President Donald Trump on July 31 accused Senator John Cornyn of changing his position on a compensation fund for what Trump described as victims of government abuse, claiming Cornyn only opposed the fund after Trump endorsed his Republican primary opponent in Texas.
In a post on X, Trump said Cornyn “never had a problem” with the so-called “Fund” until after Trump backed the candidate who “easily won the Nomination for the United States Senate.” Trump asserted the fund would not benefit him but rather “the great American Patriots who were hunted down like dogs” by the Biden administration. He claimed he gave up any payments for himself, “including for the illegal and unprecedented raid on Mar-a-Lago,” his Florida home. Trump said he always felt these victims “should be paid back for what they were forced to endure, their lives have been ruined!”
Trump also called for the immediate approval of Todd Blanche as U.S. Attorney General, calling him “a good man.” The President’s post did not specify the source of funding or provide details of the compensation mechanism. He reiterated that millions of people agree with him, citing his landslide presidential win in which this was a major subject of debate.
