This implies that Alibaba&#39;s shares have room to correct further, in order to justify its subpar growth rate.</p><p>There are at least 14 other stocks classified in the internet retail industry, that are growing faster than Alibaba but trading at lower P/S multiples. This disparity is all the more prominent when we consider that Alibaba&#39;s US-listed shares offer an ownership only in a shell company floated in Cayman Islands, whereas its other attractively-priced US-based peers offer ownership in actual companies. Because of this difference in the nature of securities, Alibaba&#39;s shares should ideally be trading at a discount compared to its US-based peers in the first place, but it&#39;s actually trading at a slight premium instead. This should encourage contrarian investors to reconsider their thesis for the e-commerce giant.</p><p><b>The Growth Slowdown</b></p><p>Moving on, the Chinese government hasn&#39;t hiked its interest rates in recent months, unlike the US. This suggests the Chinese economy will continue growing at a relatively faster pace and companies operating there should, at least in theory, thrive while other global economies stagnate and/or go into recession. This industry tailwind should indeed boost Alibaba&#39;s growth prospects and it&#39;s admittedly a silver lining in the whole contrarian narrative.</p><p>But there&#39;s a problem here as well. Hindering consumer spending in Q3 may trigger a more profound slowdown for Alibaba and other similarly positioned Chinese e-commerce companies, negating the positives of low interest rates in the country. This is gradually reflected in the Street&#39;s forecasts - note how analysts have been gradually lowering their revenue estimates for the company in nearly every passing week.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e2fe58214fe586338142e205e80429ea\" tg-width=\"637\" tg-height=\"437\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Ycharts</p><p>This situation should again encourage investors to rethink their rationale for Alibaba.</p><p><b>The Delisting Risk</b></p><p>Lastly, contrarian investors are hopeful that delisting fears pertaining to Alibaba are exaggerated and not really a matter of concern. However, the risk is very real. The SEC published a yet another list about 10 days ago, noting that Alibaba and 270 other Chinese companies will be forcefully delisted from US bourses if they don&#39;t open up for audit inspections.</p><p>Chinese regulators had reassured investors earlier this year that they&#39;re going to work with the SEC and comply with their audit requirements, in order to prevent mass delisting of Chinese stocks from US bourses. But I&#39;ve been warning investors that the regulators haven&#39;t been making any progress and the risk remains. The prospect of such progress seems even more unlikely now.</p><p>One might argue that Alibaba is listed on Hong Kong bourses so a delisting in the US won&#39;t make a difference. But it will. The prospect of Alibaba&#39;s shares getting delisted in the US, is likely to prompt a mass selloff by institutional investors that have mandates to invest in only US stocks. Besides, the financial cost of owning Hong Kong-listed stocks is far higher for US citizens, so retail investors are likely to sell their shares too in large numbers.</p><p>Moreover, it&#39;s not like Hong Kong-listed shares have been performing any better than their US-listed shares. In the 57 years he's held the reins at Berkshire, he's led his company's Class A shares (BRK.A) to an average annual return of 20.1%, which equates to an aggregate return of more than 3,600,000%.Buffett's success as an investor is due tomyriad factors, including a willingness to hold investments for long periods of time, as well as his love of cyclical companies and dividend stocks.But something you may not know about the Oracle of Omaha is that he has a secret portfolio containing $6.3 billion in assets under management, as of March 31, 2022. While it's relatively easy to follow Buffett's trading activity via 13F filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, you won't find these holdings in Berkshire's 13F filing.In 1998, Buffett's company acquired insurer General Re for $22 billion. While the prized asset of the General Re buyout was the company's reinsurance operations, General Re also controlled specialty investment firm New England Asset Management (NEAM).To be perfectly clear, Warren Buffett and the investing team making the decisions for Berkshire Hathaway's more than $350 billion investment portfolio don't oversee NEAM's $6.3 billion investment portfolio. Nevertheless, New England Asset Management is an owned entity of Buffett's company. This means the assets held in NEAM's investment portfolio are, ultimately, \"owned\" by the Oracle of Omaha.With $6.3 billion in assets under management, New England Asset Management is required to file a 13F just like its parent company. But unlike Berkshire Hathaway, NEAM has its fingers in more than three times as many securities as Berkshire (52 for Berkshire, compared to more than 160 for NEAM).What's similar is that Buffett's secret portfolio has invested the vast majority of its assets into a small concentration of sectors. In New England Asset Management's case, 95% of its assets are invested in just the following two sectors.Technology: 57.49% of invested assetsThe sector Warren Buffett's secret portfolio unquestionably favors the most is information technology. In total, NEAM has positions in 17 different tech stocks, including software behemoth Microsoft, semiconductor solutions-specialist Broadcom, payroll solutions-provider Paychex, and legacy stalwarts like HP and IBM.But here's the jaw-dropping stat that really defines New England Asset Management's \"love of tech.\" Out of the 57.49% of assets invested in information technology at the end of March, virtually all of it (56.62%) was tied up in Apple . This means the other 16 tech stocks held by NEAM make up just 0.87% of invested assets, on a combined basis!There's certainly something to be said about Berkshire Hathaway and New England Asset Management sharing their largest positions. Then again, Apple has given investors an abundance of reasons to trust in the company over the long run.To begin with, Apple is arguably the most valuable and recognized brand in the world. Earlier this year, Brand Finance labeled Apple as the world's most valuable brand for a second consecutive year. Brand Finance cited the company's range of services, its bolstered privacy and environmental push, and its diversified product line as reasons for hanging onto the top spot among global brands.Innovation is another reason Apple has been such a superstar for the investing community. Since Apple introduced a 5G-capable version of its iPhone in the fourth quarter of 2020, its U.S. smartphone market share has held at 50% or above in 5 out of 6 quarters, according to Counterpoint Research.But it's not just product innovation that's driving results. Apple CEO Tim Cook is overseeing an ongoing transition of his company to a service-oriented business. A subscription-driven model should help boost long-term operating margins and lessen the bumpiness often associated with product-replacement cycles. Keep in mind that Apple isn't abandoning the product line that brought it fame. The company is simply evolving in order to grow.Apple is also in a league of its own when it comes to capital-return programs. In addition to returning more than $14 billion a year to investors in the form of a dividend, the company has repurchased close to $520 billion worth of its common stock since initiating a buyback program in 2013. That's not pocket change, and it's an easy way to get the attention of Warren Buffet and New England Asset Management's investment-portfolio managers.Financials: 37.45% of invested assetsThe second sector that New England Asset Management has absolutely piled into is (drum roll) financials! Did you expect anything else from a company with an insurance-based background?As a whole, NEAM holds stakes in 51 financial securities. I say \"securities,\" because NEAM invests in stocks, exchange-traded funds, and preferred stock. But once again, only a small handful of these investments account for the lion's share of the 37.45% of invested assets tied up in financial stocks. This includes U.S. Bancorp , Bank of America , the SPDR S&P 500 ETF, and the Bank of New York Mellon.Together, these four securities account for 32.98% of the 37.45% in financial sector-invested assets. You might note that Berkshire Hathaway has stakes in all four of these financial securities, too, in its portfolio.Regional bank U.S. Bancorp and money-center giant Bank of America each make up about 14.9% of invested assets (29.8% on a combined basis). When held for long periods of time, bank stocks benefit from the disproportionately longer period of time the U.S. economy spends expanding, relative to contracting.Although downturns are inevitable, the U.S. economy naturally expands over time. That allows U.S. Bancorp and Bank of America to grow their loans and deposits.Bank of America and U.S. Bancorp are also benefiting from a combination of rising interest rates and digitization investments. The former noted in its June-ended quarterly investor presentation that a 100 basis-point parallel shift in the interest-rate yield curve would generate an estimated $5 billion in added net-interest income over 12 months.Meanwhile, U.S. Bancorp has set the standard for digital engagement. The analyst notes a highly engaged customer based and also highlighted frequency hitting an all-time high in the quarter.</p>\n<p>“DashPass subscribers grew more than 2x as fast as non-DashPass MAUs year-over-year,” Josey said.</p>\n<p>DoorDash management said its order frequency has not reached its peak yet, Fitzgerald added.</p>\n<p>A focus on gross profit dollars and reinvestment in growth initiatives was called out by Erickson in the updated note.</p>\n<p>“On top of beating gross order volume, revenue and EBITDA and raising its FY guide, specific encouraging demand highlights includes 300 bps of U.S. shares gains year-over-year,” Erickson said.</p>\n<p>The analyst noted&nbsp;company management mentioned progress in Canada and Australia and other international launches coming.</p>\n<p>“Volume growth was the highlight of 2Q earnings to us, highlighting consumer delivery habits are still sticky late into the pandemic,” McTernan said. The analyst was surprised by the upside in volume in the late stages of the pandemic.</p>\n<p><b>Non-Food Delivery Growth:</b> Sandler highlighted the growth of DoorDash in non-restaurant areas like grocery, convenience, pets and alcohol. This segment is helping drive frequency, retention and efficiency for the company with frequency hitting record highs in the quarter.</p>\n<p>DoorDash’s non-restaurant orders could have been placed by 10% of the company’s users in the second quarter, compared to 7% of orders in the first quarter, Josey said.</p>\n<p>The analyst also noted&nbsp;the addition of more than 5,000 convenience stores in the second quarter including <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WBA\">Walgreens Boots Alliance</a> Inc</b> (NASDAQ:WBA), <b>Rite Aid Corporation</b> (NYSE:RAD), <b>Albertsons Companies Inc</b> (NYSE:ACI), <b>PetSmart</b> and <b>Bed Bath &amp; Beyond Inc.</b>&nbsp;(NASDAQ:BBBY) locations.</p>\n<p>“Over 30% of DASH’s business came from orders outside restaurants in Q2, early data suggest that multi-category customers increase both their retention and engagement rates,” Fitzgerald said.</p>\n<p><b>What’s Next: </b>International growth, investments in new categories and a healthy supply of Dashers are highlighted by Josey.</p>\n<p>“DASH deserves a premium to the peer set,” Sandler said.</p>\n<p>“We expect DASH shares to continue to grind higher as its U.S. market share and momentum continue to resonate,” Fitzgerald said. “If DASH can replicate the operational prowess it has demonstrated in the U.S. as a fast follower in international markets, we think shares have significantly more upside in the coming years.”</p>\n<p>Additional grocery delivery is expected to roll out in the second half of the year “providing opportunities to become a second logistics source for some key accounts,” highlights Fitzgerald.</p>\n<p>DoorDash has some regulatory headwinds in large cities such as&nbsp;San Francisco and New York City but Lee sees these being less than feared. Powell also said the U.S. job market still had “some ground to cover” before it would be time to pull back from the economic support the U.S. central bank put in place in the spring of 2020 to battle the coronavirus pandemic’s economic shocks.</p>\n<p>“It looks like probably the most positive thing for the market was that they are nowhere near increasing interest rates,” said Alan Lancz, president, Alan B. Lancz &amp; Associates Inc, an investment advisory firm based in Toledo, Ohio.</p>\n<p>Right after the Fed statement, the S&amp;P 500 index reversed slight declines though it still ended a hair lower on the day.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/ISBC\">Investors</a> have been worried about how rising inflation and a spike in COVID-19 cases might impact the central bank’s plan to potentially start withdrawing its stimulus.</p>\n<p>The central bank also said that higher inflation remained the result of “transitory factors.” The Fed kept its overnight benchmark interest rate near zero and left unchanged its bond-buying program.</p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NDAQ\">Nasdaq</a> ended higher and shares of Google parent <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/GOOG\">Alphabet</a> Inc hit an all-time high as a surge in advertising spending helped it post record quarterly results. The stock ended up 3.2%.</p>\n<p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 127.59 points, or 0.36%, to 34,930.93, the S&amp;P 500 lost 0.82 point, or 0.02%, to 4,400.64 and the Nasdaq Composite added 102.01 points, or 0.7%, to 14,762.58.</p>\n<p>The Fed’s statement came at the conclusion of its latest two-day policy meeting.</p>\n<p>“They had a chance to signal they were going to become more hawkish and they chose not to take it. The most important thing is they are predictable and they are remaining predictable,” said Ellen Hazen, portfolio manager at F.L. Lancz & Associates Inc, an investment advisory firm based in Toledo, Ohio.\nRight after the Fed statement, the S&P 500 index reversed slight declines though it still ended a hair lower on the day.\nInvestors have been worried about how rising inflation and a spike in COVID-19 cases might impact the central bank’s plan to potentially start withdrawing its stimulus.\nThe central bank also said that higher inflation remained the result of “transitory factors.” The Fed kept its overnight benchmark interest rate near zero and left unchanged its bond-buying program.\nThe Nasdaq ended higher and shares of Google parent Alphabet Inc hit an all-time high as a surge in advertising spending helped it post record quarterly results. You might note that Berkshire Hathaway has stakes in all four of these financial securities, too, in its portfolio.Regional bank U.S. Bancorp and money-center giant Bank of America each make up about 14.9% of invested assets (29.8% on a combined basis). Looking at the average yield column you can see that Apple’s current average yield is the lowest since Apple first started paying a dividend. This indicates Apple is a screaming sell. On the flip side, the last time Apple’s average yield was above 2% was in 2016. At that time Apple was a screaming buy. Coincidentally that was the same year Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) began buying Apple shares.</p>\n<p>The reason this works is because the dividend yield is a product of the share price. At the peak of 2018 Apple’s dividend yield was 1.28%. At this time, Apple’s 5-year yield average was 1.86%. When 2018 ended Apple’s dividend yield was 1.97%. As you can now see, a company’s dividend yield can be a good proxy for value.</p>\n<p><b>This Time Is not different</b></p>\n<p>I know some of you at this point are thinking, well, Dividend Yield Theory is nice and all but thanks to Covid this time is different. I don’t believe this time is different for Apple and the reason is because of Apple’s maturity as a business prior to the pandemic.</p>\n<p>It is true that Apple and many other tech companies are benefiting from the pandemic, but Apple has a significant difference from a Shopify, a Zoom, and a Disney Plus. Namely Apple had already largely penetrated its total addressable market. Prior to the pandemic, most of us had never heard of Zoom. We started working from home and needed a solution for remote communication, and bam Zoom capitalizes. Prior to the pandemic, the iPhone was still the smartphone to beat, the smartphone with tens of millions of users, the must-have status symbol in places as far away as China. I spent a semester abroad in China in 2012. During that time, my professors told us how important status symbols are to the Chinese. Students of all ages would not go to school until their parents had bought them an iPhone because without it they would lose “face”. Many could not afford the phone plans and I and my friends witnessed many people having an iPhone just for show. That was in 2012, 8 years before the pandemic.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9ae87be3f096ac0a13d2e38634b8c34c\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"310\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Source: Apple Q3 2021*covers Apr – Jun 2021*</span></p>\n<p>As we can see, the majority of Apple’s revenue comes from products. Further down products are identified as the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Wearables, Home &amp; Accessories.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3ef98109e802b72a60990d870e23814d\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"114\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"></p>\n<p>Again the iPhone makes up the majority. The high growth rate in iPhone sales also backs up the theory that this round of growth is due to the Apple super cycle which seems to take place once every 3 years.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b71f026725256789694ea1ff46574c4a\" tg-width=\"393\" tg-height=\"256\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Source: Seeking Alpha Financials, compiled by author</span></p>\n<p>The pattern for the last 10 years has been 1 year of stellar growth followed by 2 years of much slower growth. As you can see this results in a 10-year CAGR of ~10% - 13% depending on where we are in the cycle.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a62395de39d598a2d5fb553eca56086d\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"516\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Source: Apple2017 10-K</span></p>\n<p>Here we see the 2015 super cycle followed by the growth declines in 2016 and 2017.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0e63c1a8fd16ae504ee3794c0eff4198\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"535\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Source: Apple2020 10-K</span></p>\n<p>Again it happened in the more recent super cycle of 2018 followed by declines in growth for years 2019 and 2020.</p>\n<p>When we look into the revenue by product for these periods, we can see that iPhone sales decline and the other categories are unable to make up for the loss of revenue the next year. In the following year, 2017 and 2020, other sources of revenue increased enough for Apple’s total revenue to increase.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2e3954b0d588d038dc2dd5e88c39c5ec\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"131\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"></p>\n<p>Patterns are likely to repeat until something happens to change them. I don't see such a catalyst on the horizon, and currently iPhone sales are again carrying Apple’s revenue to record levels. iPhone sales seem to be selling so well because of the coming transition to 5G and many iPhone owners have a device that is at least 3 years old.</p>\n<p>The iPhone 12 was unveiled and released in October 2020. This means the super cycle is expected to end with the iPhone 13 which is expected to come out in September or October. I believe this indicates FY 2022 will be a rough year for Apple shareholders.</p>\n<p><b>Apple’s Third And Final Act - A Cash Cow</b></p>\n<p>Investors need to pay attention to Apple’s future as a dividend aristocrat. Apple is transitioning toward more service based revenues. This is a higher margin business but there is less explosive innovation, meaning growth will decline.</p>\n<p>At the current share price, investors are “locking in” a targeted return of 9% over the next 10 years based on some optimistic assumptions.</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Growth of 19.3% for the first 5 years followed by 12% growth for the second five years.</li>\n <li>An expected dividend growth rate of 17.5%</li>\n <li>Apple reverts to their historic P/E of 21.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>All of that together means Apple’s share price in 10 years will be $293.47 and the dividend will be at $4.43 a share giving existing shareholders a yield of 1.5% which is much closer to their current 5-year average yield.</p>\n<p>Apple’s dividend payout ratio is currently 15.86%. Other companies in the IT sector like Texas Instruments (TXN), and Intuit (INTU) have a payout ratio of 51% and 25% respectively which shows Apple’s dividends will be much higher in the coming years. With a projected EPS of $14 in 2031 a 51% payout would mean a dividend of $7/sh.</p>\n<p><b>Risk and Opportunity, The Dividend increase</b></p>\n<p>Based on the 5 year average dividend yield and the current rate of dividend increases, it is likely the dividend will be increased to $1.03-$1.14. In order for Apple to maintain its historic yield at the projected future dividend, Apple shares would have to trade around $80. it is possible that Apple pays up and raises their dividend to $1.89. Apple spent $14 billion on their dividend in 2020 and raising it to $1.89 will increase the price tag to $31 billion. This would increase their payout ratio to 34% which is a typical payout ratio for cash cow companies.</p>\n<p>The expected dividend I project is based on the percentage of operating cash flow the dividend takes up. Over the last 3 years, it has ranged from 15% to 18%. The super cycle will end. Now, many investors realize the market can actually go down.</p>\n<p><b>What to do now</b></p>\n<p>The next time the market plunges and you’re experiencing a variety of emotions, the following guide might help:</p>\n<p><b>1. If you’re panicked</b>: Don’t do something; sit there. Do not buy, do not sell, just sit tight. In fact, turn off the computer or other devices.
