"The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as 'THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,'" President Trump wrote on social media today.
Trump said he was reimposing a blockade on Iran, and that the U.S. would charge ships in exchange for guaranteeing safe passage.
Iran quickly responded it wouldn't allow the U.S. to interfere in the management of the waterway.
The dueling comments herald the likelihood of a continued standoff over control of the strait and came as U.S. forces conducted fresh strikes against Iranian targets today, extending this weekend's fighting.
