The number of countries impacted was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Investors reacted strongly to the latest news, sending chip names down on Monday. Nvidia shares were down 2%, while the SOX chip index was off 0.4%. The policy, critics contend, could ultimately strengthen China’s AI chips by making them the standard for those countries to build upon.

The good news for Nvidia is the new rules won’t take effect until after a 120-day comment period. Judging from statements against Biden’s prior AI executive order and against onerous AI regulations, the incoming Trump administration is likely to revoke or change the policy before that happens.

In October 2023, the Biden administration issued an executive order on artificial intelligence, invoking the Defense Production Act. It required companies to report and send test results to the government when developing more powerful versions of AI systems among other regulations.

Trump made repealing the AI executive order a central tenet of his presidential campaign. “We will repeal Joe Biden’s dangerous Executive Order that hinders AI Innovation,” his campaign platform said.

The Trump transition team didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the latest AI restrictions.

It’s likely Trump will revamp any AI chip policy to fit his administration’s objectives.

“We will WIN the battle for A.I. superiority, which is key to National Security and our Nation’s Prosperity,” Trump said in late November, when he nominated Gov. Doug Burgum to lead the Interior Department, adding the U.S. would lead in AI technology innovation by cutting regulation.

Nvidia’s business would likely see a boost if the Trump administration eases the buildout of AI infrastructure and relaxes rules around the development of nuclear reactors, which could be critical in providing sufficient energy for AI projects in the next decade.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Biden’s Latest AI Rules Sink Chip Stocks. The company is speaking out against the Biden administration’s latest chip export rules. On Monday, the Commerce Department outlined new rules that impose caps on how many advanced artificial intelligence chips can be exported to certain countries, along with additional licensing requirements for AI technology.“This policy will help build a trusted technology ecosystem around the world and allow us to protect against the national security risks associated with AI, while ensuring controls do not stifle innovation or US technological leadership,” U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said in a press release.Raimondo said the new restrictions would keep advanced AI technology away from America’s adversaries. The key difference in Monday’s announcement is the expansion of AI chip restrictions, licensing approvals, or caps to more than 120 countries beyond China. The number of countries impacted was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.Investors reacted strongly to the latest news, sending chip names down on Monday. Nvidia shares were down 2%, while the SOX chip index was off 0.4%. Shares of Micron Technology, a maker of AI server memory, fell 4.3%.But the selloff could prove short-lived, with the incoming Trump administration likely to take a different approach to AI controls.Nvidia’s prospects for the China market were already diminished from prior restrictions put into place in late 2023. Those rules meant long-term revenue from China have curtailed as AI chip technology has advanced.Nvidia says the new Biden policy is “unprecedented” and puts U.S. AI leadership in “jeopardy.”“In its last days in office, the Biden Administration seeks to undermine America’s leadership with a 200+ page regulatory morass, drafted in secret and without proper legislative review,” Ned Finkle, Nvidia’s vice president of government affairs, said in a statement. “This sweeping overreach would impose bureaucratic control over how America’s leading semiconductors, computers, systems, and even software are designed and marketed globally.”Part of Nvidia’s thinking is that by making it more onerous and difficult for companies in most of the world to attain Nvidia’s chips, it opens the door for China to expand its market share in the countries on the U.S. restriction list. Judging from statements against Biden’s prior AI executive order and against onerous AI regulations, the incoming Trump administration is likely to revoke or change the policy before that happens. In October 2023, the Biden administration issued an executive order on artificial intelligence, invoking the Defense Production Act. It required companies to report and send test results to the government when developing more powerful versions of AI systems among other regulations.Trump made repealing the AI executive order a central tenet of his presidential campaign. “We will repeal Joe Biden’s dangerous Executive Order that hinders AI Innovation,” his campaign platform said. The Trump transition team didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the latest AI restrictions. It’s likely Trump will revamp any AI chip policy to fit his administration’s objectives.“We will WIN the battle for A.I. superiority, which is key to National Security and our Nation’s Prosperity,” Trump said in late November, when he nominated Gov. Doug Burgum to lead the Interior Department, adding the U.S. would lead in AI technology innovation by cutting regulation.Nvidia’s business would likely see a boost if the Trump administration eases the buildout of AI infrastructure and relaxes rules around the development of nuclear reactors, which could be critical in providing sufficient energy for AI projects in the next decade.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":66,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":383870531121720,"gmtCreate":1734759716138,"gmtModify":1734759720164,"author":{"id":"3581486017808713","authorId":"3581486017808713","name":"Benshine","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/41c28b429b5608e4b3bd3a6a13d289b1","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3581486017808713","idStr":"3581486017808713"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Buffet see 1st, we cannot see. In this article, we are going to take a look at where Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) stands against the other energy stocks.
\n
In an interview on October 3 with CNBC, Andy Critchlow, who serves as the head of news for the EMEA region at S&P Global Commodity Insights, discussed the current state of the oil market and the potential implications of various geopolitical events on oil prices.
\n
Critchlow noted that the oil market is facing “dangerous times” due to a high level of geopolitical risk and that it’s hard for anyone in that market to gauge the direction of the market. However, he pointed out that this geopolitical uncertainty has not yet been reflected in the price of oil, despite events between Israel and Iran and numerous attacks on oil shipping in the Strait of Hormuz over the past two years. The price of oil has not surged significantly and there is no geopolitical risk premium as oil still is currently trading at less than $75 per barrel.
\n
Critchlow also discussed the potential impact of a disruption to Iranian oil supplies, which account for around 4% of global supply. He noted that any attack on Iranian oil facilities or refineries could have a significant knock-on effect in the region. However, Critchlow noted that the market is looking ahead to next year and the potential for an excessive supply, there is already an idled supply of 5.6 million barrels per day on the sidelines.
\n
According to Critchlow, the oil market is also challenged by supply and demand imbalances and the potential for a price war between OPEC+ members is a real concern. Critchlow commented on recent comments from the Saudi Energy Minister on October 2, who warned of the potential for $50 oil if OPEC+ members don’t stick to agreed-upon production limits. Critchlow interpreted this as a veiled threat, suggesting that Saudi Arabia may be prepared to start a price war if other members of the OPEC+ alliance do not comply with production cuts.
\n
According to Critchlow, Russian crude was displaced from its traditional European markets and flowed into China and India, which are some of the biggest drivers for the oil market. These were the markets that Saudi Arabia effectively owned with its major Gulf partners in OPEC and that is why Saudi’s market has been squeezed in its core markets by Russia.
\n
While the current price of oil remains relatively stable, the underlying risks and challenges suggest that a significant shift in the market could be on the horizon. With that in context let’s take a look at the 10 best energy stocks to buy according to hedge funds.
\n Maridav/Shutterstock.com \n
Our Methodology
\n
To compile our list of the 10 best energy stocks to buy according to hedge funds, we used the Finviz and Yahoo stock screeners to find the largest energy companies. We then narrowed our choices to 10 stocks according to their hedge fund sentiment, which was taken from our database of 912 elite hedge funds as of Q2 of 2024. The list is sorted in ascending order of their hedge fund sentiment, as of the second quarter.
\n
Why do we care about what hedge funds do? The reason is simple: our research has shown that we can outperform the market by imitating the top stock picks of the best hedge funds. Our quarterly newsletter’s strategy selects 14 small-cap and large-cap stocks every quarter and has returned 275% since May 2014, beating its benchmark by 150 percentage points (see more details here).
\n
Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY)
\n
Number of Hedge Fund Investors: 62
\n
Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) is a U.S.-based oil and gas exploration company with operations in the U.S., the Middle East, and Latin America. The company is well-regarded for its strong presence in shale oil production, particularly in the Permian Basin located in the southwestern United States, the DJ basins, and the offshore Gulf of Mexico.
\n
Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) is one of the biggest producers of oil in the Permian Basin, where it owns roughly 2.8 million net acres of land. On August 1, Occidental Petroleum announced the completion of its acquisition of CrownRock for approximately $12 billion. This acquisition was primarily motivated by CrownRock’s assets in the Midland Basin, which complement Occidental Petroleum’s focus in the Permian Basin. The acquisition resulted in a 33% increase in Occidental Petroleum Corporation’s (NYSE:OXY) inventory of breakeven locations for prices below $40 per barrel. In this article, we are going to take a look at where Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) stands against the other energy stocks.\nIn an interview on October 3 with CNBC, Andy Critchlow, who serves as the head of news for the EMEA region at S&P Global Commodity Insights, discussed the current state of the oil market and the potential implications of various geopolitical events on oil prices.\nCritchlow noted that the oil market is facing “dangerous times” due to a high level of geopolitical risk and that it’s hard for anyone in that market to gauge the direction of the market. However, he pointed out that this geopolitical uncertainty has not yet been reflected in the price of oil, despite events between Israel and Iran and numerous attacks on oil shipping in the Strait of Hormuz over the past two years. The price of oil has not surged significantly and there is no geopolitical risk premium as oil still is currently trading at less than $75 per barrel.\nCritchlow also discussed the potential impact of a disruption to Iranian oil supplies, which account for around 4% of global supply. He noted that any attack on Iranian oil facilities or refineries could have a significant knock-on effect in the region. However, Critchlow noted that the market is looking ahead to next year and the potential for an excessive supply, there is already an idled supply of 5.6 million barrels per day on the sidelines.\nAccording to Critchlow, the oil market is also challenged by supply and demand imbalances and the potential for a price war between OPEC+ members is a real concern. Critchlow commented on recent comments from the Saudi Energy Minister on October 2, who warned of the potential for $50 oil if OPEC+ members don’t stick to agreed-upon production limits. Critchlow interpreted this as a veiled threat, suggesting that Saudi Arabia may be prepared to start a price war if other members of the OPEC+ alliance do not comply with production cuts.\nAccording to Critchlow, Russian crude was displaced from its traditional European markets and flowed into China and India, which are some of the biggest drivers for the oil market. These were the markets that Saudi Arabia effectively owned with its major Gulf partners in OPEC and that is why Saudi’s market has been squeezed in its core markets by Russia.\nWhile the current price of oil remains relatively stable, the underlying risks and challenges suggest that a significant shift in the market could be on the horizon. With that in context let’s take a look at the 10 best energy stocks to buy according to hedge funds.\n Maridav/Shutterstock.com \nOur Methodology\nTo compile our list of the 10 best energy stocks to buy according to hedge funds, we used the Finviz and Yahoo stock screeners to find the largest energy companies. We then narrowed our choices to 10 stocks according to their hedge fund sentiment, which was taken from our database of 912 elite hedge funds as of Q2 of 2024. The list is sorted in ascending order of their hedge fund sentiment, as of the second quarter.\nWhy do we care about what hedge funds do? The reason is simple: our research has shown that we can outperform the market by imitating the top stock picks of the best hedge funds. Our quarterly newsletter’s strategy selects 14 small-cap and large-cap stocks every quarter and has returned 275% since May 2014, beating its benchmark by 150 percentage points (see more details here).\nOccidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) \nNumber of Hedge Fund Investors: 62 \nOccidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) is a U.S.-based oil and gas exploration company with operations in the U.S., the Middle East, and Latin America. The company is well-regarded for its strong presence in shale oil production, particularly in the Permian Basin located in the southwestern United States, the DJ basins, and the offshore Gulf of Mexico.\nOccidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) is one of the biggest producers of oil in the Permian Basin, where it owns roughly 2.8 million net acres of land. The outlook for production growth at Occidental Petroleum (NYSE:OXY) appears favorable.\nOccidental Petroleum (NYSE:OXY) is also focusing on its debt reduction and divestiture goals. As of Q3, the company achieved a $3 billion reduction in principal debt. A recent public offering of a portion of Occidental Petroleum’s (NYSE:OXY) common units in Western Midstream Partners, raised $700 million, bringing the company’s total divestments for 2024 to approximately $1.7 billion in closed or announced deals.\nOverall OXY ranks 6th on our list of the oversold tech stocks to buy. While we acknowledge the potential of OXY as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and doing so within a shorter timeframe. If you are looking for an AI stock that is more promising than OXY but that trades at less than 5 times its earnings, check out our report about the cheapest AI stock.\nREAD NEXT: $30 Trillion Opportunity: 15 Best Humanoid Robot Stocks to Buy According to Morgan Stanley and Jim Cramer Says NVIDIA ‘Has Become A Wasteland’.\nDisclosure: None. But the fourth quarter and year after mid-term elections has historically been the stock market’s strongest stretch during the four-year presidential cycle.

With polls showing that Democrats could lose control of the US House or the Senate, stocks may get a further lift from another traditionally friendly factor: a divided government that would virtually doom any major legislation that could shake up the economic outlook.

“A split government would be good because nothing would get done, and we’ll get no more uncertainty for the next two years,” said Kim Forrest, chief investment officer at Bokeh Capital Partners. “Businesses can operate when they know what the playing field is, and if Republicans control Congress amid a Democratic president, that will bring US companies some certainty.”

A period of stock-market gains spurred by Washington would be welcomed by investors, who have been battered as the Fed’s most aggressive monetary policy tightening in decades drove the S&P 500 Index to a 21% loss this year.

Source: Comerica Wealth Management, citing data from Strategas Research PartnersSource: Comerica Wealth Management, citing data from Strategas Research Partners

Losing even one chamber of Congress would lessen Democrats’ ability to enact fiscal measures to spur the economy if it slows. But the fourth quarter and year after mid-term elections has historically been the stock market’s strongest stretch during the four-year presidential cycle. With polls showing that Democrats could lose control of the US House or the Senate, stocks may get a further lift from another traditionally friendly factor: a divided government that would virtually doom any major legislation that could shake up the economic outlook.“A split government would be good because nothing would get done, and we’ll get no more uncertainty for the next two years,” said Kim Forrest, chief investment officer at Bokeh Capital Partners. “Businesses can operate when they know what the playing field is, and if Republicans control Congress amid a Democratic president, that will bring US companies some certainty.”A period of stock-market gains spurred by Washington would be welcomed by investors, who have been battered as the Fed’s most aggressive monetary policy tightening in decades drove the S&P 500 Index to a 21% loss this year.Source: Comerica Wealth Management, citing data from Strategas Research PartnersSource: Comerica Wealth Management, citing data from Strategas Research PartnersLosing even one chamber of Congress would lessen Democrats’ ability to enact fiscal measures to spur the economy if it slows. The founder of Ark Investment Management recently purchased 132,213 shares of Tesla. In perfect Wood fashion, this comes after a difficult month for the company. TSLA stock has shed more than 33% of its value over the past six months, despite enacting a successful stock split. While it is trending upward today, it is still down 8% for the month. Yesterday, shares slumped even more after the electric vehicle (EV) leader’s quarterly deliveries fell short of Wall Street expectations. But Wood clearly sees Tesla’s recent losing streak as an opportunity to buy a growth stock on the dip.

Let’s take a closer look at her logic and what it may mean for investors.

What’s Happening With TSLA Stock

Since news broke of Wood’s purchase, TSLA stock has been rising all day. Despite some volatility, it is up 2.9% on Tuesday. According to data from Bloomberg, this investment represents Wood’s first TSLA stock purchase since June 2022. Her flagship ARK Innovation ETF (NYSEARCA:ARKK) purchased 108,380 shares while the tech-focused ARK Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETF (BATS:ARKQ) added 23,833. Tesla remains the top holding for Wood’s flagship fund, with a value of more than $738 million.

Wood began September 2022 by selling TSLA stock. Just a few weeks after, though, she made it clear that she remains highly bullish on it. While speaking to CNBC’s Squawk Box she stated:

We have used Tesla to trade around but it’s our top holding still, and our confidence couldn’t be higher as we see the movement towards electric vehicles accelerates. We are pretty excited about the next five years.

Her holdings may see significant growth before five years have passed, though. InvestorPlace Senior Investment Analyst Luke Lango recently made the case for why he believes some of Wood’s beaten-down tech holdings will “rebound enormously” in 2023. While Lango noted that 2022 has been an extremely difficult year for the type of high-growth tech stocks that Wood favors, he remains steadfast in his prediction that they could double in the coming year. He sees the macroeconomic headwinds that pushed Wood’s stocks down in 2022 shifting in her favor in 2023. As he states:

Inflation was the bane of Cathie Wood stocks in 2021. But inflation rates will dramatically cool in 2022. With the Fed fully on board to slow the economy, housing and rental costs finally falling, and oil prices remaining weak, inflation will keep cooling at an accelerated pace. Accelerating inflation killed Cathie Wood stocks in 2021. Decelerating inflation will boost them in 2023.

What Comes Next

Wood clearly sees the same type of economic landscape emerging from the dust of 2022. Her doubling down on TSLA stock suggests she is on a dip buying spree, as do her other recent investments. Wood’s three biggest purchases of the past week are Rocket Lab (NASDAQ:RKLB), UiPath (NYSE:PATH) and Verve Therapeutics (NASDAQ:VERV), all of which have been rising since but remain in the red for the month.

Clearly Wood sees growth ahead for all three names and likewise for TSLA stock. While the EV leader has taken a blow following its delivery report, it recently turned plenty of heads at AI Day 2022. If the financial landscape does shift as Lango predicts, 2023 could indeed be a breakout year for TSLA stock and Wood’s other beaten-down holdings.

","source":"investorplace","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Cathie Wood Bought the TSLA Stock Dip, Should You?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nCathie Wood Bought the TSLA Stock Dip, Should You?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-10-05 14:24 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Tesla stock has rebounded since its dip yesterday.Part of the reason is likely due to an investment from famed investor Cathie Wood. The market contrarian made her bet after Tesla reported ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"TSLA":"特斯拉"},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2022/10/cathie-wood-just-bought-the-tsla-stock-dip-should-you/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1143143787","content_text":"Tesla stock has rebounded since its dip yesterday.Part of the reason is likely due to an investment from famed investor Cathie Wood. The market contrarian made her bet after Tesla reported disappointing delivery statistics.Cathie Wood is continuing her streak of betting on beaten-down stocks.
