Japanese stocks closed lower Wednesday amid fresh attacks in the Middle East, as fresh Middle East attacks lifted oil prices close to $100 a barrel, stoking concerns over energy supplies and inflation ahead of U.S. consumer price data.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 closed down 126.55 points, or 0.2%, at 65,142.78.
Oil prices climbed, with Brent crude hovering near $99.5-$99.7 per barrel following Houthi's attacks on Saudi installations and Iranian strikes on U.S. bases in Jordan.
On the corporate side, Marui Group (TYO:8252) filed for the listing of 50 billion yen zero-coupon convertible bonds due 2031 on the Singapore bourse, according to a filing with the Singapore Exchange on Wednesday.
Also, Yagi Tsusho became the largest shareholder of Japanese apparel maker Sanyo Shokai (TYO:8011) on Aug. 31 with voting rights of 12.88%, up from 11.16%, replacing Asset Value Investors, according to a Wednesday filing with the Japan Exchange.
