U.S. and Iran Agree in Principle to Extend Truce; Trump Hints at Imminent Resolution

Deep News04-15

According to a report by the Associated Press on April 15, mediators are nearing an agreement to extend the temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran and resume negotiations. Sources indicate that both sides have agreed in principle to extend the truce, which is set to expire on April 22, to allow more time for diplomatic efforts. However, the ceasefire's prospects remain uncertain due to the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports and threats from Iran. Key points of contention, including Iran’s nuclear program, the Strait of Hormuz, and wartime compensation, are currently under negotiation as parties seek compromise.

In a televised interview aired on April 15, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that a "final outcome" regarding the conflict with Iran may be reached soon. Speaking to Fox Business Network, Trump remarked, "I think we're doing very well, but the important thing is the final outcome, and it could come very soon." He also emphasized that the U.S. would not reach an agreement with Iran if it intends to pursue nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, an Iranian oil tanker has once again passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Reports from Iran confirmed that the sanctioned tanker ALICIA successfully navigated the strait and the channel between Hormuz Island and Larak Island, both under Iranian supervision. Iranian sources noted that the route remains active as a fee corridor for commercial vessels, with the tanker passing smoothly without encountering obstacles. Two other Iranian vessels have also transited the strait recently.

The U.S. began enforcing a blockade on all vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports at 10:00 AM Eastern Time on April 13 (10:00 PM Beijing time). Despite the restrictions, a report by the UK-based maritime analysis firm Windward on April 14 indicated that some ships continue to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting that maritime traffic has not been entirely halted by the U.S. blockade.
