President Donald Trump said on August 1 that if Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis do not approve Todd Blanche as U.S. Attorney General, he will keep Blanche as acting Attorney General and push for the passage of the Anti-Weaponization Bill.
In a post on X, Trump criticized Cornyn and Tillis, both of whom he said were upset because he would not endorse them. “They lost, and quit, respectively!” Trump wrote. He described Blanche, whom he nominated for the top Justice Department post, as “one of the most respected professionals, according to everybody, in the Country.”
Trump threatened to bypass Senate confirmation by keeping Blanche as acting A.G., and vowed to revive the Anti-Weaponization Bill, which he said addresses those “who have been so badly treated by the Crooked Joe Biden (and Obuma!) Administration.” He added, “I get nothing, although I was treated horribly!”
Blanche, a former federal prosecutor and defense attorney, served as Trump’s lead lawyer in his New York criminal cases. Trump called him “a voice of reason” and said the bill would “immediately be back on the table.” The President thanked the public for their attention to the matter.
