5d95b0a87f3f846f","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"authorIdStr":"3578819428738173","idStr":"3578819428738173"},"content":"Please response my commenT","text":"Please response my commenT","html":"Please response my commenT"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":348845553,"gmtCreate":1617922166572,"gmtModify":1704704746729,"author":{"id":"3579167848320394","authorId":"3579167848320394","name":"Juliantotans","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ef95ca83ff749e3e3273525996642c1","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579167848320394","idStr":"3579167848320394"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Huh","listText":"Huh","text":"Huh","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/348845553","repostId":"1101689800","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":231,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":354187690,"gmtCreate":1617151942610,"gmtModify":1704696435653,"author":{"id":"3579167848320394","authorId":"3579167848320394","name":"Juliantotans","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ef95ca83ff749e3e3273525996642c1","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579167848320394","idStr":"3579167848320394"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good news","listText":"Good news","text":"Good news","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/354187690","repostId":"2123217693","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":469,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":189492944,"gmtCreate":1623284274888,"gmtModify":1704199954000,"author":{"id":"3579167848320394","authorId":"3579167848320394","name":"Juliantotans","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ef95ca83ff749e3e3273525996642c1","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579167848320394","idStr":"3579167848320394"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/189492944","repostId":"1107886026","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":393,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":134352193,"gmtCreate":1622209337212,"gmtModify":1704181522149,"author":{"id":"3579167848320394","authorId":"3579167848320394","name":"Juliantotans","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8ef95ca83ff749e3e3273525996642c1","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579167848320394","idStr":"3579167848320394"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SEA LTD(SE)$Let's board the train before too late","listText":"$SEA LTD(SE)$Let's board the train before too late","text":"$SEA LTD(SE)$Let's board the train before too late","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/60bf2dd454689692a9cd51791e814fa4","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/134352193","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":838,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
