The greenback strengthened against all its G-10 peers, with the euro and the Norwegian krone among the biggest decliners. “A strong U.S. jobs number today should see the U.S. money market rates continue to work their way back to the highs seen in early July. This should support the dollar against the low- yielders of JPY and EUR,” said ING analysts including Chris Turner. Thursday’s release showing a second weekly drop in U.S. jobless claims stoked expectations for strong payrolls data and ignoring the huge ADP payrolls miss. Short-term accounts are carrying short AUD/USD positions into the report, according to FX traders. The Nasdaq and the Dow closed modestly lower.\"It seems like the Fed didn’t rock the boat too much,\" said Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at LPL Financial in Charlotte, North Carolina. \"It didn’t throw that hawkish curve ball we saw six weeks ago and that was a relief to a lot of investors.\"A raft of economic data on Tuesday showed a sharp rebound in retail sales, stronger than expected industrial output, and core import prices reaching an all-time high.\"Today's retail sales number was extremely strong,\" Detrick added. \"It confirms the consumer is still very healthy and that's a good sign for the economy going forward.\"The United States and NATO are still concerned about Russian troops near the Ukrainian border, refuting Russia's claim on Tuesday that it was withdrawing troops and questioning President Vladimir Putin's stated desire to negotiate a diplomatic solution to the crisis.Even so, geopolitical tensions appear to have abated somewhat.\"It might be a 'no news is good news' scenario,\" Detrick said. \"Global markets have calmed as the headline risk continues to decline over last two days.\"The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 54.57 points, or 0.16%, to 34,934.27, the S&P 500 gained 3.94 points, or 0.09%, to 4,475.01 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 15.66 points, or 0.11%, to 14,124.10.Eight of the 11 major S&P 500 sectors posted gains on the day, with energy stocks enjoying the largest percentage gain. Tech and communication services were the only percentage losers, with financials flat on the day.Shares of ViacomCBS tumbled 17.8% after the media conglomerate missed quarterly profit expectations.Short-term rental company Airbnb advanced 3.6% following its better-than-expected first-quarter revenue forecast, driven by a strong rebound in travel demand.Devon Energy Corp gained 4.7% after the oil producer reported fourth-quarter results above Wall Street estimates.Lockheed Martin rose 1.2% after being selected to develop prototype next generation U.S. Marine Corps 5G communications.Cisco Systems Inc gained more than 5% in after-hours trading after the networking equipment maker beat quarterly revenue expectations.Advancing issues outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE by a 1.87-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.07-to-1 ratio favored advancers. The S&P 500 posted 16 new 52-week highs and 7 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 45 new highs and 103 new lows.Volume on U.S. exchanges was 10.26 billion shares, compared with the 12.55 billion average over the last 20 trading days.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":235,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":898271526,"gmtCreate":1628505636265,"gmtModify":1703507216544,"author":{"id":"3581637081460043","authorId":"3581637081460043","name":"CINDYTAN","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/bbbe423bf9070ce2335568f8237e55b3","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581637081460043","authorIdStr":"3581637081460043"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Should go down","listText":"Should go down","text":"Should go down","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/898271526","repostId":"2158448327","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2158448327","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1628502300,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2158448327?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-09 17:45","market":"fut","language":"en","title":"Crude prices extend losses, tumble 4% as virus worries weigh","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2158448327","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"Crude prices fell sharply on Monday, extending losses from late last week partly due to concerns abo","content":"
Crude prices fell sharply on Monday, extending losses from late last week partly due to concerns about the spread of the delta variant of coronavirus. Moderna, Pfizer Inc and GSK Plc are racing to get their RSV vaccines to market first.Pfizer and GSK filed applications for U.S. regulatory approval late last year. Pfizer's RSV vaccine was found to be 66.7% effective against two or more symptoms in late-stage trials. On the other hand, Sanofi and partner AstraZeneca Plc's antibody treatment nirsevimab has gained the European Commission's marketing authorization for the prevention of RSV in newborns and infants. It is currently under review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.Moderna said it intends to submit its vaccine, mRNA-1345, for regulatory approval consideration globally in the first half of 2023.The company's president, Stephen Hoge, told Reuters that its vaccine appears to compare favorably to the experimental Pfizer and GSK shots.\"It's very exciting to see progress in RSV vaccines in older adults, and I think both of those vaccines have shown pretty remarkable results as well,\" Hoge said. \"We really think we're in that top class - 84% is a terrific efficacy number.\"The RSV vaccine market could be worth more than $10 billion globally, half of which would come from the United States, according to Cowen analyst Tyler Van Buren.Moderna's study was conducted in about 37,000 participants aged 60 years and older. The data analysis was performed after 64 participants contracted RSV. The company plans to release the full data at a medical meeting.Hoge said Moderna had started secondary analyses on the vaccine's efficacy against more severe disease and hospitalization. He said it was too early to provide a potential price range for the vaccine it expects to be given annually. The vaccine was generally found to be safe, with the most common side effects including injection-site pain, fatigue and headache. Hoge said there were no concerns of myocarditis, a type of heart inflammation linked to mRNA COVID vaccines.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":378,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9980744633,"gmtCreate":1665831622923,"gmtModify":1676537670439,"author":{"id":"3581637081460043","authorId":"3581637081460043","name":"CINDYTAN","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/bbbe423bf9070ce2335568f8237e55b3","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581637081460043","authorIdStr":"3581637081460043"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Cool] ","listText":"[Cool] ","text":"[Cool]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9980744633","repostId":"2275933408","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2275933408","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1665797405,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2275933408?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-15 09:30","market":"us","language":"en","title":"2 Monster Stocks You'll Want to Buy Now and Hold Forever","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2275933408","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"They're both global leaders in their businesses.","content":"

What's a monster stock? In my book, it's a company that's grown earnings over time and returns for investors. Today, a lot of these players have followed the general market lower. In some cases, they're struggling with current headwinds like higher inflation. But their positive long-term outlook remains intact. That's why you'll want to buy these stocks today, at a discount, and hold on for the long haul.

Two perfect examples are Amazon and Home Depot. They've proved their strengths. And they just so happen to be global leaders in their businesses.

1. Amazon

Amazon stock has climbed more than 125% over the past five years. Annual revenue and net income also have advanced, well into the billions of dollars, during that time period. This is as the company grew its position in two major businesses: e-commerce and cloud computing.

Today, net sales continue to climb at Amazon thanks to its leadership in these areas. But higher costs and supply chain troubles have been weighing on earnings. As a result, operating income and operating cash flow have been on the decline.

The stock price, too, has suffered. It's lost 32% so far this year. And that leaves Amazon trading at less than 3 times sales. That's close to its lowest level in about six years.

Here's why this is a bargain for Amazon. Today's troubles are linked to the overall economy, so they're temporary. At the same time, the company is making progress in handling them. It's controlling certain costs and improving productivity, for example.

Another bright spot is the cloud computing business, Amazon Web Services (AWS). It has continued to grow in spite of today's tough economy. AWS posted double-digit gains in sales and operating income in the second quarter. As for e-commerce, the strength of its Prime subscription service should power earnings growth once the economy improves. As it stands today, Prime members continue to spend more and more on the platform.

All of this makes me optimistic that Amazon can once again deliver more than just packages. It has what it takes to deliver great gains to shareholders over time.

2. Home Depot

When it comes to earnings, Home Depot has defied the general economic gloom. In the second quarter, the world's biggest home improvement retailer reported its highest quarterly sales and earnings ever. The stock price hasn't followed, though. Home Depot shares have lost more than 30% since the beginning of the year.

This leaves the shares trading at about 17 times forward earnings estimates. That's lower than the more than 25 number earlier this year. At the same time, as mentioned above, revenue continues to rise. This is a great entry point for a company that continues to grow in spite of a difficult environment -- and a company with solid prospects.

HD PE ratio (forward). Data by YCharts.

So, why is the stock down today? Some investors are avoiding stocks linked to consumer spending. And Home Depot falls into that category. It's also possible that it eventually will see a slowdown. But as I mentioned above regarding Amazon, any such slowdown is temporary.

Here's why there's more reason to be positive about Home Depot and buy the stock for the long term. First, if the company can do this well during tough times, there's reason to believe it can truly flourish when the economy improves.

Second, Home Depot has offered us some visibility on what's ahead, and it looks positive. The company recently reported its professional customers say their project backlogs remain healthy.

Another positive point is the company's move to improve its digital platform, for professionals and do-it-yourself customers. And that's bearing fruit. In the second quarter, it reported record downloads, sales, and traffic on its mobile app.

Right now, Home Depot shares look dirt cheap. That's considering today's earnings performance and the long-term picture for this market leader.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Monster Stocks You'll Want to Buy Now and Hold Forever
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Monster Stocks You'll Want to Buy Now and Hold Forever\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-10-15 09:30 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
What's a monster stock?
