Meta announced on Monday its intention to acquire the artificial intelligence startup Manus, as the tech giant accelerates the integration of advanced AI across its platforms. Amid intense industry competition, major technology firms like Meta have been ramping up their investments in artificial intelligence through strategic acquisitions and talent recruitment. The financial terms of the deal between Facebook's parent company and Manus were not disclosed.
Headquartered in Singapore, Manus develops general-purpose AI agents that function like digital employees, capable of independently executing tasks such as research and automation with minimal prompting. Meta stated that it will operate and sell Manus's services, integrating them into its consumer and business products, including Meta AI. Earlier this year, Manus launched its own AI agent, claiming its performance surpassed that of OpenAI's agent, DeepResearch.
The company is a subsidiary of Beijing Butterfly Effect Technology Ltd Co and has been promoting its product by completing dozens of tasks for users for free on the platform X.
