Tech Down on Chinese Chip Competition Fears

Shares of technology companies fell amid concerns about Chinese competition for memory-chip makers.

A state-backed Chinese company is making immersion deep ultraviolet lithography machines, Bloomberg reported. Shares of Dutch semiconductor-capital firm ASML, a global leader in ultraviolet lithography, fell sharply. Separately, shares of ChangXin Memory Technologies rose more than five-fold on its Shanghai debut.

Nvidia entered talks to provide a roughly $250 billion backstop for OpenAI as part of a massive data-center project in Ohio. Shares of Apple hit an all-time high ahead of its earnings report Thursday.
