Thailand's Tourism Momentum Likely Softening in Near Term -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-20 11:56

0356 GMT - Thailand's tourism momentum appears to be softening in the near term amid rising risks, says RHB Bank's Barnabas Gan in a report. Tourist arrivals fell 4.4% on year from January 1 to March 11. The decline was mainly due to seasonal factors, including the Lunar New Year. Lower tourist arrivals are further weighed by external shocks, including the rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, Gan says. Early indicators showed that tourist arrivals from Europe and Middle East to Thailand declined by around 16%. (amanda.lee@wsj.com)
