U.S. Stocks Open Higher; Alibaba Rises 4% on Launch of Qwen3.8-Max AI Model with 2.4 Trillion Parameters

Tiger Newspress08-03 21:31

Stocks rose Monday after President Donald Trump called off planned strikes against Iran, sending oil prices lower, in the first trading day of the new month.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 615 points, or 1.1%. The S&P 500 gained 0.4%, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.2%.

Alibaba officially released its next-generation foundation model Qwen3.8-Max with a total of 2.4 trillion parameters, representing a major upgrade in coding and professional collaboration capabilities. The model ranks in the global first tier on authoritative third-party benchmarks, trailing only Anthropic's Claude series. Qwen3.8-Max's API service has launched on the Qianwen AI platform with competitive pricing at roughly 40% and 24% of comparable models for input and output respectively. Model weights are expected to be open-sourced next week.

Alibaba rose 4% in morning trading.
