Likely because of US delisting of some China stocks, and fear of western sanctions against China for perceived inaction against Russia.

Ford, for its part, wants to ensure that the EV gap with Tesla does not widen to the point that it's unbridgeable.

It was these concerns that somewhat motivated their equity investments in Rivian, the manufacturer of electric pickups, vans and SUVs, which presents as one of Tesla's main rivals.

These investments initially paid off. Rivian Automotive’s IPO last November generated an about $12 billion gain for Amazon, for example.

Amazon owned 17.74% of Rivian as of Dec. 31 and Ford owned 11.42%, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Rivian Faces a Lot of Headwinds

But Rivian's horizon has darkened somewhat due to numerous problems related to its production activities.

Like the rest of the auto industry, Rivian has been unable to produce the number of cars that its capacity enables.

The industry points to several factors, but in particular auto-supply chains remain messy. Carmakers have run short of parts, especially the semiconductors that have become integral to vehicles.

Rivian and rivals are also facing rising raw-material prices, which are increasing its costs.

Finally, the upstart vehicle manufacturer is experiencing the classic problems of maturity linked to the rise in production rates. "Our initial deliveries for the R1T and R1S were delayed, and our production ramp is taking longer than originally expected due to a number of reasons," Rivian said early April.

"The cascading impacts of the covid-19 pandemic, and more recently the conflict in the Ukraine, have impacted our business and operations from facility construction to equipment installation to vehicle component supply."

Rivian was founded in 2009 and went public in 2021. From facilities in Normal, Ill., the carmaker produces three vehicles: the R1T electric pickup, the R1S electric SUV, and the RCV electric commercial van.

Rivian plans to open a second production site, east of Atlanta, in 2024. And it plans to manufacture 400,000 vehicles a year, compared with 1,015 units in 2021.

At the beginning of March, the company had said that the Normal factory had capacity to produce 50,000 vehicles in 2022, but due to supply-chain difficulties, Rivian would manufacture only half that number -- 25,000.

Amazon

Rivian Is a Loss-Maker for Amazon and Ford

These operational difficulties are reflected on the stock market, as Rivian shares have slumped 69% this year. The market capitalization at Rivian has shrunk by $63.4 billion, to $28.2 billion, in this four-month period. No surprise, then, that the shares of Amazon and Ford have also been hit.

Another point: Companies in their earnings reports must update the fair values of the securities they hold. These securities are usually valued in terms of market capitalization, by using the values on the last trading day of a quarter.

Rivian shares lost 52% -- more than half -- of their value from Dec. 31 through March 31.

"We reported an overall net loss of $3.8 billion in the first quarter," Brian Olsavsky, Amazon's chief financial officer, told analysts on April 29 during the first-quarter-earnings call.

"While we primarily focus our comments on operating income, I'd point out that this net loss includes a pre-tax valuation loss of $7.6 billion included in nonoperating expense from our common-stock investment in Rivian Automotive."

This impairment contrasts with the fourth quarter of 2021, when Amazon's stake in Rivian gave the e-commerce giant a $12 billion gain.

Ford, for its part, posted a net loss of $3.1 billion from January to March. In the first three months of 2021, the maker of the hugely popular F-150 pickup had posted net income of $2.3 billion.

The veteran carmaker said that its loss stemmed from elements external to its operations.

"A net loss of $3.1 billion was primarily attributable to a mark-to-market loss of $5.4 billion on the company’s investment in Rivian. Adjusted earnings before interest and taxes were $2.3 billion," Ford said.

Ford’s stake in Rivian was valued at $5.1 billion on March 31, down more than half from $10.6 billion at the end of 2021, the company said.

Neither Amazon nor Ford will say whether they intend to reduce their stakes in Rivian. Asked about the matter, Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, declined to comment.

"As we near the, I think, 180-day lockup expiry on your investment in Rivian, how are you thinking about the options available to you in terms of this investment going forward?" J.P Morgan analyst Ryan Brinkman asked Farley during the earnings' call.

"Are you maybe more inclined to retain some or all of the stake given the recent decline in Rivian shares?"

"Unfortunately at this point, we're not going to comment on Rivian," Farley responded.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; And it plans to manufacture 400,000 vehicles a year, compared with 1,015 units in 2021.At the beginning of March, the company had said that the Normal factory had capacity to produce 50,000 vehicles in 2022, but due to supply-chain difficulties, Rivian would manufacture only half that number -- 25,000.AmazonRivian Is a Loss-Maker for Amazon and FordThese operational difficulties are reflected on the stock market, as Rivian shares have slumped 69% this year. The market capitalization at Rivian has shrunk by $63.4 billion, to $28.2 billion, in this four-month period. No surprise, then, that the shares of Amazon and Ford have also been hit.Another point: Companies in their earnings reports must update the fair values of the securities they hold. These securities are usually valued in terms of market capitalization, by using the values on the last trading day of a quarter.Rivian shares lost 52% -- more than half -- of their value from Dec. 31 through March 31.\"We reported an overall net loss of $3.8 billion in the first quarter,\" Brian Olsavsky, Amazon's chief financial officer, told analysts on April 29 during the first-quarter-earnings call.\"While we primarily focus our comments on operating income, I'd point out that this net loss includes a pre-tax valuation loss of $7.6 billion included in nonoperating expense from our common-stock investment in Rivian Automotive.\"This impairment contrasts with the fourth quarter of 2021, when Amazon's stake in Rivian gave the e-commerce giant a $12 billion gain.Ford, for its part, posted a net loss of $3.1 billion from January to March. In the first three months of 2021, the maker of the hugely popular F-150 pickup had posted net income of $2.3 billion. The veteran carmaker said that its loss stemmed from elements external to its operations.\"A net loss of $3.1 billion was primarily attributable to a mark-to-market loss of $5.4 billion on the company’s investment in Rivian. Adjusted earnings before interest and taxes were $2.3 billion,\" Ford said.Ford’s stake in Rivian was valued at $5.1 billion on March 31, down more than half from $10.6 billion at the end of 2021, the company said.Neither Amazon nor Ford will say whether they intend to reduce their stakes in Rivian. Asked about the matter, Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, declined to comment.\"As we near the, I think, 180-day lockup expiry on your investment in Rivian, how are you thinking about the options available to you in terms of this investment going forward?\" J.P Morgan analyst Ryan Brinkman asked Farley during the earnings' call.\"Are you maybe more inclined to retain some or all of the stake given the recent decline in Rivian shares?\"\"Unfortunately at this point, we're not going to comment on Rivian,\" Farley responded.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMZN":1,"RIVN":0.9,"F":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3052,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9063258841,"gmtCreate":1651480125259,"gmtModify":1676534913871,"author":{"id":"4106452164727570","authorId":"4106452164727570","name":"X99","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/4ed5965c3d32c334de5db15d929ebac2","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4106452164727570","idStr":"4106452164727570"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Amazon.com(AMZN)$Opportunity to buy!","listText":"$Amazon.com(AMZN)$Opportunity to buy!","text":"$Amazon.com(AMZN)$Opportunity to buy!","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/dacd5bf134bc2fc100189008cc283fe7","width":"1080","height":"3489"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9063258841","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":4202,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9019791712,"gmtCreate":1648637230384,"gmtModify":1676534368927,"author":{"id":"4106452164727570","authorId":"4106452164727570","name":"X99","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/4ed5965c3d32c334de5db15d929ebac2","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4106452164727570","idStr":"4106452164727570"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$DBS GROUP HOLDINGS LTD(D05.SI)$How high can it go before it goes ex dividend?","listText":"$DBS GROUP HOLDINGS LTD(D05.SI)$How high can it go before it goes ex dividend?","text":"$DBS GROUP HOLDINGS LTD(D05.SI)$How high can it go before it goes ex dividend?","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/22b5b6b3b0c702f9b4e48c1b94daeccf","width":"1080","height":"3396"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9019791712","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2905,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9032079940,"gmtCreate":1647248090663,"gmtModify":1676534207541,"author":{"id":"4106452164727570","authorId":"4106452164727570","name":"X99","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/4ed5965c3d32c334de5db15d929ebac2","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4106452164727570","idStr":"4106452164727570"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Likely because of US delisting of some China stocks, and fear of western sanctions against China for perceived inaction against Russia. It didn't hurt that, with $128.5 million it box office revenue booked over four days, \"The Batman\" easily delivered \"the most successful opening weekend of all the first installments in the Batman series of films\" (according to Quartz.com).And yet, by the evening of the Tuesday after this boffo Batman weekend, AMC's share price had fallen a stunning 17% from the share price it enjoyed on the day before the caped crusader's arrival. So did investors simply not get the memo? Are they making a mistake in not realizing that \"The Batman\" has saved the day, and AMC stock is now a \"buy?\"Not necessarily -- at least not according to Barrington's James Goss. The analyst explained that -- with Batman or without him -- AMC stock remains a pretty \"speculative\" investment, and is no sure thing. In Q4, notes Goss, AMC's revenues approached $1.2 billion, and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization were $159.2 million. CEO Adam Aron is being \"diligent\" about keeping costs in check, \"operating at relatively constrained hours... offering fewer showings [to] limit the impact of labor and supply challenges, while maximizing the utilization of the footprint,\" and \"negotiate[ing] with landlords, vendors and creditors [to free] up liquidity,\" the analyst opined.Aron has refinanced AMC's debt to lower interest payments and give the company some measure of \"additional flexibility.\" And he's succeeded in \"limit[ing] cash burn,\" and even managed to generate some positive operating cash flow in Q4. Combined will well-timed sales of stock to raise cash, Aron has amassed $1.5 billion in cash on the company's balance sheet (alongside, admittedly, nearly $10.8 billion in debt). All these steps, admits Goss, have resulted in \"improved... ability to sustain operations despite the challenging financial markets.\" Nevertheless, the company's financial situation remains tenuous, and the best rating Goss can bring himself to give the stock is Market Perform (i.e. Hold) -- without making any promises on the stock's price target. What might AMC do to turn that \"market perform\" rating into a \"market outperform?\" The analyst notes that the CEO has \"outlined a number of initiatives designed to create a more diverse business model beyond its core theatrical exhibition operations.\" The company might, for example, issue co-branded credit cards to create new revenue streams and bolster customer loyalty to AMC. Or it might create its own cryptocurrency. (AMC has already introduced a series of Non Fungible Tokens for sale). AMC might even sell \"AMC branded popcorn\" in grocery stores \"in packaged or microwavable forms.\" (Don't laugh. Goss says that could actually be \"a substantial business.\")As the analyst muses hopefully, \"there is always a possibility that one or more [of these ideas] may gain traction.\" In the meantime, however, investors should probably expect AMC to keep losing money while it seeks such traction. In Goss's estimation, the earliest AMC might conceivably turn profitable again is... 2025.Looking at the consensus breakdown, the bears have it. Based on 3 Holds and 2 Sells received in the last three months, the word on the Street is that AMC is a Moderate Sell. At $9.83, the average price target suggests shares will be changing hands at ~38% discount a year from now. However, the recent performance of GRAB stock has been less than stellar. So, investors are faced with a billion-dollar question. Is Wall Street wrong in its assessment of Grab Holdings? Before you jump into the trade, you’ll definitely want to consider the company’s fiscal stats. As it turns out, some of the data points look great, while others raise major red flags.A Closer Look at GRAB StockGrab Holdingsmade its debut on the Nasdaq on Dec. 2 after the company reverse-merged with blank-check company Altimeter Growth Corp. The stock started off near $9, and it hit the $17 resistance level twice: once in January 2021, and another time in November of that year. Therefore, that’s a price level to keep an eye on and, potentially, a place to consider taking profits.Yet, GRAB stock might not revisit $17 for a long time. After topping out at $17.15 in November, the stock dove below $4, shaking many shareholders out of the trade.Breaking below the $5 level is significant. Some traders will informally classify a stock that represents a small company and trades for less than $5 per share as a penny stock. Can GRAB stock escape from Penny Stock Land? The answer may depend on the company’s financials, which are a mix of good and not-so-good.An Irrational Response? On March 3, Grab Holdings released its fourth-quarter and full-year 2021fiscal results. As you might expect, this was a high-stakes press release. After the results were disclosed, GRAB stock fell sharply, from more than $5 to less than $4. At first glance, one might be tempted to conclude that this was an irrational response from nervous investors.Notably, Grab Holdings’ full-year 2021 gross merchandise value (GMV) grew 29% year-over-year, reaching $16.1 billion and marking a record year for the company. Not only that, but the company’s full-year 2021 revenue increased 44% year-over-year to $675 million. Plus, in 2021’s fourth quarter, Grab Holdings grew its GMV by 26% year-over-year to $4.5 billion, thereby producing four consecutive record quarters for the company.Furthermore, Grab Holdings’ Q4 2021 average spend per user increased 23% year-over-year to $173. So far, it seems like the company has been firing on all cylinders. Here’s the Bad NewsUnfortunately, Grab Holdings’ financial performance has been far from perfect. Why did investors dump their GRAB stock shares? Perhaps it was because the company reported a 44% year-over-year revenue decline in Q4 2021.In defense of this disappointing result, Grab Holdings cited an increase in consumer incentives for mobility and deliveries. The company also pointed to investments in “driver supply to support strong recovery in mobility demand.”The fourth-quarter revenue decline wasn’t the only problem, though. Turning to the bottom-line results, Grab Holdings’ full-year 2021 earnings loss widened by 30% to $3.555 billion, while the company’s Q4 2021 earnings loss increased 73% to $1.1 billion. It’s understandable if Grab Holdings wants to spend money on consumer incentives and “driver supply.” However, given the company’s lack of profitability, Grab Holdings should consider cutting back its expenditures. The Bottom LineAfter viewing the full picture, including the company’s widening earnings loss, we can see why the GRAB stock price dropped. Is it a good time to pick up some shares at a discount? The most cautious strategy would probably be to wait and see if Grab Holdings plans to cut back on its spending.Unless/until that happens, it’s not a bad idea to stay on the sidelines and keep an eye out for further developments.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GRAB":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1818,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9033229797,"gmtCreate":1646290034957,"gmtModify":1676534113548,"author":{"id":"4106452164727570","authorId":"4106452164727570","name":"X99","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/4ed5965c3d32c334de5db15d929ebac2","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4106452164727570","idStr":"4106452164727570"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"There are other better stocks to buy in this bear market. Plus, the company offers online video games in Latin America and Southeast Asia. Therefore, international tech market investors might consider a position in SE stock.Just as a Bollywood movie is typically rife with action and drama, Sea Limited has provided active traders with constant excitement and thrills. However, not every development has been a positive one.Notably, regulators in India have taken steps to crack down on perceived cybersecurity threats. As we’ll see, Sea Limited and its shareholder may have suffered collateral damage due to India’s regulatory measures.Even as SE stock falls, though, not everyone is pessimistic about Sea Limited. Indeed, there’s at least one well-known investor whose fund bought the dip with a mega-scale share purchase.A Closer Look at SE StockAfter the U.S. equities market bottomed out in March of 2020, many technology stocks rallied hard. Some of them went up too far and too fast and were probably due for a correction. This may have been the case with SE stock, which soared from $38 in March 2020 to $372.70 in October 2021. An almost-900% return on investment might be something to celebrate, but it is also an indication that a retracement is likely imminent. There aren’t any meaningful support levels to speak of here, as the Sea Limited share price just ascended without interruption and then crashed. By late February, the stock was hurtling toward $100.Since SE stock is so volatile, it is important to maintain small position sizes and have an exit strategy. Don’t expect a revisit of $300 in the near future — for the time being, let’s just hope for the carnage to stop.A Magic WandAs I mentioned earlier, Sea Limited is involved in e-commerce websites, as well as video games. Lately, the company’s video-game business has been the focus of regulators in India. To quote InvestorPlace contributor Brian Paradza, Free Fire was Sea Limited’s breakthrough video game and a “magic wand” for the company.Developed by Sea Limited subsidiary Garena, Free Fire is known to be addictive. This game, along with other video-game titles, helped Sea Limited’s Digital Entertainment segment surpass 729 million active users by September 2021.That magic wand was recently broken, however. Reportedly, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has banned Free Fire, along with 53 other apps, not all belonging to Sea Limited. In response to this ban and Free Fire‘s unavailability on certain platforms in India, Garena stated, “We are working to address this situation, and we apologise to our users for any inconvenience.”Wood Buys the DipAs you might expect, the Free Fire ban didn’t help SE stock stay afloat at all. If anything, it probably hastened the stock’s drawdown.Famous investor Cathie Wood doesn’t seem to be deterred by the stock’s decline, however. In a Bollywood-like dramatic turn of events, Wood’s Ark Invest reportedly purchased over 145,000 shares of Sea Limited. I cannot confirm Wood’s reasons for approving such a large share purchase. Still, it is possible that she simply saw an irresistible value proposition in Sea Limited.Prospective investors should understand that video games aren’t Sea Limited’s only revenue source. In fact, the company recorded $4.6 billion in total payment volume in Sea Limited’s mobile-wallet business.Besides, Sea Limited might not actually pose any cybersecurity threat at all. “We comply with Indian laws and regulations, and we do not transfer to or store any data of our Indian users in China,” the company assured. If that is true, then Sea Limited might not continue to be a regulatory target — or at least, that is what Wood and other investors should hope. The Bottom Line on SE StockI’m certainly not suggesting that anyone should buy SE stock just because Ark Invest took a stake. Wood’s involvement is an interesting point to mention, though.More importantly, Sea Limited’s revenue doesn’t solely rely on Free Fire. The company can continue to generate capital with or without that particular game.In the final analysis, don’t count on SE stock to provide another 900% rally anytime soon. Instead, be realistic — and be ready for more drama and excitement from Sea Limited.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SE":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1833,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9033220740,"gmtCreate":1646289780719,"gmtModify":1676534113524,"author":{"id":"4106452164727570","authorId":"4106452164727570","name":"X99","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/4ed5965c3d32c334de5db15d929ebac2","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4106452164727570","idStr":"4106452164727570"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"My first blue chip US stock investment!","listText":"My first blue chip US stock investment!","text":"My first blue chip US stock investment!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9033220740","repostId":"1190725364","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1190725364","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1646287142,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1190725364?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-03-03 13:59","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple Stock: Resilient To Turbulence In 2022","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1190725364","media":"TheStreet","summary":"So far in 2022, Apple stock has done better than the S&P 500, Nasdaq, growth stocks and tech stocks.","content":"

So far in 2022, Apple stock has done better than the S&P 500, Nasdaq, growth stocks and tech stocks. Is the outperformance justified?

The US stock market (SPY) continues to bounce around on the back of macroeconomic and geopolitical turbulence. If high inflation, choked supply chains and rising interest rates were not enough, the Russia-Ukraine conflict escalated fast and has no end in sight.

Meanwhile, Apple stock (AAPL) has been faring better. Even though it is considered a growth and higher-beta stock, investors seem to be finding safety in this stock.

AAPL: an outperformer

The chart below is telling. So far in 2022, AAPL has dipped a modest 8%, as of the writing of this sentence. This is better than the S&P 500’s and the Nasdaq’s (QQQ) 10% and 14% declines during the same period, respectively.

But Apple’s outperformance can not be easily explained by a sector and factor analysis alone. For example, growth stocks (VUG) have shed 15% of their market value in 2022. Meanwhile, tech stock (XLK) prices have sunk 13%. Apple stock has outperformed them all.

Figure 2: AAPL performance vs. S&P 500, Nasdaq, XLK and VUG.

Why so resilient?

In my view, Apple’s resilience in 2022 is a bit counterintuitive, at first glance. Before the start of the war in Eastern Europe, the market’s biggest concern was high inflation leading to rising interest rates. Is the outperformance justified? The US stock market (SPY) continues to bounce around on the back of macroeconomic and geopolitical turbulence. If high inflation, choked supply chains and rising interest rates were not enough, the Russia-Ukraine conflict escalated fast and has no end in sight.Meanwhile, Apple stock (AAPL) has been faring better. Even though it is considered a growth and higher-beta stock, investors seem to be finding safety in this stock.AAPL: an outperformerThe chart below is telling. Apple stock has outperformed them all.Figure 2: AAPL performance vs. S&P 500, Nasdaq, XLK and VUG.Why so resilient? In my view, Apple’s resilience in 2022 is a bit counterintuitive, at first glance. Before the start of the war in Eastern Europe, the market’s biggest concern was high inflation leading to rising interest rates. This setup has been most damaging to growth and richly-valued stocks.Because AAPL trades at the richest 2025 earnings multiple of all FAAMG names, one could have assumed that shares of the Cupertino company would have corrected sharply in Q1. So far, this has not been the case at all.The most likely explanation is Apple’s strong business fundamentals that are unlikely to be hurt by macroeconomic and geopolitical issues — that is, unless something highly disruptive to either happens, including sharp economic growth deceleration. Also, Apple’s business is not very dependent on Russia.I explained recently that less than 1% of the company’s revenues are estimated to come from Vladimir Putin’s country. Although there’s plenty to like for those with a patient outlook, most investors will probably want to keep the powder keg dry for a far superior entry point into SE stock.Sea Limited was one of the more-discussed foreign investments even prior to the novel coronavirus pandemic. But SE stock truly came alive when the coronavirus forced countless numbers of workers into their homes. Thanks to the underlying emphasis on connected services, though, Sea Limited was among the lucky few entities that benefitted from the catastrophe. However, now SE stock is down nearly 45% on a year-to-date (YTD) basis. In turn, investors who missed out on the first ticket to party down are doing some serious thinking. Fundamentally, the underlying narrative hasn’t changed. Instead, what did change were factors outside of Sea’s control, particularly blistering tensions in eastern Europe and the Federal Reserve’s rumored response to soaring consumer inflation.Still, the problem is that SE stock is down 45% YTD. Whether by the underlying company’s own doing or by external factors, a security losing that much market value over a short period is always a cause for concern. While I certainly don’t represent the final word on the discipline of technical analysis, presumably most adherents to the methodology would warn investors away from SE stock at the present juncture. Essentially, the current price action (following a devastating erosion) is too pensive, implying a lack of confidence among bulls to bolster SE stock shares. Therefore, I’m not gung-ho about buying the security at the moment. But should the volatility finally dissipate, investors ought to consider switching sides.Compelling Market Undergirds SE StockOne of the lessons that we all learned about the recent geopolitical flashpoints that contributed to the global market meltdown is the liability of dependency. For instance, the primary reason why President Joe Biden’s administration is concerned about Russia’s possible planned invasion of Ukraine is that it sparks a new world order. As New York Times columnist David Leonhardt wrote recently, “If the world is entering an era in which countries again make decisions based, above all, on what their military power allows them to do, it would be a big change.” In other words, forget laws, principles and treaties: if you’ve got the tanks and other military hardware, you can invade and colonize lesser-equipped nations at will. Therefore, SE stock is one of the most holistic long-term plays available, in my humble opinion. For one thing, Southeast Asia is fertile ideological ground, with the U.S. and western allies having a clear opportunity to turn the region into a counterweight against China’s increasing influence on the world stage.More importantly, Southeast Asia is perhaps the next big thing when it comes to global investing opportunities. According to data compiled by Statista.com, in 2021, “the internet economy size across Southeast Asia was valued at approximately 174 billion U.S. dollars. This was forecasted to increase dramatically by 2025, in which the internet economy in Southeast Asia was expected to reach 363 billion U.S. dollars.”Of course, anyone can make projections. But the beautiful part for SE stock is that the overwhelming consensus calls for the region to command serious growth. As proof, Reuters noted that Southeast Asia’s internet economy could reach $1 trillion by 2030. Providing the impetus for such a forecast is increased embracement of online shopping and food delivery services.Play the Waiting GameDespite the lucrative potential that SE stock features, I’ll repeat the same principle mentioned above; basically, you don’t want to fight the tape. Whether it’s the Russia-Ukraine conflict, inflation, Covid-19 or some other headwind, Wall Street is very concerned about economic viability. Therefore, waiting it out for clarity would likely be the wisest move. How far could shares tumble? I don’t want to sound alarmist but a return back to approximately the $60 level wouldn’t be out of the question if circumstances go awry. With everything going bonkers over the last two years, I’m in no hurry to make drastic moves with my money. But once enough risk has been taken off the table and following a technical stabilization of SE stock, it would be one of my top speculative ideas to consider. Very simply, the forward-looking backdrop is too enticing to ignore.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SE":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1942,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9094486299,"gmtCreate":1645220858242,"gmtModify":1676534009203,"author":{"id":"4106452164727570","authorId":"4106452164727570","name":"X99","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/4ed5965c3d32c334de5db15d929ebac2","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4106452164727570","idStr":"4106452164727570"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"In this sort of market, stocks with negative earnings are punished severely. This definitely does not improve the case for RIVN stock.Buying the dip now is like jumping into the waters of Antarctica without any previous experience in winter swimming. You will get shocked for sure. There are many reasons why I do not like the RIVN stock, and valuation is on top of the list. Let’s dig into some of the other reasons as well.Elon Musk Was Right About RivianA few days after Rivian went public I wrote an article titled “How Elon Musk Got It Right About Rivian and Its Irrational Valuation.”Elon Musk said “high production and breakeven cash flow would be the ‘true test’ for Rivian.”One of the highlights of the article was “When it comes down to it, though, this IPO price and the current price tag both simply flirt with irrationality. There seems to be a complete lack of logic here. Investors are missing what they should be focusing on with RIVN stock.” I concluded, “RIVN stock is synonymous with an epic bubble.”Rivian shares reached a 52-week high of $179.47 in mid-November. Why?I do not know. I cannot find words for this other than speculation is in full force. When you play with fire and danger chances are things may not end up going well.RIVN Stock Catalysts: Irrational Exuberance Meets RealityRivian produced 1,015 vehicles by the end of 2021 missing its goal of 1200 cars. The third quarter 2021 Shareholder Letter is full of valuable insights about performance, expectations, and risks investors should know about.Rivian stated it has 71,000 R1 net preorders in the U.S. and Canada as of December 15, 2021. It intends to invest capital to improve battery technology, electric drive system and expand the production capacity of its Illinois factory from 150,000 to 200,000 vehicles per year. In other words, capital expenditures and total operating expenses are expected to rise significantly over the next quarters. The second manufacturing facility in Georgia is expected to start its construction in the summer of 2022 to develop the next generation of vehicles.Rivian expects production in this facility to start in 2024 with up to 400,000 vehicles annually. This is a dilemma for Rivian management. Should they invest in the future now and risk losing two years of transformation and breakthroughs not just in the EV industry but rather in the broader automotive industry? Or should they focus more on the here and now? There is also the expansion of the service network to be able to offer the highest customer service. This brings me to another point. We do not know yet any problems or complaints that may arise related to quality, range specification and/or endurance. It is too early right now in the lifecycles of Rivian’s models to say for certain and owners have only started to form a community.Expect No Surprises from Rivian’s FundamentalsI expect the trend that was evident in Q3 2021, net loss, free cash flow, to remain negative in the fourth quarter of 2021 and for the full year 2021.There is one statement that I will monitor and, it will be trivial. Rivian in theQ3 Shareholder Letter stated:The funds we have raised throughout 2021 offer us the opportunity to execute on our near-term objectives. We will continue to look for opportunities to pull forward investments to further accelerate our strategy. It is hard to predict if any future stock offerings are in the cards. Though, for now, this is good news. But I personally do not think a potential stock dilution is still out of the question. It is too early to have crucial trends in key financial metrics.Valuation of RIVN StockCompared to Consumer Discretionary sectorRivian has a forward price to sales (P/S) ratio of 864.75, and a forward enterprise value to sales (EV/Sales) ratio of 961.51. The median values for the sector for a Price / Sales (FWD) and EV / Sales (FWD) ratios are 1.09 and 1.32 respectively. There is a huge difference in the sector values. And it is no surprise at all as Rivian is expected to increase production volumes but still trades at irrational levels for almost all major key financial ratios. Investors may look at the Price / Book (FWD) ratio of 2.55 for Rivian which is less than the median value of 3.00 for the sector and find an argument that the stock is a bargain. At the peak of the irrational exuberance, Rivian had a market capitalization higher than Ford Motor Company(NYSE:F) and General Motors Company(NYSE:GM).The Bottom Line on RIVN StockOver the next quarter’s deliveries numbers, margins, free cash flow, will be analyzed and there will be two sides, haters and supporters of Rivian.I am not a supporter and not a hater either. I do not like RIVN stock as it is still an epic bubble. The road to profitability will be too challenging and I see it to be several years away. In the meantime, speculating that Rivian will change the EV industry will persist. The numbers do not support this concept at all.Choose reality based, fundamentals focused investing over myopic investing.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"RIVN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1317,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":9033220740,"gmtCreate":1646289780719,"gmtModify":1676534113524,"author":{"id":"4106452164727570","authorId":"4106452164727570","name":"X99","avatar":"https://static.itradeup.com/news/4ed5965c3d32c334de5db15d929ebac2","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4106452164727570","authorIdStr":"4106452164727570"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"My first blue chip US stock investment!","listText":"My first blue chip US stock investment!","text":"My first blue chip US stock investment!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9033220740","repostId":"1190725364","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1190725364","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1646287142,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1190725364?lang=en_US&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-03-03 13:59","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple Stock: Resilient To Turbulence In 2022","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1190725364","media":"TheStreet","summary":"So far in 2022, Apple stock has done better than the S&P 500, Nasdaq, growth stocks and tech stocks.","content":"
